I kind of don't want to write this review and tell people how great this place is because I don't want it to be booked up when I need to come back to Chattanooga!
First, I don't understand any of the negative reviews. This place is total gem - it's conveniently located, safe, clean and the most reasonably priced accommodations in the downtown area. This stay was my first at both the hotel and in Chattanooga and I can't wait to come back.
TL;DR Worth the price, clean, safe, convenient, cool outdoor area, easy parking, free coffee and muffins in the lobby every morning and a two-minute walk to the convention center.
Let's start with the coffee ... yes, there is complimentary coffee in the lobby of the hotel. There are also muffins (that are always fresh). Pro tip: make sure you're going to the lobby for your coffee, not the connected Downtowner restaurant. If you want a full breakfast and coffee that is not free, then the restaurant should be your destination.
Rooms are fairly recently renovated (not brand new, but not ancient, either), spotless and spacious. The only thing missing is a microwave (but I didn't need one on this trip, so it wasn't an inconvenience).
If you somehow are worried about your door being open to the outside, don't. I am a woman traveling by myself for a week and had a first floor room with absolutely issues. It's actually really convenient for loading in and out ... park in front of your door and you have way less walking to do with your stuff.
Outside facilities are amazing. There is a cute courtyard and pool (that was cleaned daily). Both are well kept and clean and a huge bonus if you enjoy working from somewhere other than the confines of your room or just want a place to relax on site. Part of the outdoor area is covered, so if the weather isn't exceptional, you can still hang out outside.
There is also plenty of parking and I never once had an issue getting the spot right next to my room. If you have a poolside room (which I did on the first floor), you may have to park a little farther from your car, as the rooms face into the courtyard/pool so you're not able to park directly in front of your room. It's a minor inconvenience for a cool spot. Also, parking is $10/day, but considering you're saving two to three times that per night on the room compared to others in the area, it's not a bad deal.
THE STAFF IS AMAZING. Everyone here has been exceptionally nice and helpful. I called in advance of arriving and asked for a first floor room. Easy peasy and a totally pleasant experience. Also, when I arrived, I needed a few more hangers and it was zero issue and the registration desk staff wasn't bothered to help me. Tiffany, Erica and (I'm so sorry!!) I forget the other person's name who helped navigate me to the whiskey distillery by the river (please ask your staff who this was and let them know how great they are!) were the kind of employees you want to hire and work next to. This place may be a Days Inn/Wyndham property, but the service felt like a much higher end brand. Owners - please keep this staff happy, they're the kind of people you want to engage with your guests!
10/10 would stay again. Thanks for a wonderful week!
My only recommendation for the management: for the next five years, you'll have the IBMA conference in town for a week. Consider making your hotel a jamming spot for attendees - the outdoor areas are perfect for it and the room have enough space to accommodate us. Please extend the non-quiet hours for the week to midnight (or altogether!) and have the bar open starting Tuesday while we're in town (if you have people jamming, you'll have people drinking, it's a guarantee). I've seen other hotels do this and put a disclaimer on the website saying there will be music throughout the hotel late into the night, and basically book at your own risk when people...
Read moreI moved here and had some situations with the home I bought when I moved here. I ended up staying at hotel bo for a bit of a prolonged period of time as a result. There is nothing but positive things to say about my stay. Down below I will break up my review so you can look at what is important to you.
The staff: The hotel staff here are absolutely wonderful. The receptionists are amazing. Erika is friendly and helpful. She goes out of her way to make your stay feel right at home. Her cheery personality is incredible and she is truly an asset to hotel bo. The other two receptionists names Alex, Tiffany, and Ashley are also very friendly and do their jobs very well making things run smoothly. Dale the general manager is also very personable and will do everything in his power to make sure your stay is as good as can be. He is also funny and incredibly friendly. He never makes you feel awkward and he takes great care of the hotel and the staff. He is never above doing things himself if his staff needs time off from what I’ve noticed even helping maintenance at times from what I’ve seen. I also don’t want to miss the two women who work at the downtowner breakfast and bar downstairs. April is friendly and truly gets along with everybody. Jodie who shares the days she wasn’t here is also great and makes you want to come back to the downtowner. There is also security in the weekends and the gentleman who is there never makes you feel uncomfortable.
The environment: The 70s-80s music that plays all day is really pleasant and makes for a fun feeling environment. It starts and ends at a reasonable time of day so it never wakes you up or keeps you awake at night, but nice to just sit in the courtyard and read a book or play in your phone and feels like nice background noise. The hotel is nice and always safe feeling with cameras watching the outside so you can always know the staff will come to help if anything was to happen and that your car and personal belongings are safe as well.
Cleanliness: The rooms are well maintained and the girls who staff the cleaning team do a great job each morning. The beds have no issues, the sinks and bathtub are well maintained. The A/C unit seems well maintained and always blows cool air if that is important to you.
Amenities: There is a gym that is maintained relatively well. The equipment is a bit dated but gets the job done. The pool is heated and great in the summer when you need a dip after a really hot day. It’s always clean and never gross. The WiFi works well and I have been easily able to work here while I have been here since I work from home. The only small complaint is the microwaves are in the main lobby, but the staff is so fun it makes you want to go to the lobby just to say hi sometimes. There is also a small breakfast in the main lobby in the morning with good coffee and muffins usually.
Overall: I haven’t had a single complaint in my entire time of being here and will be coming back many times both to stay and to go to the breakfast and bar here. Hands down my favorite place in Chattanooga so far and I would recommend this place to everybody. I’ve stayed in hotels that are “fancier” or “more stars” but I’ve never had as good of a stay as I’ve had here.
Location: The location is really nice in downtown. It’s only minutes away from a food city if you need anything. There are also tons of different entertainment options in the area, restaurants and bars nearby so you can easily get to whatever it is that you like.
Little side notes: Be aware they don’t take cash in the main lobby when booking or paying for your stay. No longer exists as the office or the city cafe. It is just the...
Read moreI am writing about a deeply troubling experience on May 17.
I initially booked a room for one night (May 16) and, upon arrival, inquired about extending my stay for an additional night. I was first told the hotel was sold out, but shortly after, the front desk agent informed me that something had opened up and I could remain in my current room for the second night. Based on this assurance, I made no alternative plans.
However, when I returned to the hotel around midnight that evening, I was shocked to find that all of my personal belongings—including my luggage—had been removed from the room. They had told the other staff that I had checked out, which was completely false. To make matters worse, I felt like my privacy was violated because all my belongings were left spread out in the room because we were thinking we could return for another night, but the staff person had packed it all up.
This situation caused tremendous stress and inconvenience, especially since I was traveling with my 10-year-old son. We were both exhausted and had no choice but to search for another hotel at 1 a.m. that night.
Given the mishandling of my reservation, the misinformation provided, and the violation of my privacy, I requested a full refund for the night in question by email to the manager, then a phone call today. When I called the manager said his staff would never do that and that I had only paid one night that's why my stuff was removed. Well clearly, that was not communicated well if I had left my stuff spread out in the room! Why would anyone leave their stuff out if they think they have to check out??
They said they would not give a refund, so I said I would then tell my story in a negative review online. He said I was "threatening" him with a negative review if they didn't give me a refund, and that it was recorded and they would pursue legal action. Wow! Who is threatening who? Me and my son had a terrible experience returning from a long day to return to no room and our personal belongings mishandled. And you say I am threatening you??
I'll leave this up for the internet to decide. Just sharing what happened for others...
