Ask a black woman, I had to state I was there to check in in order to gain entry. Not more than five minutes later, while I was still at the front desk checking in, a white woman arrived and the same receptionist looked up and buzzed her in without asking any questions.
The white woman had her suitcase and stated AFTER entering, she was there to check in.
I understand security regulations and have no problem complying. However, my expectation is that the rules will be applied to everyone fairly.
In addition, later that night, we stopped by the small convenience store to purchase a few items for the room. At the time, there was no one at the front desk, but there was a woman cleaning the store area. After we had picked up our items we turned around and the woman who was cleaning had started walking away. So we headed to the front desk to pay at which point the same receptionist from earlier came sprinting out yelling "I'll ring you up for that."
Based on our previous interaction with her, it felt as if she was accusing us of trying to get away without paying, which was not the case.
When we asked for a receipt (and who wouldn't based on the previous interactions), the receptionist huffed "I can only print out a version from the ledger."
We replied, "No problem."
Then she said, "Yeah, but it won't be itemized to even show what you purchased."
We said it didn't matter, we still wanted a receipt. This was specifically because of the receptionist's previous interactions with us. We did not want to leave without proof we had paid.
The receptionist sighed loudly and made a big deal of printing the ledger and taking a permanent marker to cross out all of the previous transactions listed while proclaiming, "I have to black out other guests' information for their privacy."
Hmmm.
The entire interaction with the front desk receptionist made me feel sad and uncomfortable. Despite the lovely location and excellent facilities, I would not recommend this hotel to any people of color nor any white people with...
Read moreWe would come back. They met our expectations.
BREAKFAST: It was very good for what it was! I never eat hotel eggs but everything else was good. I found it strange that I couldn't find whole milk. They had oat milk, which is fancy but I wanted so fattening whole milk with my raisin bran haha.
PARKING: We didn't take advantage of their parking since we took a Lyft to/from the hotel, but they offer underground parking to protect your vehicle from the elements. There is a height restriction so be mindful of that.
LOCATION: This area IS prone to homeless folks wandering around. At one point, a man with a very strong odor and extremely dirty clothes was loitering in the lobby. The staff was handling it well, but just something to be mindful of in case homeless people bother you. It didn't affect us as we've lived in dense, heart of downtown areas before. Others, it may be an issue.
ROOM: The room was as advertised. I absolutely HATED their pillows. They were god awful and I slept horribly. BUT!!! I'm extremely picky with pillows and I usually bring my own. It just wasn't possible this trip. The shower doesn't get as hot as I'd like but the water pressure could strip paint off a wall. I say that as a GOOD thing. It was almost like a shower massage. 10/10 highly recommend their shower.
CLEANLINESS: Very clean hotel, zero complaints and we felt like they cared for the sanitation and appearance of the property.
STAFF: Absolutely lovely start to finish. I wish I knew the name of the gentlemen that checked us in because he was so kind and nice. I feel like he was a manager of sorts based on his clothing. He deserves a guest mention but I just don't recall his name. Tall, slim, dark-ish hair. Working the afternoon/early evening of October 19th, 2022 and I believe the next morning when we checked out. If someone sees this, let him know he was fantastic!
I attempted to chat with the staff through the mobile app but nobody ever responded. That was disappointing but not...
