Sottile Theatre — Attraction in Charleston

It's a lovely theater, and i want to write a good review, but it's so very badly organized! Quite unpleasant to have to be in a "scrum" to get refreshment. One concession stand with 2 registers is basically it so it's packed so badly that it's useless. Was told there was another upstairs but when we went up was then told there's no alcohol at that one so unless you leave before the intermission starts you can't enjoy a refreshment. Back downstairs, still a mess. Staff apologizes and they don't know why that changed (used to be 2 full concessions) but it certainly makes for a really unpleasant experience and put a big damper on the performance. What a great location with parking both nearby in a garage and on the street. In the heart of downtown just off King Street on the edge of the College of Charleston. The foyer is grand and seating easy to find. The well kept wall and ceiling decor gives the audience something interesting to look at while they wait for the show. The only negative is the downstairs bathroom location. Up and over a small set of stairs and then back down a longer flight of stairs with a turn to it. I felt for the older generation I saw making their way to the lavatories. I'm sure there is an elevator from the main level down to the bathroom level but you still have to go up a set of stairs to the main level. A little...

I attended a preview of Ken Burns' new documentary on the American Revolution, which will air in 6 two-hour episodes beginning on November 16. I sincerely recommend it to everyone. The Sottile Theater at the College of Charleston in SC was an ideal venue for the performance and the panel discussion that followed. Good acoustics and just the right size, enough to accommodate a capacity crowd and yet somehow intimate enough to create the perfect atmosphere to put you right into the film and the conversation that followed.
