Such a weird experience- but in a bad way.
What we asked #1: Driving from Salem, we called about 30 min out to verify they had soup ready so we could grab a quick lunch before a show. The very friendly person on the phone confirmed soup was being served and said we'd have plenty of time to eat. We were excited (Beer Cheese soup is always a win)!
What happened #1: We arrived and ordered the soup we'd seen online (and had been thinking about for the last half hour) only for the server to tell us it wouldn't be available until after brunch. I told her about our phone call and she explained that the soup cooker had gravy in it and she could get us an order of biscuits and gravy out really fast. Again, friendly. Not thrilled we decided to share it. It was good -just not what we wanted. The Bloody Mary we shared was really watery. We didn't know until we were leaving that there was a Bloody Mary self-serve bar available to use - super fun, right? Wish we'd been told about it.
What we asked #2: When we arrived, not being from Eugene, we asked if paid parking ran on Sundays. The server told us, most emphatically no, no charge for parking on Sundays. I even showed her my phone as was preparing to pay. No need, she said.
What happened #2: You probably guessed it - we came out to a $42 ticket on our car. So, that doubled the cost of our meal.
Everyone else in the place seemed very happy and the servers seemed to know many customers by name. The TVs all had games on but the volume was off so conversations could be had.
It just seemed like it should have been a great experience but everyone was a little foggy - maybe recovering from celebrating the big win yesterday?
Bottom line - super disappointing and expensive due to the...
Read moreIt was our go to place for good beer and great eats. The daily specials are good and usually even when understaffed the wait staff hustle and try to make it right. But when they fail, they fail hard! And during football season they tend to fail hard. On our last visit we sat in the dining area for brunch. We got coffee and waited 33 minutes (yeah I timed it I'm a geek) and our waitress fiddled with settings on nearby tables, walked by twice and never made eye contact or even offered to refill our coffee. We left $3 on the table and walked out. When they have the better quality brunch menu back (apparently not during football season either) we may give it another shot. This could and should be a 4.5 or better rated eatery. The food is exceptional for a bar, the prices are fair, the atmosphere is great but the hit and miss nature of service says manager needs to be on the floor not in the office til consistency in service is part of the culture. I'm cautiously optimistic but based on other piers' reviews, not holding my breath. With that said, if you hit an on day, you score. Hit an off day and you'll walk out too.
(Dec 2, 2017) Update note to owner: the experience my wife and I describe was on a Sunday at 10 am about 2 months +/- ago on whiskey bar side. Female waitress I can't describe as only saw her when she served coffee and those around us. We chose not to return since as being ignored is never acceptable at any time during any season. I appreciate owner response and will be in again to give it another try as we enjoyed our previous experiences. I will adjust rating based on our next visit in the...
Read moreI have gotten food from here so many times that it wouldn't be right for me to not give an honest review and a shout out to this place. Every single time I have ever ordered from them, it's incredible, delicious, full of flavor and you can tell it was made with love and some conviction. The Cajun chicken pasta is my favorite dish, maybe of any place, ever. Perfectly balanced with a little spice, charred grilled perfectly seasoned moist chicken, cherry tomatoes, and the grilled sourdough bread is a great addition. I also love the steak frites, insane flavor profile, and the arugula with blue cheese and the sauce they put on it, sheesh. So damn good. I could eat those two things for my entire life and feel like a spoiled king. Their house burgers are also very good. I should probably explore the menu more as I'm sure everything is amazing here, but I just love those first two dishes so much that it's hard not to order them. If you like Cajun seasoning with a tiny bit of spice, not overpowering, you will love this dish. The sauce the pasta is cooked in is so rich and creamy, just chef's kiss amazing. I havent found a single other place in eugene or springfield that even comes close and I've lived here as a foodie for 35 years.
Thank you for making your food something to look forward to after a hard days work. I've also never been able to finish it all in one sitting and it doesn't lose any of its quality after a day or two in the fridge. Warmed up for 30 seconds in the microwave and it's still amazing as leftovers. Literally just finished mine from yesterday...
