While the room was beautiful, VERY clean, bed comfy, great pool, and the location perfect (with the except of a bunch of college students), we struggled with three things: Parking, Staff communication and breakfast delays/not as promised.
The day we were supposed to check in, we never received our room code. Finally called and left a voicemail. Someone did call us back. No staff were onsite to assist us, but thankfully we’re smart adults and can figure things out. The code they give you doesn’t work until your check in time, and it stops working promptly at 11 the day of your check out(although they said it will work throughout the check in and check out day)
Parking is only 3 spots in the courtyard of the hotel. If you do not get there 11-3pm, you most likely won’t get a spot and will need to pay to park close by at a garage.
Breakfast. The one thing I was really looking forward to having. Breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, yogurt parfaits, juices and iced coffees?? SOLD! It said in the booking confirmation email we received, the in room door instructions, and in the lobby that breakfast was 7:00am-10:00am. Fine, worked for us! We came down at 7:15, needing to leave by 8, and no breakfast to be found, except the oatmeal that was always in the lobby. Finally, by 8am, someone showed up with the sandwiches. That’s it. Sandwiches. To say I was devastated is an understatement. Then we finally get a text from them saying breakfast was 8:00-9:30 and said it was their hotel policy. Umm, okay. Change your signage. And also don’t list breakfast items that won’t be there. Please and thank you.
Let’s be honest, we received better staff services, easy parking, and a better breakfast at the Hampton Inn down the road for a quarter of the price to book this hotel.
Will we stay here again? Maybe? It’s not my first priority, and I’d probably look elsewhere for a hotel downtown and find a better price for...
Read moreThis was my second time staying at this property but first time under the new brand “The Nicholas”. I have to say I was impressed how nice this place is and how convenient they made it for their guests to enjoy a relaxing time here. Everything at this bed a breakfast is done with attention to detail. The checkin process was a breeze, the day before your check in you will get an email with your room code and all the info you need for you stay including wifi code and bike passcodes. The rooms are nice, cool, spacious, and have really comfy beds. The rooms do transfer noise so if you’re sensitive you may hear some noise from other rooms but there is a noise ordinance in place for the area from 10pm - 8am and guests are respectful. The common area is available to you any time you need and has a TV, sunscreen, shaving and dental kits if you need them. The pantry area has snacks, fruits, coffee and tea, and in the mornings breakfast sandwiches. I can’t say enough how delicious they were, they get them from a local bakery and they are one of the best quality bacon egg and cheese sandwiches I’ve had! In terms of parking, there is only 3 parking spots on the property so you’re on your own for the most part. We didn’t have a car so this was not an issue for us especially because they have bikes on the property that you can use to stroll around town. We had a wonderful time at Nicholas and will 100% stay here again when we are back in town. I highly recommend this b&b if you are looking for a historical building in downtown Charleston that has a touch of modern elements, has everything you need for a chill trip, and is close to literally everything downtown Charleston...
Read moreSo I can’t actually tell you about the service other than the owners were responsive on Airbnb and breakfast and everything else was provided as expected, we didn’t require anything additional. Everything else though, from the quiet and walkable neighborhood, ample street parking with close spots open at all times, the convenient amenities in the Veranda King Suite (201, 2nd floor), the massive breakfast sandwich and sprawling private room PLUS shared parlor/eat-in kitchen, and outdoor areas, were all exceptional. All of the careful renovations and mindfully (maybe perfectly?) curated decor/furniture were really serving upscale MCM. I already recommended this place to the image-obsessed gays in my life. The mattress was the most comfortable I slept on of 6 different ones that week, and it’s an actual King size bed not a slightly smaller one like most hotels. There is more open space than in a typical hotel room too. The absolute best feature to write home about was the shower. The absolute PERFECT water pressure and a shower head that covered my whole body. This is the best shower I’ve ever used and I have no idea how they got this sort of water pressure and steady water temp in a historic home. Just make sure to bring your own conditioner if you have hair because they have the installed dispensers and it was coming out as thin as water, I don’t think it’s compatible with the dispenser but it’s locked in so I could pour any out. I have hair past my waist so I was thankful to have a spare conditioner in my bag. The conditioner is the only thing they could possibly improve on because the rest...
