My wife, daughter and I were visiting the area for a volleyball tournament. We checked in around 10:45 PM. The lobby was filled with very loud music and partying. It was explained that there was a reserved party which would cease at 11:00 PM.
The noise was not the relaxing welcome which was my experience when entering IHG properties. In addition, I was not greeted with the typical "IGH Rewards Welcome". It was also apparent that my room was not reserved correctly, and I was asked if I had reserved a single King Room. After a few minutes, we were given the room key. My daughter's first response from the general appearance of the lobby, elevator and hallway was that it was dirty. She actually compared it to the IHG in Dublin and wished we had stayed there again instead.
Shortly after entering the room, my daughter drew here sheets, and noticed that they were stained. My wife and I looked over our bed and discovered that our sheets were stained too. We attempted to call down to the front desk, but our phone didn't work. My wife went down to the desk, reported that the phone didn't work and brought back additional bedding, which we used to change the sheets. We also noticed the carpet had some unsightly stains too.
After the stained sheets were discovered, I walked to the desk chair and almost sat down. I stopped myself because it seemed too wobbly as I rolled it away from the desk. I turned it over and found two to three screws missing. I rolled it back under the desk and warned my wife and daughter to avoid it during the stay.
As my wife was downstairs gathering clean bedding, my daughter went into the bathroom to wash and shower. She noticed the sink faucet leaked. What she didn't notice was the leak had already soaked my shaving kit, bathroom plastic cup and any towels which were on the counter.
Shortly after her shower, we decided to call it a night, which in itself became very frustrating. There was constant noise coming from the room above us. Around 11:30 PM, I got dressed, put my shoes on and headed to the front desk with the broken phone. I handed the broken phone to the employee and reported the noise from the room above 219. I returned to my room and tried to fall asleep. Around 12:00 AM, I picked up my cell phone and called the hotel. I talked to the attendant and reported the noise again, at which time, I was told that security was headed to the room. The pounding and loud talking subsided enough for us to then hear the neighbors from the room next to us. They too were talking very loudly. At this point, it didn't really matter. We were just trying to make it through the night. By 2:00 AM or so, the hotel seemed to quiet down, as this was the last time I recalled looking at the clock.
In the morning, my wife went into the bathroom and discovered that there was a burned-out light bulb in the fixture, making her morning makeup routine a difficult one. She then noticed the tissues were wet. Evidently, the leaky faucet saturated the box enough and the absorbed through the entire box. Since the phone didn't work, she used her cell and called the front-desk. The desk informed her that there was no one available who could run a new box to the room. At 6:00 AM, I woke up, got dressed and went to the front desk for a new box of tissues.
Then came more fun. My wife and daughter both learned that there was only one mirror in the room, and that mirror was in the bathroom. I cannot recall any other IHG property, or hotel for that matter, that did not have a full-length mirror, or a second mirror in the room. Needless to say, sharing a mirror after a late check-in, loud neighbors, a poor night sleep and a dirty room was tumultuous to say the least.
I was so frustrated during this brief stay. I am debating whether I will continue my relationship with IHG Hotel Properties through the Rewards program. It is unfortunate that this hotel is permitted to conduct business as an IHG Property at a sub-standard level. It is also difficult for me to believe that this was the first poor review submitted for...
Read moreOn November 26, 2022, I checked into the Holiday Inn in Columbus, Ohio. I had already reserved a room through Priceline and paid $130 through them. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told that they could not find my reservation. I presented the reservation number to them, and the clerk went in the back room to look for something. After about 20 minutes, she returned and checked me in. I checked out on November 27, 2022 and got a receipt, I assumed for for my stay. The next day, I noticed I was billed an additional $128.84 for the same room. I called the hotel to ask what the problem was, and they told me because I paid through a third party, there was some confusion with my card and presented me with a VISA card that I don't own. I was assured I would be refunded my money, and the manager proceeds to send me a receipt for $113.69, which is not what they took, so I have no idea where this amount came from. I waited a week and my money was never refunded. I filed a dispute through my bank and got the charges temporarily reversed. After 10 days, I get a letter from my bank saying they are taking the money from me because they cannot prove the Holiday Inn owes me and to contact them. On December 15, 2022, I contacted the Corporate office of IHG and they told me the manager would contact me because they would leave him a message to do so (I also called the manager and left a message on his voicemail). The manager called my cell phone on December 16th, and told me that the money was refunded to this virtual VISA card that doesn't exist. I told him that was not possible, and how was the money removed from my account but can't be refunded? He told me he had to do some research and would call me later in the day. I have not received a phone call yet. I have been dealing with this issue since November 27th, and have not gotten...
Read moreTraveling on a tight budget? I feel obligated to warn other travelers of a "glitch" that led to a total rearranging of my plans for my very short stay to see an ailing family member.
Rooms and in room amenities are pretty decent at this Holiday Inn express. But even before the payment "glitch" the shuttle that is listed as running until 12am was not actually not doing so when my 9:30pm weekday flight arrived. I didn't know until after I called the hotel asking when they sent those and then they ordered a Lyft instead. That was already my second call and I had told reception on the first one I'd be arriving ASAP on their shuttle. They didn't mention it was out of service on my first call and I had entered my late arrival in the reservation instructions. I booked directly with Holiday Inn itself so not sure why that was missed.
However, the payment "glitch" that led to this negative review was them giving me a double charge. The $103 rate, plus 100 dollar room deposit was charged to my card twice. It did not happen at the same time, by the way. I noticed the room had been charged before my check-in, which is why I called as soon as my plane landed. When I checked in at the property, reception ran my card again. I actually questioned that because I said it was already charged. He said it wouldn't charge me anything. But he needed to run it as part of the check in. After this, I now had two pending charges resulting in $406 dollars being held for Holiday Inn. My bank could do nothing, and the money I had held to rent my car and travel was suddenly wiped out. Everyone was sorry but that didn't help me and in the end, I had to readjust my itinerary, to put it succinctly.
Their pending charges made on Wednesday dropped on Saturday.
I hope this review can save another...
