Don't do it. It's as uncomfortable as it is beautiful. I really don't understand what all the good reviews are for. The main complaint I saw was about the staff, but I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and attentive, though there's literally only one person for everything. It's a beautiful old mansion and really cool to look at. It even had a gorgeous garden. Here's why it's great for looks but not for comfort: - It's a 3-floor walk up. Not disabled friendly. No elevators. No ramps. - No thermostat. If you want more heat, you have to plug in a faux fireplace. Or use one of their embarrassingly old extra blankets. - There are no standards like fridge, ice machine, microwave, snacks, beverages, etc. - The keys are literal metal keys that also open the door to the building. And not smoothly. - The furniture is old too. I did not use the wardrobe because it was so old and heavy, it wobbled forward when I opened it and the door was so front-heavy, it felt like it was going to tip over on top of me. The desk was cute, but the lamp had no bulb. - The water has no pressure. In order for the shower to properly function, I had to put it on a narrow pulsing stream. - Bugs. Day 1 millipede. Day 2 yellow jacket. - The worst problem for me was waking up in the middle of the night to the whole place shaking like an earthquake. This happens periodically from God only knows what, and the China cabinet in the hallway rattles with enough noise to wake you up (and I don't wake up easily). I lost a lot of sleep while working a trade show, which was really a huge problem. Visit this place. But don't stay here.

Currently sitting at breakfast, which is cereal, milk, and raisins (we were told ā€œEuropean styleā€ parfaits are made with milk). We are the only two guests, yet the only staff member who is here is nowhere to be found. I’ve had to run around to look for him every moment of this stay (I even had to wait at the door, knocking and ringing the doorbell, for several minutes, before I could even check in), and the other workers around the house just act like we don’t exist. It seems like the house is preparing for a large event, but if caring for two guests would be too much in the process, I figured reservations would not have been available, but that is just my opinion. The house is gorgeous, historic and beautiful. Like other comments say, it’s not the Marriott, so the blinds don’t open, and the TV is small, but its charm is nice, and the location is super convenient! There are so many details tucked away in this place, and it’s so rare to be able to stay in a place like this. If the staff cared more about their current guests, maybe this wouldn’t have been such a sad visit. $400+ for a night here seems kind of ridiculous, if this is the treatment we get.

was to stay here for two nights and booked my room. At no point in booking the room did they tell me that the night I would be arriving there was a Bears Game and the roads to their hotel would be closed. By the time I arrived in the evening ….my uber was unable to get me to the hotel so I had to get out and walk with my luggage for about 3 miles where thousands of game goers were walking in the opposite direction. ||When I checked in I asked about the game and the girl told me she forgot about the game. Yet later in the conversation she divulged that some guests there were staying to attend the game. I then asked if there was any food and she said no but I could order delivery. I asked how if the roads were closed. She said oh yeah that’s right. So now I had to go back and out on foot and walk to find something to eat. ||She asked me about what time I wanted breakfast the next day. I asked why I couldn’t just come down when I was ready. She said that I had to tell the chef what time I wanted food so it would be ready. I said can I call you and let you know whenever I get to my room? She said yes. We walked to my room up the stairs. She made me carry my luggage up the stairs after walking 3 miles to get there and I later found out they had a small elevator for luggage. ||After I got settled in my room I called down to tell her about breakfast. There was no answer. I tried 4 times. I finally went down and learned they don’t staff the place after the last guest checks in so no matter what you need you are SOL because there’s no one to help you. ||Before bed I wanted to take a shower. I ran my water when suddenly I noticed there was not a single towel in my room. I tore the room apart looking all over and there was nothing there. So not only could I not shower before bed. I couldn’t shower in the morning either because they still weren’t staffing the area before I needed to leave. ||Lastly - after the game let out - the game attendees made their way to the street the hotel is on to continue the partying. It was so loud right outside my window I couldn’t sleep. ||After all of this I decided to check out the next day even though I had already prepaid a second night and it’s not refundable. There wasn’t a key drop to be found so I had to leave my key on a desk in the lobby with a note I was checking out which by the way noticed on the same desk was a Manila folder sitting there with my name on it. It was my personal information just out there for anyone to see. ||I expected a call the next day from someone to ask why I left and possibly even an attempt to service recover assuming they care about their reputation or the guests experience. Alas I never got the call. They certainly accepted my money and kept what was not theirs because they gave horrible service the entire stay. ||I would not recommend this site for your visiting needs. There’s Just too many issues here for the amount of money they charge. ||Also in my room the bed was really far from the tv and the tv is...

Last week we slipped away to Chicago for a few days to see a concert. We found the Wheeler Mansion online and thought it looked ever so wonderful and when we arrived were amazed to find that it was even more beautiful than we could've expected. We travel a lot and are tiring of generic high end hotels, the idea of a boutique inn was appealing and since we really love luxury this was the best choice we could've ever made. We arrived early for check in and were greeted by Roseanne, Stephanie and Deb, they were so friendly and knowledgable and we were soon shown to our beautiful room and then off to lunch at a nearby restaurant recommended to us. On the way to our room we noticed that the attention to detail was everywhere, each piece of furniture, drapery, etc. was carefully selected and shone of impeccable taste and quality. The building itself is lovely, the care and attention that went into restoring this grand lady was evident everywhere, the workmanship in the mansion is of such high quality, no corners were cut, the details are stunning. The woodwork, high ceilings and beautiful windows make it feel just like a castle. The mansion is spotlessly clean and fresh, our bed beautiful and comfortable. Refreshments are available at any time and were laid out very beautifully with cloth napkins, china cups and saucers, a great selection of special teas, keurig coffees and lemon water. We were shown around and told if there was anything at all that we needed just to call the number anytime, twenty four hours a day, our every need was looked after, we were made to feel right at home. Our breakfast was absolutely delicious with fresh fruit, granola and yogurt to start, then a hot breakfast to follow, all of the very highest quality. The location of the mansion is great, in a beautiful, safe neighbourhood, close enough to walk to everything with easy access to cabs and the train. I can’t wait to return in the winter to skate on the outdoor rink in the mansion’s backyard and then again in the summer to enjoy the lovely backyard and the Wheeler Mansion Market. This would be a great venue for a wedding, corporate meeting, romantic getaway, pretty much anything. The owner is wonderful and has put her heart and soul into making this special property as fantastic as it possibly could be. The focus on customer service by Deb and her staff make this great house a delightful treat. On a scale of one to ten I’d rate...
