I’ve never been rushed out the door of a restaurant until Mi Cozumel (Oakley). DINERS BEWARE of the rude and degrading staff, not to mention overpriced menu.
My friend and I were looking forward to a girls night out. This seemed like a fun pick. Keyword: seemed.
We met at 5:15 p.m. on a Saturday to avoid the dinner rush. When we arrived, there were open tables and no wait. They took our orders right away. Drinks and food were brought to our table in no time, although our drinks were not what we had ordered.
Before we took our last bites – the rush to get us out the door began. I was finishing up my meal. Literally – with my fork in my mouth, our server was taking away my plate. My friend asked for a to-go box which was brought out right away.
Then, came the checks. Our sever stood there, expecting immediate payment. Between the two of us – our bills came out to almost $90. The food and drinks were mediocre at best.
We sensed right away that they wanted us gone. I insisted to my friend that we continue our conversation. Especially, based on how much we just paid for our meals. We hadn’t seen each other in weeks and were trying to catch up. It’s not uncommon to do so sharing a meal at a restaurant, right? At that point, we had been there for less than an hour.
Over the next several minutes, more “fun” ensued: I was grazing on chips. Our server came to the table and took them away without asking The manager stopped by and asked us if we needed anything else An employee removed everything from the table Another employee came over and, without asking, bagged by friend’s to-go box
All not so subtle hints for us to leave. Not to mention, we caught our server and other employees constantly throwing dirty glances our way.
Finally, the manager returned and told us he needed our table. Never has this happened to me in my entire life. Never. Rightfully, I was appalled.
In total, we were there just over an hour. We weren’t loud or rambunctious; literally, two friends catching up over dinner. By the way, the large groups surrounding us weren’t being rushed out the door.
My assessment: once they have your money, they want you gone – especially if you’re a smaller party that’s not ordering drink after drink.
I understand that businesses need to make money, but a key part of that involves quality customer service. That’s an area where Mi Cozumel is lacking, greatly. I wasn’t surprised to read similar reviews on here following our experience.
Based on their poor business model, degrading treatment of customers and the overpriced menu – I will never dine at a Mi Cozumel establishment again. The Better Business Bureau also will be hearing about our experience.
For diners expecting to receive what they paid for, do yourself a favor and take your...
Read moreFood was ok. We've eaten here before and it was GREAT, but this evening was disappointing. My steak fajitas came out tasting like they had been cooked with shrimp, it next to shrimp or right after shrimp or something.
Service wasn't what we expected. We only got 1 menu for the table. Then while waiting for my fajitas to be recooked, 3 different times employees tried to take everything from the table and successfully took the chips away which I was still eating since my food had arrived inedible for to the shrimp flavor.
The atmosphere was ok, I heard other music in the background, but mostly all we could hear from our table was a monotonous and unending beat that just kept going. No music, just the beat blaring from I think the hostess booth by the door and drowning out EVERYTHING else.
Also my wife almost ended up on a fight in the ladies room because a very large group of women couldn't keep who my wife later learned was an adult autistic girl from repeatedly looking into her bathroom stall while she was on the toilet! When after the third time my wife spoke up, everyone in that group of women verbally attacked and berated my wife instead of helping to keep that autistic woman from peeping on her!
This wasn't our first trip to Mi Cozumel, so we knew what to expect food, service and atmosphere-wise. It won't be our last trip to Mi Cozumel either. But it was a VERY disappointing visit on a night when we were celebrating a graduation from nursing school. No excuse for the behavior of the women in the bathroom, but that's hardly the fault of Mi Cozumel. However, make sure the shellfish doesn't touch or get cooked on the same surface as the steak. And don't clear or try to clear the table before everyone has gotten to eat...
Read moreService was terrible!!! 5 different waiters kept coming up to us asking if we were ready, if everything’s okay, do we want drinks over and over again all within 20 minutes I ordered my appetizer with our drink when we all decided what we wanted. Drinks took about 15 minutes to come which we didn’t mind because we were catching up with each other trying to enjoy our time. drinks finally came out I ask where my appetizer was waiter caught a attitude rolled his eyes and walked away. We ordered our food moments after i still hadn’t received my Mexican street corn so I finally asked again and he slammed it Down on the table and walked away slowly. As we are waiting for our food a kid the age of 7 walked up to one of my friends and sniffed her and says you smell good then proceeded to walk away . We noticed the manager was talking to the kid and it looks like it could have been his child. We thought that was really weird. We finally get our food and they rushed us to eat everything bringing us boxes when we wasn’t even half way done with our meal. And they all had terrible energy!! They bring us the bill and automatically added gratuity on which didn’t make sense bc we were a party of 4???? I asked the manager why they automatically added that on and he said bc we ordered 137.00 dollars or more when we added it up it was 120 all together separately . This place deserves zero starts the costumer service was terrible food was bland. The drinks were fun but that’s all they have to offer !! This place is very overpriced and rude. So save your money and eat at a AUTHENTIC Mexican...
