Spyder Surfboards — Local services in Hermosa Beach

Sad to say, I had an extraordinarily bad board rental experience there! We went to rent a foamie for my friend and were told renting a foam board for an hour would be a $300 ?!! hold on your card for insurance that they can’t return to your card for 2-3 days. $300 is an insane amount of money, especially for not even renting a hard top. Renting the board cost $15/hour….and the hold was $300 per board….. The staff was lovely and even felt embarrassed by requesting the amount. Everyone was aware how outrageous that is for a simple board rental. Most places take your ID as insurance. This is something else. Worst part is our usual place was closed, so we proceeded, and then they led us back to get our board and….They were all dented and fins broken. Not one looked in good shape. Fins hanging off of them about to fall off. None of the boards had leashes on them. And none of the staff could even find a leash to put on. Seriously stay away from this place for rentals. Really nice beach wear and fashion but not the friendliest store associates. The girls seemed aloof and unwilling to help. Maybe they were just socially awkward. The male associate was a little off with me too. I saw him very personable with other guests who looked like him. I tried to break the ice with small talk but instead got criticized / corrected for my choice of words and topic when I spoke so kindly. Overall, didn’t feel welcomed there or appreciated for my business. I feel Iike I should have been treated the same as any other purchasing customer.
