We stayed at the Westin from July 1st to July 6th. The property is right off of route 27 downtown, so the location is fantastic. Upon arrival we were offered valet parking, which I took as they have a secure underground garage with limited public access.||Check in went very well. The lobby was nicely appointed and the person who checked me in was very friendly. My family booked a corner room with two queen beds. I highly recommend the corner rooms as there a "bumpouts" in the hotel that really make the corner rooms feel extra private.||The beds in the hotel were VERY comfortable. My wife and I have a sleep number bed and prefer significantly different settings, yet both of us found the beds to be really comfortable. There were four elevators, all that provided very fast service and public areas which were well appointed and comfortable. Finally, on the east side of the hotel there is an outdoor patio area with a custom water feature and food/drink service which is a nice touch.||Housekeeping was prompt and did an excellent job during our stay, and I felt the all the staff were really well trained. ||There are destination EV chargers outside the property, which is a huge plus as I am an EV driver. With that being said, they did not appear to be complementary, and there is a Tesla DC fast charger 3 minutes away from the hotel, so I did not opt to use the destination chargers at this property.||So what is the "notable drawback"? The hotel restaurant.||My family has titanium elite status with Marriott, and since there is no executive lounge at this property, we were given vouchers for the restaurant. The first morning, we were told there would be a wait even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Once we were seated, we were greeting and ordered drinks. It took a while for those drinks to arrive, at which time we ordered our meals. On the plus side, the food was excellent. On the minus side, it took a LONG time to come out, and things like drink refills were sporadic at best.||It turns out this would be our BEST experience at the restaurant. On two of the days, the hostess would vanish for long stretches, and the entire restaurant would only have one or two servers, both who seemed very new and not particularly efficient. One of the days, it took around 15 minutes for my wife to get coffee after we were seated. The table next to us wanted to get their check and leave, and it took them 10 or 15 minutes to track someone down. Worse yet, on one of the days, a group of 6 people came to the hostess stand at 940am. Nobody was there. They waited there for 20 minutes until finally shortly after 10am, a hostess emerged only to tell this family that the restaurant closed to 10am and they were too late to be seated. When the family indicated they had been waiting for 20 minutes and had gotten there at 940am, the hostess seemed quite indifferent. Suffice it to say they were much nicer than I would have been in that situation.||The craziest thing about the restaurant experience was that the remainder of the hotel staff was nothing short of spectacular. I have no idea if the restaurant is managed by an offsite company, or if they had just fired a bunch or people, but they were NOT good. The only thing saving the restaurant experience was that the food, when it finally arrived, was very good.||In spite of our atrocious restaurant experience, I highly recommend staying at this property, and simply getting meals off site. Perhaps my experience at the restaurant was unusual? If you can tolerate an off site breakfast, you will find this property does...
Read moreThe communication and organization of Defoor hospitality who manages the Westin events and the manager of the Westin himself are in serious disarray. My wedding was supposed to happen here on 9/14/2024 but they called to inform me 2 weeks prior that there was an error in their system and they had an event that day that wouldn’t be over until 2pm. I had been planning my wedding since November 2023 and the only stressful part was dealing with the Westin. Several people on several different occasions told me I would have access to the ballroom at 8am that Saturday and possibly Friday evening if it was not booked. When the overlap of events occurred they informed me I would not have access until 3pm (my wedding started at 3:30). I pushed back and stated that this was not okay and they told me there was nothing they would do. When I threatened to take my wedding somewhere else they said the best they could do is 2pm (even though I was verbally told 8am for the last 10 months and my contract said 1pm). When I asked them if I would receive my deposit back if I decide to move my wedding, the manager told me yes. However, when I decided to do that I was told I would not receive my deposit back (15k dollars) even though they were violating the contract. I had to hire a lawyer who sent 2 letters to the Westin’s manager before they finally agreed to release me, my room block, and refund my deposit. By this point I had 9 days before my wedding to find a new room block, venue, caterer, and bar as well as inform all my guests and vendors. Throughout the entire planning process they would tell me what I wanted to hear via phone call or in person, but when I would ask about it again they would say they didn’t say that and it’s not written so I have no proof. In my experience they do shady business and were just after my money and cared little about me and my wedding. Thankfully I had the best wedding at a beautiful venue 15 minutes away from downtown and dodged what would’ve likely been a disaster at the Westin. Save yourself the headache and do not plan...
Read moreThe hotel is decent but we had a very uneven experience. I think some of it was unique circumstance. We originally booked a corner 2 queen bed room. The check in process was fast and efficient however when we went to our room we immediately noticed a fair amount of mold build up in the shower so we asked to change to another room of the same type. The bellman hadn’t even put the bags in the room yet so it made it easy to change. The next room we went in appeared to be fine until my daughter open the blinds and we found a wasp behind it. Thinking it was no big deal I removed the wasp from behind the blinds but then noticed 2 more. I looked up in the very top corner and nestled all the way up was a wasp nest. The bellman was still with us unloading our bags so we both snapped pictures of it and we obviously had to move again. This time they put us in one of the suites which we very much appreciated the gesture. The room was quite spacious so that was nice. However, it only had 1 king instead of queens which meant someone was going to have to sleep on the couch. This ended up being me so I pretty much didn’t sleep for a few nights. Also the room was a handicap room so the shower had no door and only a shower curtain that was about 3 feet off of the ground. So you had to shower in the corner or the shower and water would get everywhere in the bath room because there was nothing to stop it from splashing.
The final night we were there the manager who was on duty offered to comp a dinner for my family given all of the changes. Again, we appreciated the gesture as we didn’t ask for that all. That meal took over 2 hours because the service was very slow. I’m pretty sure they had a 13 or 14 top seated at the same time as us so that was likely the reason. This meal actually ended up on my final bill so it wasn’t comped at all. I didn’t have the energy to fight it so I just let it go.
I thought the staff was friendly and they tried to accommodate so that was all...
