Read moreI stayed at the Marriott Marquis from November 14th to November 18th and my experience was beyond unacceptable. As a Titanium Elite member, I have always been loyal to Marriott, but this hotel completely disregarded my loyalty and failed to provide even the most basic standard of service.
First Incident: I checked into room 1203 on Thursday, November 14th, at 11 a.m. Just two hours after unpacking and settling in, another guest attempted to enter my room. When I called out to let them know I was inside, they left. I assumed this was a mistake and expected it to be resolved when they returned to the front desk. However, later that evening, after attending a leadership meeting for work, I returned to find my key card no longer worked.
When I approached the front desk, the staff insisted my room was 1202 (I’ve never stepped foot in 1202)— despite the fact that all my belongings were in 1203, the room I had checked into earlier. After a long and frustrating argument, I was finally given access back to 1203. I raised the issue with a manager, who apologized and offered to move me to a suite. I accepted and was relocated to suite 3913 that evening.
Second Incident: On Friday, after being out all day for work, I returned to my suite in the evening to find my key card didn’t work again. I went to the front desk, and once again, the staff insisted my room was 1202. I had to explain—again—that I had been moved to suite 3913 by the manager, Andrew. Only after mentioning his name did they finally reissue my key.
Third and Final Incident: On Saturday morning, I received an email stating I had been checked out of the hotel—despite my reservation being through Monday, November 18th. I was at work at the time and could not resolve the issue myself. As a result, I had to ask my brother to intervene on my behalf to fix the situation.
A Complete Disregard for Loyalty: As a Titanium Elite member, I was appalled by the lack of care or acknowledgment of my loyalty to Marriott. Not only did this hotel fail to provide a separate check-in for elite members, but they didn’t seem to care at all about my status—or my experience as a guest. Even with my loyalty, I was subjected to repeated mix-ups, arguments with staff, and the constant stress of not knowing if I had a room.
I later learned the hotel claimed there was another guest with the same name as mine, which supposedly caused the confusion. However, the hotel requires ID every time a guest requests a key. Surely, the other guest didn’t share my ID, address, or birthday. This level of negligence is completely unacceptable.
The lack of organization, professionalism, and respect for guests—especially those who have shown significant loyalty to the Marriott brand—is deeply disappointing. I expect much better from Marriott, and this experience has left me questioning my continued loyalty to the brand.
I hope management at the Marriott Marquis takes this feedback seriously and makes drastic improvements to their operations. Until then, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreI hardly ever leave reviews but made an effort to log in and write this one as I was quiet surprised by the issues at this hotel. On first glance, the hotel is gorgeous. Extremely clean, attentive and friendly staff (even if it's an over the top robotic friendliness), great view, and functional and fast elevators (when you stay at as many hotels as I do for large events, having this is a blessing). But, I was extremely disappointed by the areas that the hotel failed. First, the amenities inside the room are... non-existent. You get one tube of lotion and there is a soap dish...for what I'm assuming to be the hand soap that you packed for yourself. And hand soap and a make-up remover wipe at least would have gone a long way. Second, I'm convinced that there are cell jammers at this hotel. I have GoogleFi where my service was immaculate even all the way in Fiji but here, in Chicago, I was constantly getting no service or service drops. No problem! I'll just use the hotel guest Wi-Fi! ...um...err... Ok, I'll just use the hotel public Wi-Fi!...um...err...No problem! I'll just use the hotel conference Wi-Fi! ...um...err...Yea, none of the Wi-Fi options work effectively. All either never connected or were as slow as AOL dial up. It was so unbearably slow, that it has to be on-purpose to ensure that you are not in the public spaces (can't go lounge in the M Club and work because the Wi-Fi is slow. Work inside your room?- well that was the only location where the WiFi was semi-operational but for my laptop only). Third, is the M Club. If you don't really want guests who have earned it to use it, just say so. This is the only club of Marriott I've ever been to where you couldn't at least enter and sit or grab a water 24-7. This club closes before 4pm. And when you are inside the club, there are more cleaning staff than patrons, which is nice because it was very clean, but it's off-putting and a little annoying to have them furiously cleaning all around you. It definitely made me feel like I need to hurry up and leave. Finally, asking for a late checkout accommodation was extremely uncomfortable. As a status member, I always request it in the app when I'll need it. I received a message to call the front desk. When I asked whether late checkout could be accommodated, I was cut off with a flat no before I could even finish my question. I tried to inquire whether that was for status members as well and was also nearly cut off with the reply that the hotel is too full to meet any late checkout request. It's understandable that the 4pm checkout could not be granted, but every other location has at least tried to offer an extra hour or asked me to call back after they checked on some options. In summary, it's a gorgeous facade, but it doesn't feel like they actually want you to stay here... or to enjoy...
