This was my second visit to The Nook. As a single Dad bringing my precious Baby Girl with me wherever I go, I tend to try find a place where I won't feel like an inconvenience to the staff. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and with the beautiful Virginia weather I would chosen to be seated outdoors. The slightly over cool breeze would have been too much for my baby. The first visit proved to be extremely worthwhile for me. The staff were very accommodating from the Hostess, Camille to every other person I interacted with. Believe me, when service is awesome like this, the amazing food just tastes that much better.
My first visit, I had the Chesapeake. Benedict on top of a Maryland Crab Patty. This was my first Benedict with this protein selection. It was nothing short of delicious indeed. I finished off with the single JUMBO Pancake, you really only need one unless that's all you're having. Great texture on the Pancake. It had a light crisp on top and allowed for me to do the happy buttering myself. Dipped in a very thick syrup and I was in Pancake heaven. Oh, and the coffee..... My server, for my second cup, asked politely if I didn't mind waiting as a new batch was almost done brewing. This is how it should be done! Set the correct expectations for your customers. I've been to restaurants that just had me waiting for a refill without any information. Kinda makes you feel forgotten.
This last visit( yesterday 3-20-21) was every bit as amazing as the first visit. First off, the hostess remembered us. That's a super plus! The seating accommodation was thought about, instead of just rushing us into the next available table. For today's brunch I had the All The Way Breakfast. Perfectly prepared Sunny side eggs and just a light crisp on the sausages Yesssss. The southwest breakfast potatoes were freaking amazing. Presentation texture and the bottom line FLAVOR were all off the charts. Honestly the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had, seriously. I finished with the Artisan French Toast and I was completely satisfied with that as well. Again, I did the happy buttering myself haha. Fresh coffee and a super friendly staff topped off the awesome experience here. This is Charlottesville, VA original diner since 1951, and with the way things are being run, they'll be around for...
Read moreLocated in downtown Charlottesville this is a historic restuarant. We were seated immediately in a booth......wood no cushions...oh well. The server was nice. We took some time order. She came back 4 times until we were ready. The kids sandwich was huge. Paying an extra $1.25 for fries with the adult sandwiches wasn't. They were syco fries and were just ok. The kids meal is cheaper and comes with fries no extra charge. I had a country fried steak. The corn that came with it was nothing special. The dome of mashed potatoes was barely warm and their was not enough gravy for the meat and potatoes. The steak was very good. They serve breakfast all day if you like. We waited around for drink refills staring at about 5 people that worked there just looking at us silly. Our server had disappeared. By the time we found her we were done with our meal and ready to go. She was gone again after the refills and we waited around to charge our card and leave. We were right next to the kitchen and it was freezing cold. There is seating outside and I think that would have been much nicer. Overall it was a good meal. There was only 1 other person in the restuarant but other then badgering us to order our server wasn't available. Parking is non existent. We drove around for 15 mins contemplating having to walk almost a mile and then lucked out finding a 2 hour parking space. We came back to our car to find 3 other cars parked around us with yellow tickets on their windshield. If our MIA server had made us get a ticket I would have brought it to...
Read moreWe've been here before and had a decent experience. Today, however, was horrible. We thought we'd give it a shot for Father's Day lunch and were pleased when we were quickly seated. It was not particular busy, but we waited and waited for a server to acknowledge us. Finally a waitress came over and said that she would just take our table. We gave her our full order because we didn't want to wait for her to get drinks first. All the drinks came out except my mimosa. I waited and waited and finally caught her eye to ask about it and she was like, "Oh yeah!" and then brought it within a few minutes. Here's where it gets really bad. We waited - I kid you not - for over an hour for a couple sandwiches, a burger and an omelette. Our waitress did not check in on us, did not update us on the status of the order, did not refill our drinks and only came by when we flagged her down. People that came in after us got their food before us. When we had about had it, our food finally came out and two orders were wrong. Instead of a burger, one of us got a chicken sandwich and instead of the pork belly BLT, we got a plain BLT. The waitress did take that off the check and found the burger we were supposed to get, but, by that point, we were beyond frustrated. There is absolutely no excuse to have to wait over an hour for basic diner food in a restaurant that isn't particularly crowded. It will be a long time before we go back to the Nook again. That is, if we ever...
