This place is a dump. Although it is almost 100 years old, no excuse not to take care of it. This is my brutely honest review - Here is what I experienced - ceiling tiles are falling out or have lots of brown water stains , the furniture is worn and broken. The desk in my room, one of the knobs was missing off the drawer and the other one was hanging on barely. Even the table in the front lobby, one of the legs was bent in. No pencil and paper to use. For some reason, the sink didn't even have a stopper in it. Then the next morning my toilet wasn't flushing. Apparently no one is on call, like a handy man or an assistant manager. They called the manager. This was around 7 a m. She did not come in till 945 a m. They moved me into another room. I'm not sure why they couldn't have done that earlier. And this other room is just as dumpy... I was scared to plug in any of my devices because there's extension cords, and outlet multipliers on all the outlets. And some of the outlets were pretty loosely held in. Nothing conveniently located... the light on the desk has electrical tape around the socket where the bulb is. And you can't use it anyways, because the air conditioner is plugged into the outlet. This other room had a sofa and when you sat on it, you basically sunk right into it-my knees came up to my chest because I was so sunk in. I turned the light on in the bathroom and you might as well have had a candle. It was so dim. Oh, and the icing on the cake when I opened the fridge to put my water bottle and snacks in, there was a big puddle inside, like it was in defrost mode. Finally I was going down the stairs from my 3rd floor room and had to step over the linens on the 2nd floor stairs that apparently were tossed over the railing from the 3rd floor housekeeping. I think that was the easy way to get the linens to the 2nd floor because I believe the washing machine was located on the 2nd floor.
Overall the workmanship and care whether it was the fixtures or furniture or the carpeting or tiles or painting or whatever.- Attention to detail was apparently not important. And lets fix the loose door knobs and the curtains...holes and stains in some.
Also in talking with some of the staff, I think they agree with the condition and do the best they can. There is also another hotel a few minutes away called the Wayne Inn I believe part of the same management.... Another couple I met was at the bar at the Hotel Wayne where I was and said that hotel was horrible.
The staff was mostly nice and the food was good. But I shutter to think what the kitchen looked like if the rooms...
Read moreI rented one of the apartment rooms(1bdrm) on 10/12/24-10/14/24. It was over $400 for 2 nights!!! AND I was quoted a much cheaper price not even a week before arriving!! My whole family was staying in this hotel for a family members wedding down the road. I was told all prices had been lowered because of the time of year but I swear they jacked them back up because it was a wedding party. Let me just say I am a HUGE supporter of local businesses and a very easy going person but this was one of the worst AND most expensive stays I've ever had. For a pet friendly hotel there was literally NO WHERE to walk dogs, that wasn't across a busy street. Second the stairs/porch leading up to the aprtment looked like they were going to literally fall off the building, and dont even get me started om the back stairs, they LITERALLY were falling off the building. There was no pull put couch as advertised. There was a literal hole in the bathroom floor my son cut his foot on. The coffee pot had no basket so was completly unusable, and no toaster(supposed to be full kitchen). Every drain in the place was clogged with disgusting old hair and the kitchen sink faucet handles were backward and the whole thing flopped around so bad I thought It was going to fall off. The kitchen staff/overnight staff hung out all night at the back kitchen door, which happened to be pretty close to one of our windows and they were SO LOUD, playing music talking etc. It went on until well past 1 am both nights we stayed there. I barely slept either night. And the fact that the building is right off a BUSY road and they still had air conditioners in the windows, you could hear worry single car and person that walked by. My parents stayed in the 2 brdm apartment next door and had just as bad of a stay(let me add there weren't even proper bedding for all the beds in either apartment and what was there was GROSS). I cannot speak for the regular rooms inside the building but both apartments were ridiculously expensive for horrible rooms. I DO NOT RECCOMEND staying in the apartments. I truly wish I could get money back because it was just THAT BAD and I really hate to do this but I just cannot keep silent about how awful AND expensive this was. So so disappointing, I really had such high hopes for...
Read moreAlthough the people are wonderful and the location was key for the town of Honesdale, the room was horrible. And yes I know they are "preserving" the almost 200 year of history, however if that was the case why is there old stained warped drop ceilings in the rooms. That's far from authentic. The electricity and the running of extension cords from the window ACs to over loaded outlets had me concerned. The plumbing was awful. If you left a white washcloth in the sink and ran the water you'd get a brown stain as the water passed through the cloth. The ice trays, that were left to fill since there is no ice machine, they had a film and dirt in them. Now the bugs... strange winged ant like creatures sometimes no bigger than a thumb nail other times as big as 2 inches, they seemed concentrated by the upper windows, so I don't know if they were coming from outside but couldn't get back out, or if they were inside trying to escape. I would find 3 or 4 by each of the windows each morning and kill them and then a few more when I returned home in the afternoon. Not that I wanted to shower in brown water but when needed the water pressure was none existent. Some outlets in the kitchenette area didn't not work. And I butted a chair up against the door at night as that seemed very "authentic". The week I was there overnight construction apparently needed to take place right outside my window and since there are window ACs you cannot close the curtain to block out the giant construction lights that were erected at 3am. That was a surprise. If they would have invested in some pull down shades or blinds that would probably be a better idea with window ACs. But the construction isn't their fault, just the lack of common sense design. I did read reviews prior to booking and I did think yeah maybe these other people aren't in tune with an "historic" "authentic" locale. But if they are willing to mount a flare screen TV and leave old dilapidated drop ceilings then they can't really say the issues people have are due to their inability to appreciate old world style. Again the people were very pleasant and the food in the restaurant below was nice...
