Swiss Cottage Inn — Hotel in City of Niagara Falls

Reasons for the 1 star:

1. this is listed as a hotel but it is a motel.
2. on arrival we met Mario's wife at the reception who was adamant that our room needs to be cleaned daily. On a 3 day stay we did not consider it necessary as we just cannot keep everything in order for the housekeeping to do their job as on a holiday we are really pressed for time. Later, Mario agreed that the housekeeping lady won't touch our room.
3. next day when I asked the front desk for telling the housekeeping lady to give us additional polythene bags to place our trash outside the room, Mario's wife told me that it was asking for too much on my part. She is an extremely uncooperative women.
4. on arrival, we almost decided against staying at this motel called Swiss cottage inn because there was no port available in the room to charge our mobiles. But when Mario offered to refund us if we are not satisfied with the joint, as we did not ever stay in a motel before, we thought that the management is reasonable, so we stayed on.
5. then we had to ask Mario to take out the microwave connection and replace it with our multi port surge protector so that we could connect our electronic devices plus night lamp. But imagine if u are not carrying this device then you cannot use any electrical device at all in the room.
6. just before we had to leave for the jet boat ride, the commode started malfunctioning and there was water running full force after flushing. So we told July, the cleaning lady to inform Mario so that he can put it right. The wash basin is so tiny and when u on the taps flow with so much force that all of it spills on u enough to get u wet. Also, the shower is very small, worst part is the toilet has no exhaust so either u keep the toilet door open to let ac remove the odor and let the other person in the bedroom suffer or u shut the bathroom door and choke on the smell.
7. we didn't know that motels do not have a dead bolt, to ensure that when u are sleeping at night someone does not use a spare key enter ur room. Also it's no guarantee that if u put one of their heavy chairs on the door that no one can enter as through the window ac u can easily let in some sleeping gas u will be non conscious when there is any intrusion at night.
8. all porch lights are switched off after 1.00am The whole motel complex is pitch dark, office closes at 11.00, there is no phone in the room or an emergency number that u can call at odd hours to fix a problem and u would be be scared to step out in that darkness. Very scary I would say.
9. Mario protested that for the rate they charge, the facilities are matching and if not satisfactory we are welcome to move into a costly hotel. But for 3 days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for 2 people we paid $365 in July end and that is hotel rates. Again misleading!!!
10. more over please don't visit the Chinese joint whose pamphlet is in the office as we bought dinner there and took it to the room to heat it in the microwave and believe me they make the worst Chinese food ever, had to throw all, was saved by the fries and onion rings and chicken legs that we had purchased in Altoona Sheetz super outlet and gas station.

I don't normally give a 5 unless the facility provides breakfast but with this one i made an exception.||||Wow...what a hidden little gem in the mist of "high priced" chain offerings that isn't next to the falls but close (very short drive to the falls).||||If you're in the area and want a place to stay that offers you a great value for your hard earned and/or saved retirement money, this is a winner.||||When I first got to it, I could tell it was well maintained but I still didn't know what to expect until the owners (nice couple sitting outside office door) welcomed me with a very sincere and caring smile. The wife went over basic items and showed me the room location.||||I really like staying in places that give me that historic "Route 66" feel (maybe brings out the kid in me) and this place really had it down to the tee.||||The really neat thing is that the room and facility were well maintained and up-to-date looking (guess that's just a reflection of the pride of the owners...good hard working people).||||If you're like me and appreciate getting a really nice room for your money, this is a great choice.||||Room: clean-nice-well maintained - WiFi: strong signal-fast - TV/Channel Selection: good size and complete selection - Bathroom: clean-well maintained - Price: Great||||I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends and relatives that plan to go to the falls area.||||Get a great room at a great price that is also close to all modern/popular stores and restaurants you're used to and use the money you save on fun stuff...

The room was unsanitary. There was hair in the bathroom and on the bed. The bathroom obviously had not been cleaned as evidenced by the various remnants of a previous guest. My wife attempted to wipe it down. There was dirt in the dresser drawer that my wife also cleaned up. There was a pink/red stain on the white sheet on the bed. Rude Customer Service: When I addressed the issue with the night manager, she tried to escalate an argument. I never had a chance to tell her that the toilet was not secured to the floor. It moved when I sat on it. I took my family to another hotel that night. Before leaving, I tried to explain to the night manager that I will pay for the night, but I should not have to pay for the second night. The issue was not resolved. Since I booked the room through Hotel Planner, I had to submit my issue with them, which I did the following morning, which was Saturday. I was then informed that I had to wait until Monday afternoon for the daytime manager to settle this issue. On Monday afternoon, the daytime manager was unavailable. Hotel Planner continues to be an advocate on my behalf. Bottom Line: I feel like the people who run Swiss Cottage Inn are unprofessional.
