We recently stayed at Summer Bay Orlando and definitely will never stay here again. The very first negative to our experience was the complete lack of cell reception - I know this is not particularly the resort’s fault, but it’s a major inconvenience that is worth noting for those considering this resort. They do provide free WiFi in rooms and indoor common areas, but we could not even make a phone call in the parking lot or send a text message from the pool. Our group had multiple different cell carriers as well.
The second issue with our stay was our attempt to check-in at the resort’s allotted time of 4pm, to not actually receive our room keys until almost 7pm. I made multiple calls to the front desk between 4-6:30pm to check if our room was ready, and each time was turned away stating “they are still working on it”. When I requested some form of compensation for the inconvenience, I was given a coupon for a free pizza and a beverage.
The third issue came when we began to set up the pack & play provided by the resort. There was a large hole in the side netting, which is obviously a major safety concern. I called the front desk and the staff member apologized and said they would send a replacement up right away. After waiting nearly two hours (mind you, it is approaching 11pm at this point), my husband decided to leave at 10:50pm and go to the Walmart nearby to purchase our own. When he returned around 11:25pm, of course the replacement was waiting at our door. The entire experience with the pack & play could’ve been avoided had the resort taken the slightest due diligence in checking over the quality of pack & plays they are loaning out. This issue also leads me to believe that the resort practices zero cleaning or safety checks between guests utilizing their baby equipment.
The fourth major issue was in the room of our family member also staying at the resort with us. They discovered a large spot of black mold in the washer/dryer closet ceiling. When they made the resort staff aware of the mold, they brushed it off and told them they would “need to go verify it was actually mold”, and promised a phone call to arrange a new room later in the day. This was first thing in the morning, and when we returned late that evening, no communication had been made from the resort and my family members chose to sleep another night in a mold-infested room. The following morning, they made yet another trip to the front desk and were finally awarded a new room (upgraded from their initial booking). Yet again, another instance of cleaning/safety negligence on the resort’s behalf.
Other notable concerns that were an issue for our particular group were the lack of quality food options on-site, as well as the distance to Universal/Disney, and the lack of common household products provided. We tried the Italian restaurant one evening, and every item we ordered was flavorless and incredibly boring. Each day we traveled to the parks, it averaged 90-120 minutes round trip. The rooms also do not include necessary coffee filters, trash bags, or housekeeping - they do have a small manual “vacuum” in the closet, but if guests are expected to clean their own rooms, the very least the resort could provide would be an actual vacuum. You are also required to remove your own trash during your stay + upon checking out, as well as collect all dirty bath linens and prepare all dishes to be washed. Some “vacation”.
The resort is dated and the craftsmanship is lacking, particularly in the bathrooms - I felt it necessary to wear sandals during showering, as our shower was sloped improperly and held water horribly. We also noted lots of small bugs throughout the bathroom, which ventured into the bedroom due to the open concept (no door) design. The water pressure in the shower was great, and the water was very hot! Those are really the only positives we experienced. I do feel that the price of the resort accurately reflects the quality you are receiving, so beware of budget vs quality and decide which is more important for...
Read moreTo say we are disappointed with Exploria is an understatement. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING WITH THEM!
Our first night, the door to the unit we were put in was broken, allowing cold air, and TONS of bugs to get in. There were bugs everywhere, even in the beds. We were all bitten up by bugs while we slept. There was also rain water coming into the entry way of the unit.
I decided to take a hot bath in the jutted tub, and black stuff came out of the jets. It’s was absolutely disgusting.
We were moved to another unit, so we had to pack up our bags and move up to the third floor (with no offer of help to move our things).
Our last full day of our vacation was completely ruined, as the washing machine in our unit broke, and we had to stay there so maintenance could repair it.
Our washer filled with water, but turned off, leaving our clothes in a washer filled with water, completely drenched.
I called the front desk, and it rang, and rang, and rang, with no answer. I tried several times to reach them, but no one ever answered. It was later in the evening and we were already in our pajamas, so we decided to wait until morning.
The next day we finally reached someone… first, they fixed the washer, but within 5 minutes it stopped working again.
We had to remove our completely saturated clothes and put them in a laundry basket, and wait around even longer for them to remove the entire washer/dryer and replace it with a new set.
In the meantime, they gave us access to the washer and dryer in the unit next to ours. So, we had to carry our soaked laundry next door. The washer did work, but the dryer wasn’t working correctly. So now we had TWO broken washer/dryer sets.
They finally finished installing the new washer/dryer in our unit, so we then took the wet clothes back to our unit, and tried to dry them, but the dryer was making the most awful sound (definitely not normal for a brand new dryer).
So, we had to wait for them to repair the dryer in the unit next to us, so we could use that one.
It wasn’t until evening time that all of this was taken care of. The rest of the night we had to wash our clothes in our unit, then carry our wet clothes next door to dry them in the other dryer.
It was an absolute disaster, and truly consumed the bulk of our day and night (we were doing laundry until 1am) and we were unable to go to the amusement park we had planned to visit. These plans being cancelled made for a weepy mom, angry dad, and three very sad children.
You would think wow, it can’t get any worse than that, but yes, it can, and it did.
One of my children had a bedtime snack, and within minutes of the snack being placed (in a food to go box) on their nightstand, tons of tiny bugs were crawling ALL OVER the food in the box, and on the nightstand. We ended up having to throw the food away. Even after removing the food and wiping the nightstand down, the bugs didn’t retreat.
But wait… there’s more!
We found someone’s DIRTY UNDERWEAR in our room, just lying there on the floor.
There were also dirty kitchen utensils we pulled out of the drawers. That was very unappetizing.
The jetted tub in our new unit was dirty like the first, creating a brown foam on the water. Needless to say, I didn’t get in.
After all of these problems, we were offered one free pizza… we lost an entire day of our vacation, and were compensated with a pizza.
I do NOT recommend staying here, and I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE YOU from buying a timeshare with them.
Thankfully we didn’t buy a timeshare, and we will NEVER stay there again. We lost precious time and money because of the horrible condition this resort was in.
Front desk staff was so rude as well.

Read moreUpon arrival we got checked in and our room keys and then immediately after they were trying to push a time share event on you. Not the greatest welcome. Get to the room and it just smells dirty like some family had been living in there without cleaning it for a while. We laid down in bed and had a bug jump on our phone. We get out of bed and my wife had them all over her shirt. We call the office and they agree we go get our room exchanged. It's down pouring outside and we get inside where the representative had to make a comment about how I was soaked and if I'd like a towel interrupting me trying to ask about our room change. He didn't ask me if I wanted a towel seriously as it was a joke to him. We get our new room and it actually smells clean. However nothing was stocked. No toilet paper no shower curtain two towels no wash cloths. I had to call several times over the course of a few hours to finally get someone to bring these to our room. I wake up in the morning and I was covered in bug bites. All over my legs and my torso from laying in that first room we went to. They told us the day it happened they would let us know the results of the room if it was actually bed bugs. Never got a call, I had to call and ask about to which they responded they have not had anyone look into it yet and that they would have someone go and contact us with the results. It's our third day here with still no update. They offered a refund for one day stay. But with bug bites all over me, itching the past two days and the horrible service we've endured this is unacceptable. On top of that the water would take maybe 10 minutes to heat up, the AC in the room is super loud, and about every 25 minutes there is a strong sewage smell. TVs in the rooms are also outdated.
Update: Still no update on the status of the room with bugs. I was mistaken they didn't offer a day refund they offered a one day resort fee refund. $30. For being covered in bug bites and wasting an entire day of my honeymoon and having a room almost completely unstocked. Trying to call and talk to a manager just to be told that she won't be talked to like that when she's the one non stop interrupting me while I'm trying to talk. They called and claimed they found a couple gnats in the old room but was negative for bed bugs. I find it hard to believe that gnats would be under comforters on a bed and cause such nasty bites, yes I know gnats bite but I've never seen bites this bad from one. When the "manager" called me back I requested an apology for the way she spoke to me and accused me of whatever it was she claimed how I was talking to her and to that she refused. They responded to my review saying they tried to contact me about the results, almost a week later from it happening. When I was non-stop ignored and accused of mis-treating the so called "manager". Still only received that $30 resort fee for one day for a refund. Was contacted about the time share scam that they tried to play off as something else when we got there. Didn't see it at the time of signing and paying $20 that it was a time share scam. The representative called and asked us why we didn't make it to the event and I told her I wasn't aware it was a time share scam and can congratulations on making $20 from me. She claimed they were going to refund it...
