The only reason Amtrak is getting one star is because of the Eugene based train. The staff was helpful and the cars were empty which made everything easy. We took the train to Canada. I booked my hotel reservations through the amtrak website and due to a credit card issue, our hotel reservations were not saved and I never received ANY notification of a problem...and therefore arrived with NO hotel reservation. On the return trip, customs check-in was painfully slow and disorganized in spite of the advanced notice of the amount of passengers traveling. When we arrived in Portland for the bus portion, we barely made the bus in time because of the poor directions at the station and one girl got left behind. We heard the driver say "I'm two minutes late." She wouldn't even open the door. The restrooms were dirty and the concession food was meh...with the 30+ minute wait for food/beverages largely disappointing. Won't travel by...
Read moreIf only Eugene wasn't so dirty....no, it's much worse now than that, Eugene is disgustingly filthy. There is trash everywhere around the station along with an army of homeless people camped everywere. There is no feeling of personal safety either at this station or just out for a short walk. When getting off the train, we were greeted with an armed security gaurd, waiting at the door of the train, what does that tell you? I've never seen this at any other Amtrak station, anywhere. We used to enjoy taking Amtrak to Eugene to spend a weekend. Now, we got off the train and right back on adding onto our tickets and went up to Seattle instead for this three-day weekend. I gave this review 3 stars because we really enjoy taking Amtrak and this is a nice station, but they need to quit stopping in this city, Eugene. This city is now just dangerous looking and disgustingly dirty. If you found this helpful, please click on Like...
Read moreRode a bus from Eugene to Portland. Worst bus experience I’ve ever had. The bus driver was ignorant disrespectful and judgmental. She read the rules to us at every stop like she’s supposed to but out of nowhere she says “I smell a cigarette so I’ll be pulling over until that person gets off the bus” Mind you, NO ONE lit a cigarette on the whole bus. She then proceeded to pull over for 30 minutes plus and called the police. No one was smoking so no one exited the bus. The majority of the bus said they never smelled any smoke. Only the driver and one lady in the very front smelled anything but they targeted the people on the back of the bus. People started missing connections and were very upset. Once the sheriff arrived he asked a random guy to leave for simply going to the bathroom at all. All the passengers had his back and told the driver she was wrong. He did not have to leave but still a major waste of time...
