Have lived in MCC/The Simpson Organization apartments for about a month, and management has been awful. The office is permanently “closed” due to COVId, and the communication and attitude of current management is terrible. For the short time have lived here, it’s been a nightmare to deal with these folks. The apartments are new and nice, but the management and noise makes it miserable. Here’s why: 1.) Lack of Consideration: Management would not allow movers to carry beds purchased from the 2nd floor to 7th floor. Brittany Grant gave me a time like several days to a week out to use the elevator. I told her I was going to have to sleep on the floor. Finally she agreed to let me move the beds “after hours.” 2.) Lack of Maintenance: Maintenance informed me the reason for the high electric bill may be due to air filter needing to be changed. When asked Brittany and her boss about this, they stated filters are replaced once every four months! 3.) Unsafe Conditions: On every floor there are open unlocked and vacant apartment(s). MCC allows non-tenant visitors to let themselves into the building unaccompanied to access the vacant unlocked apartments. Some tenants have reported seeing lights and noises in the vacant apartments at night. This is extremely unsafe. They justify this due to COVID and say most apartments use this method due to COVID. Hmmm…. 4.) Homeless: The building has a big homeless population out front. It’s not uncommon to find human feces on the sidewalk. Do not go out after dark. One homeless person made it into a tenants apartment. 5.) Parking— MCC does not allow tenants access to the MCC parking lot. Doesn’t make sense, right? The only option is to park in the suntrust building which has small spaces and suvs do not easily fit, it’s full, and can’t open car doors. MCC says they do this on purpose to keep the MCC parking lot mostly empty in case they have an event someday. 6.) The noise from Coopers Alley is horrendous when they have live music. It sounds like the dj is in your living room with an airhorn. The music plays until midnight, and the sound of drunk people is extremely loud most other nights. The entire building complains, resulting in police intervention. 7.) I spoke with Brittany’s manager—Jennifer Mengola on 8-6-21 and her response was: “I’m sorry you’re having a hard day.” Overall, the attitude of the management is rude, awful and displays lack of concern for resident safety. 8.) One Elevator for the whole building—Generally only one elevator is available to the whole building. Sometimes it’s a 10-15 minute wait. MCC says this is because the other one is locked down and out of...
Read moreGreat location, close to anything you may want/need however, several issues I can’t get past.
Parking is a nightmare. Sure, the corporation that owns the apartment building doesn’t run it but, it affects the experience of living here as a whole. Spots are too small, car has been hit twice in my first 3 months living here. Brightbase, parking company, is awful at getting back to anyone and, is expensive. My wife and I pay $85/month for our first spot, and $75/ month for our second spot. I didn’t like the fact that I was informed of the additional costs associated with parking until after my wife and I had been approved for a lease here.
Another thing that is not within the scope of what the apartment complex can control but, still effects my experience, the groups of homeless people that congregate in the immediate vicinity. Of course, most people that gather here go to the bus stop a 100 feet away from the door or so and don’t bother you, but some will hound you for change, or start screaming matches with each other. I do not feel safe letting my wife go out alone at night here.
The final issue that cost a star on my rating is perfectly within the control of Market City. This is not a 2A friendly building/company. Major issue, at least for me. Having an EHCP, I would like to be able to carry with me, God forbid, the unforeseeable happens. Living here, you have two choices, leave your firearms in the parking garage, not a great option or leave them in storage. Going to the shooting range has become a nightmare, having to run to storage to get what I need before being able to go. Nothing in the lease agreement mentions this but, don’t worry, they put the signs up near the ground at the entrances so it’s not conspicuous.
Cooper’s Alley is on one side of the building and Market St the other. Do anything you can to get on the Market St side. The bars’ patrons are loud into the wee hours of the morning some nights and this is not great for me (and my neighbor) since I need to wake up at 4:30 am to get ready for work at 6:00 am. Trying to study for school on a weekend night? Think again.
An otherwise great experience living here might have persuaded me to overlook some things and rate higher but nothing sets this place apart from other similarly priced downtown locations.
Edit: added third star. The maintenance crew is excellent,...
Read moreI've lived at MCC almost 2 years and have no complaints. The Property Management (Coral) has great communication and flexible. Security has gone out of their way to help me with the parking garage when needed. Maintenance is ON IT & actually fixes the root cause of an issue, doesn't it band aid it like other apartments I've lived in. The price is fair for the market especially to live downtown. Parking garage rates did increase but that isn't their fault it's privately owned and was handed over to another management company that charges more. There is smaller part of the garage that MCC exclusively uses and they did not change their rate. When my 12 month lease was up they provided tons of lease options for shorter terms. The grounds are always well cleaned and maintained daily. The cleaning staff is great and friendly. For being in a little rougher corner of downtown, and having Coopers Alley behind us I've never seen strange people be a problem in the lobby or felt unsafe. Everything requires key car access. Great location close to Cadence Coffee and Culture Coffee if you love good coffee. MCC does awesome seasonal and holiday treats and favors. The gift wrapping station during the holidays is LOADED. I've used the lounge and terrace to throw a party and friends love it. Neighbors mind their business and are friendly. There are trash & recycling services for no extra fee. I would recommend to anyone inquiring about living here. I don't really have anything bad to say about...
