I seem to have a much different opinion than previous posters when it comes to White Pie. I haven't posted a review for a long time, but my recent visit to White Pie left a bad taste in my mouth.
Since I live near downtown COS I often drive by and notice the outside seating and fire pits and think, "Wow, that would be a great spot for a date night." I quickly came to learn that the outside seating was the only great thing about White Pie.
Besides grossly overpriced menu items and skimpy portions, the service was nothing less than incompetent.
My server started out by informing me that I could only eat outside because they were hosting a 'Private party' for a group in which the entire inside seating of the restaurant was off limits. Mind you, this was a Friday afternoon.. It seemed that White pie didn't, or doesn't have the capacity, or the servers to accommodate private parties in addition to it's normal Friday lunch rush. My server brought me a container with water but no cup. I ordered a $4 (mostly ice) lemonade which I had to remind my server to get 5, yes - FIVE TIMES! At which time I finally got the cup for the water. My almost $20 salad portion wasn't enough to satisfy a small rodent/scavenger. If this is what other reviewers have reviewed to as 'trendy', then I'm way behind the times, because I expect to get what I pay for, and White pie didn't make the cut when it came to satisfying this customer.
My food and drink took so long to receive that I ended up having to get it to go. When I reached my destination and was finally able to eat, I opened my 'to go' containers and was horrified at what I saw!
I had ordered 2 lemonades $4 ea, Beef Carpaccio $19 (I wouldn't have paid $5 for it if I'd seen it beforehand ) Giadiniera Medley $3.50, and the Ava Angelini $18.
I'm posting pics of the items I received as well as screenshots from White Pie's website menu for comparison.
The biggest disappointment though was the Beef Carpaccio at $19. This salad barely covered the bottom of the to go container and included sparse pieces of arugula and very minimal paper thin slices of beef. The salad was short a couple ingredients short, including the olives and cheese. The pizza had 3 slices of prosciutto leaving half the pie meatless and uneaten.
I will say that there was a bonus in my bag, a menu item I had not ordered, Burrata. It was a huge chunk of mozerrella that was just a greasy blob in the midst of a few tiny tomatoes, it was ugly, unappetizing and uneaten.
Growing up my father was a chef in 5 star (uppity) restaurants both in the Bay Area/ San Francisco and also in Seattle - I KNOW and was taught the difference between high priced food and high class cuisine. Clearing a reported and approximate $30k/week, I would expect White pies food and service to be of a higher standard standard - Personally I feel like I was ripped off and have had better food and service at the hole in the wall burger joint on Wahsatch near Cimarron. The best thing about this place was the...
Read moreWhite Pie has been the rave recently around Colorado Springs. Went there today to see what everyone was talking about. The atmosphere was very chill, with indoor and outdoor seating. There were a lot of windows, which made for a pleasant lighting. For appetizers, we ordered the Burrata and the Beef Carpaccio. The wait time was very minimal, which was nice and expected. Upon trying the Burrata and Carpaccio, the presentation on both plates were aesthetically pleasing. The flavor, however, was less so. The Burrata was underseasoned and the flavor of the entire dish was bland. There was a hint of honey, some more would have made a big difference. Also, this dish normally includes an acidic flavor, such as a balsamic vinegar, which this did not. The Crostinis were very stale. As for the Carpaccio, it was beautifully, thinly sliced. However, this was also an underseasoned dish. There was parsley as a garnish for the Carpaccio. Of all garnishes to choose from, parsley should not have been first choice (for both flavor and presentation reasons). After finishing the appetizers, we ordered the White Pizza and the Three Meat Pizza. The pizzas were very nicely presented. Again, the flavor was mediocre. Has anyone ever tried Mod Pizza? White Pie's pizza is very comparable, if not almost exactly the same, as Mod Pizza. This is to say that it was a very ordinary pizza and did not stand out in any extraordinary way. Overall, this place is as what I thought it would be: a pizzeria. Nothing more and nothing less. Unfortunately, the pricing on each item was ridiculously expensive, especially for a pizza place. Had their flavors been exceptional, it would have made it worth the price. Yet, if you want a pizza, then you could go to at least three other pizzerias for a cheaper price, and still tasting...

The pizza was good..
Our negative experience is due completely to the fact that they have a forced gratuity and no way to split the bill?!?! What kind of establishment with a modern point-of-sale system can't split a bill?! Half of our group are servers at different restaurants in the Springs and we were absolutely floored they don't have that ability.. BUT WAIT.. we were told we can just figure out our cost and pay accordingly, or split it 50/50, or 3 ways etc etc.... We decided to do the math and pay our separate portions due... You'd think that'd be easy RIGHT?... NO!... We said we would pay $60 for our portion on the bill... The wait staff brought us back our credit slip and after we added our gratuity, we noticed that in all actuality, they only paid $51.32 to the tab and there was a forced gratuity from the restaurant of $8.68... so after everyone else paid their portion, the staff came back and said there was still $136 left on the bill to be paid.. WAIT, WHAT??!! We all had to redo our credit slips and because the management there never said a word about the mandatory gratuity being added to the bill, we basically rescinded what we would have added... SADLY, because of the establishments negligence and lack of communication on how this would all work, the wait staff received MUCH less of a gratuity than they could have made from us had they not hidden the fees at the end, as well as not complicated paying the bill...
Needless to say, our chatty group of servers will be sure to spread the word at our workplaces and to others who might consider eating here and advise those people how poor our experience was...
