I have never taken the time to leave a review anywhere in my life but this occasion is deemed necessary. We had dinner reservations at 7:30pm on Valentine’s Day and I went to shower in my room and there no hot water around 6pm. I called the front desk and the lady told me she needed to check the water situation and she would get back me ASAP. I went down there about 20 minutes later and she was still looking for the keys to even get into the place where she would need to check. After sitting there for another 10 minute while she fidgeted around in the drawers, she switched my room to the one next door. Upon switching rooms, the first thing I checked was for hot water and I still wasn’t getting hot water. I didn’t move anything over to my new room yet and I called the front desk multiple times and finally received a call back. At this point I had to cancel my dinner reservations on Valentine’s Day because I had not showered all day. The lady at the front desk eventually came up followed by what I believed to be a maintenance worker. They ran the shower through for awhile and double checked everything that I had already told them about then walked out of the room without addressing me about what to do next. The maintenance worker came back about 15 minutes later telling me to move to another room and they double checked to make sure there was hot water. I was very compliant this entire time being I understand things happen and I was just trying to enjoy my now ruined Valentine’s Day plans. We got into the room around 7:15ish and there was a slight issue with the fire alarm. It was beeping every 10 seconds or so for long period of times. I did not want to go through the trouble of have to switch to ANOTHER room again so I chose to ignore the issue until I was tossing and turning all night without getting any sleep. It worsened so I got up around 4am to see if they could get somebody to come fix it. I get down there and I was told that there was nobody to come fix it at the moment and to just take it out of the wall???? Not only is that a fire hazard but there was absolutely no way to do that. She proceeded to tell me her manager would be there at 7am and maybe she could “refund me or something” due to inconveniences. I went down there at 8:30am to talk about my inconveniences and was told that “unfortunately these types of things happen” she was apologetic and said she would send somebody up to fix the fire alarm immediately. She told me to stop at the front desk on my way out. I went back up stairs and another half hour passed without anybody coming to change the issue so we left. I stopped at the desk on the way out and nobody was there. I am a VERY understanding person but why pay for a $126 a hotel room when I can’t shower or sleep in it when I want to? My Valentine’s plans were absolutely ruined. I wasn’t offered anything but an “I’m sorry”. That is not a way to run a business at all. I am disappointed by all of this. What a...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights to visit local sights and to do a little shopping nearby since Delaware is tax free. We are Marriott Platinum members, and this location had a special saver rate for our time there. The staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived, and were helpful throughout the stay. We were upgraded to a suite, for which we were grateful. But we had a number of problems. First, if you have a room facing the highway, it is VERY noisy. Since it's near a raceway, many of the local drivers have loud cars, and the motorcycles also make a lot of noise. After 10 minutes of lying on the bed, I decided that it wouldn't be possible to sleep in the room. The front desk offered to move us to a different room across the hall, also an upgraded room, although with 2 beds instead of a king. We accepted it, and indeed, it was much quieter. They said the same that I"ve read on other reviews here - there's nothing they can do about road noise. I've stayed in hotels that are near highways and next to an airport that didn't have a noise problem in the room. The body wash had fallen off the wall, was empty and in the tub. Housekeeping came up and gave us a new one, and reattached it, but a couple of hours later, it fell off too. We finished our days' activities, and went to turn the TV on. There were 2 in the room. One didn't work, and the other didn't have the ability to view Netflix, etc., or to choose TV stations from the cable except by going one-by-one. We made do for the night, and reported it the next morning. They were unable to get it to work, and later told us that some of the rooms don't have internet TV. That didn't explain the other TV not working at all. I suspect they didn't have anyone to fix it. They offered to move us again, and we declined. The front desk clerk offered us points for the inconvenience, which we accepted. The breakfast was lower quality than I've seen at other Fairfield Inn's. They had sausage both days that some looked overcooked or old, and other pieces looked like they weren't all the way done. One day the oatmeal was so dried and caked it was inedible, and the second day, it wasn't even cooked - flakes of oatmeal floating in lukewarm water. The did have packets of oatmeal I could take to the room and eat. But, the microwave turntable wasn't working either. The bottom line - this is a nicely decorated hotel with reasonable age. But the maintenance and oversight is missing - and the employees seem to be doing the best they can with a poorly maintained property - and probably understaffed. It's not the worst place I've stayed, but it's not likely a place I...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for a week due to a work related event from May 16 thru May 20, 2016. On Wednesday, May 18, 2016 I woke up and had blood on the sheet that I brought to cocoon myself in. There was also blood on my hand. After I got up 5:30am, I looked and there was a bed bug under my sheet. I had been bitten on the hand. I brought the bug down to the front desk and I was clearly upset. I was offered a roll of quarters and some laundry detergent to clean what I had brought with me. Fast forwarding....I was approached by the maintenance individual two hours after that and he asked if I had been given a new room, as they quarantined my along with my belongings until the "inspector" could arrive. I explained to him that I was not offered a new room and within minutes he made sure that I had one. The maintenance staff was terrific. They checked on me throughout the day. At 4:00pm I was approached and told by maintenance that they had good news and bad news. The good news was the inspector did not find any "live" bed bugs. The bad news...the bug I had presented was in fact a bed bug and the inspector found numerous "casings" in the room.
Hotel management was terrible in this situation. I filled out the survey a week later when I received it. I was honest and praised the efforts of the maintenance staff. However, I then received an email from the hotel General Manager telling me she was disappointed in my review and that she commended her entire staff in their assistance. Telling me everyone went above and beyond. That was NOT the case and I responded to her with the facts.
Well, I also emailed the Regional Manager, and received a less than suitable response. I spoke with Marriott Customer Care and Corporate on two occasions to file a complaint at the way management had treated me. I heard nothing back.
In short, the experience cost me $300 out of my own pocket to replace my luggage and cover all of my dry cleaning expenses. I received NOTHING from the hotel or Marriott except a great deal of aggravation and unprofessional management. Later, the hotel "credited" my government travel card $100. That is money that clearly did not benefit me.
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Poorly run Management...
