DO NOT STAY HERE — Unsafe, hostile, and deeply unprofessional.
I had to call the police during my stay at Modern Motel in Colorado Springs due to an extremely threatening and unsafe incident involving the motel’s staff.
I booked my stay in person and was told that late checkout until 1:00 PM would cost an additional $20. I confirmed this with the front desk and found the same policy clearly listed on their website (I have a screenshot as proof).
The next morning—before 10:50 AM—three men aggressively pounded on my door claiming to be “maintenance,” yet none of them had tools or equipment. I was alone and undressed, and told them I didn’t need maintenance. One man said he “couldn’t hear me” and told me to open the door. When I said I wasn’t dressed and repeated I didn’t need assistance, he responded, “I’ll be opening that door in 8 minutes either way.”
This was well before the checkout time I had paid for. Understandably, this was both suspicious and alarming. Why were there three men? Why no tools? Why were they threatening to enter my room before my confirmed checkout time?
I quickly threw on sweats, opened the door, and explained that I had arranged a 1 PM checkout. They ignored me. Moments later, a fourth man—either the manager or owner—arrived and immediately began yelling at me to “get out.” When I tried to show him his own website confirming the 1 PM checkout policy, he shouted, “I don’t care.”
When I began filming the encounter (as a safety precaution), he escalated further. I retreated into my room, and he physically blocked the doorway, refusing to allow me to shut the door and get dressed. I told him this was harassment and that I would call the police if he didn’t allow me privacy to change and pack. He refused and insisted I could “get dressed right there” with all four men watching.
I called 911. When I described the man’s appearance, he became enraged. While I was actively on the phone with the police, he stepped fully into my room, yelling: “You better get out before you get a surprise you won’t like.”
Let me be clear: I was a young woman alone, being threatened with violence, trapped in my room, and denied basic privacy by four men, including the manager.
This was terrifying, violating, and completely unacceptable.
I was harassed, intimidated, and treated with outright hostility despite having proof I was acting within the hotel’s stated policies. At no point did anyone take responsibility or deescalate the situation—instead, it worsened as soon as I advocated for myself.
If you are a woman—especially traveling alone—do not stay here. This motel is not safe. The staff’s behavior was aggressive, inappropriate, and dangerous. I have filed formal complaints with the management group, the booking platform, and state consumer protection authorities.
Please protect yourself and stay somewhere else.

Read moreManagers at the front desk were very nice and friendly. You can get the wrong perception of the outside part because it is clean outside. But as you open the door to the room you are hit with the smell of cigarette smoke and musky smell. Then as you walk in you notice the carpet which looks like it hasn't been clean for a long time. Which if cleaned I'm sure that smell would go away. The bed was a king size because the room smelled it gave you impression that the bedding was dirty. I do have to admit it I was actually afraid to sleep on bed. Because I wasn't sure if linen was clean or not. But linen was fresh and clean so were pillowcases as for comforter it did looked dirty and made me uneasy. The little things that we looked for they didn't have such as an iron, blow dryer, coffeepot. Those are what we look for when we go into a motel or hotel. They did have a microwave but it was outdated and had a hole in the front. I thought that could be dangerous if anyone would use it. The sink in that area had a small drip. The bathroom was nice but the toilet when you sat on it tilted. The towels didn't match and well used I got the impression that maybe they get families that stay there a period of time. There bar of soaps in a packet were dirty that I just waited when I got home to take a shower.
My suggestion if this is a place that houses families for a long period of time. Then maybe then need to address that on their website. Also address that do not have the little things such as an iron, hairdryer etc. One thing that I thought was upsetting was they told us about people stealing their TV's. Next morning they checked our room to see if we didn't steal one.
Would we stay at this...
