Long time repeat guests of the Waterside. This place is a go-to for our family for many reasons.
For one, they're right on the water...like the name says. Two, their dock is really nice and not everyone has such a set-up. The dock allows guests to crab, fish, and if you are a boater, dock your boat if you attain a boat slip. These perks are fantastic.
Third, the swimming pool is great! It is right beside the water. Closer than any other place that I've seen. More convenient to the rooms than any other that I've seen as well. Very, very nice. The staff keep this pool extremely well taken care of. They work very hard to maintain their facilities and it shows. This is another thing that I have always appreciated very much.
Fourth, my large family has vacationed here for many years and the owners and family have been very kind to us over those years..as they are to all guests. They went out of their way to accommodate my family this week with some unforseen events. They quickly bent to help when others would not have. This care and kindness means alot to me as a repeat customer.
Fifth, just location in general. The Waterside is on Mainstreet, you take a right as soon as you come off the bridge onto the island and before too long, you are there. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and the fair. Very convenient.
Sixth, service. All service is excellent. No matter what you need, it will be taken care of. There is an included breakfast every morning between 7 and 10am and it is really good. Not just cold cereal, but fresh waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, coffee, so on. All very good.
The Waterside crew are very good and dedicated to taking good care of their guests. Rooms are very nice, clean, well appointed, and are cleaned and replenished daily by a friendly and professional housekeeping staff.
There are a lot of reasons we keep going back, these are just a few to help others looking to make some decisions. Also, these are a few I wanted to mention to say thank you for years of great treatment....
Read moreI found this hotel on a recent trip to Chincoteague Island. It was very reasonably priced (off-season) - a great find. Built in 1987, rooms have outdoor entries and still use a metal key for access, but it's clear that the family that owns and operates the business undertakes regular maintenance efforts to keep the hotel fresh and appealing. Rooms are spacious and have private patios/balconies that offer lovely water views. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are large, and rooms are very clean. The only drawback in the room I had was the weird texture of the carpet over a wooden floor that had some warping. The room I had boasted a roomy accessible shower and extra second sink inside the bathing area. A free basic breakfast is included in the price of the room, which is offered at the main office within a tiny eating area. Options include breakfast biscuits or fresh waffles and breakfast meat (like sausage and Canadian bacon.) Fresh coffee, yogurt and little containers of OJ (from concentrate - think "school-tray OJ") are also available. I recommend the waffles. The hotel also has an outdoor pool, jacuzzi, private dock with areas to tie off a boat, and picnic tables/benches that face the water. A workout room is advertised, but I didn't have the opportunity to use it to see how it ranks.) The hotel is near where the "rounded-up" Chincoteague Island wild ponies are housed, Wallops Island and Island Creamery, which is a local must-visit. The hostess/owner was very friendly and spent time providing suggestions for things to do/see off-season, and even provided a map where she hand-drew directions to area attractions. If you are looking for luxury or resort-style amenities, this hotel probably wouldn't be your first choice. But if you are looking for a clean, solid three-star hotel in a beautiful location that is extremely affordable, it's definitely worth checking out - and you're supporting a locally owned and operated business. For the price, I would definitely recommend...
Read moreCharming and perfect for us! On our bucket list was a few days on the Eastern Shore, on Chincoteague Island with a day trip to Tangier, and this was a perfect place for us. It is a beautifully kept up 30 year old inn, family run, on the water with gorgeous views and sunsets! Three stories and an elevator, and there are perfectly manicured rosebushes of many colors with lamp posts in front of the walkways, so pretty. Everything is VERY clean. We had a king sized bed which was soft and very comfy. The rooms have fridge, microwave, and balcony with table and chairs. Besides a small sofa, we had a very comfy velour reclining armchair. Extra towels, and beach-themed toiletries felt wonderful. There is a very clean jacuzzi hot tub and weight lifting room, and a heated outdoor pool. I noticed a guest cooking burgers on a grill by the pool/dock. There is a modest breakfast available (eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal etc) included. Lovely stroll into their tiny downtown is purely delightful, maybe 1/3 mile walk with patriotic flags of local vets from the poles, and a lovely waterfront park with photo-op of giant LOVE Adirondack chairs. We passed a fabulous restaurant and came back there to dine, Bill's. This wonderful Inn reminded us of a gentler time, and we loved it and...
