One word: CHAD!
Chad may as well be Superman's alter ego, because he came to our rescue on a day that would even make Lex Luther cry. It was Mother's Day and my wife, father, brother, and his 2 young kids were flying home to LA from Gulf Shores, Alabama. Our flight was delayed because of weather in Houston: weather that miraculously only affected Southwest planes. Well, we landed in Houston and sat on the Tarmac for almost an hour, so we missed our connecting flight. The airport was a zoo, but we were able to find a short line for a Southwest rep at a random gate. The best she could do to get us home was to break up our party and send my wife and I to LA the next morning, while the other 4 would fly a red-eye to Las Vegas, where they would rent a car and drive the rest of the way home. Oh, and Southwest wouldn't comp anything because the official reason for the issues was "weather."
So the nice lady offered to have our 2 suitcases pulled so we could have our belongings for the extra day of travel, not to mention the diapers and necessities for the little ones. BIG MISTAKE! We go down to baggage claim to find a 2-hour line for the counter, and after waiting in line we were told it would be another 5 HOURS before they would potentially have our bags.
Luckily, this is when Chad entered our lives. My wife was looking for a nearby hotel with a shuttle that would allow us to bring our family so the little ones can take a nap and we can wait all day for our flights. Chad said that he had already taken the initiative to let the hotel owner know that things were amiss at the Houston airport, and had authorization to go above and beyond to help out those in need. Talk about southern hospitality!
Well, once we found out about the luggage fiasco, we had to call Chad back to see if he would be able to pick us all up now, bring us back in the evening to get our luggage and place my family on their flight, bring me back to the hotel, and then bring my wife and I to the airport at 6am for our flight out. "Not a problem," he said. "I'll be there in 5 minutes."
So Chad comes and gets us in the hotel minivan, allows us to check in early at no extra cost, invites us to use the nice coffee/espresso machine in the lobby, and places us in a quiet and convenient room with the kiddos. We ordered some food, which Chad let us eat in the very clean lobby so the kids could nap peacefully, and the rest of the day went smoothly...until we found out or morning flight had an extra stop in El Paso.
The hotel was very clean and clearly had some recent renovations, the rooms were comfortable with very large televisions, the included breakfast exceeded expectations (the Texas-shaped waffle maker was a nice touch), and there was a nice little pool (though we didn't use it) and a few water features on the property. However, the highlight of the stay was Chad. Give that man a raise. Better yet, clone him and put one of him in every hotel, ever. The world would be a better place, and our happy and well-rested population could come together and solve all the big problems like hunger, world peace, climate change, and homelessness.
TL;DR Chad = awesome, hotel = clean, TVs = big,...
Read moreThis is a good hotel for the money. Comfy beds, a kitchen, a nice tv and housekeeping was very nice and hardworking. The good things stop there though. First of all, this isn’t in Houston it’s on the outskirts on a not so desirable part of town, at least for a MDA patient and his elderly mother. The room was nice, but there were a lot of spots where things were missed or not cleaned. The kitchen had a bare minimum of old outdated utensils and broken keurig. I did see a couple of roaches staying here, but it was sparse so I wouldn’t say it was roach infested per se. I stayed for a week and a half so I had to do laundry. The washing machine and dryer were on the second floor so I had to climb it after a major surgery with my elderly mother to wash some laundry. On top of that, the machines looked like old 1970s models and there was only one of each, so laundry was a pain. The worst part of the whole experience was the neighbors we had, who I believe live in the hotel. They were in and out of the room at multiple hours of the day and night, and for some reason hung out right in front of our door smoking weed being loud and arguing literally everyday and night. They would sit in their car outside all hours of the day playing loud music and skrrrting off whenever they drove to do god know what. There were also other neighbors that were above use somewhere that were very loud when they walked through their apartment. We called the office to complain, and the employee at the time said he’d check it out. While he was outside I even heard another room complaining about it. We received a call from the same guy 5 minutes later saying that it was the roofers working on the roof and that they would be done soon. Mind you, there was no work van in the parking lot and this was around 6pm. So the banging and crashing went on until around 1am until I’m assuming some kids fell asleep.
This was an okay hotel, but don’t come here expecting a relaxing visit. Nice hotel if you want to sit in the parking lot at 3am fighting and blaring UGK on your crappy car stereo while you smoke some reggie. Don’t worry, management...
Read moreThe young gentleman picked us up quickly from airport, and was very courteous. We were placed in room 117 which was adjacent to the last room on the row, which was occupied by people who literally partied until 5:00am. Walls are paper thin, we could hear entire conversations outside of our door. And it we highly suspected some drug activity involved in that room. We brought it up the attention of the front desk in the middle of the night who did come to talk to them, but instead of quieting down they turned up the music volume so we let it go as we are not the complaining type. We are a family with 2 children. None of us slept the entire night. But not the hotel's fault, only so much they can do.||The room also had small blue pieces of tape everywhere on the walls in areas that were marked as obviously needing updating/fixing, and wondered if we should have been placed in this room in the first place? Maybe it was their last available room? The room was spacious enough, but just appeared outdated. ||We searched for places to eat, went to Denny's 2 blocks away, walking there and back at round 7pm we did NOT feel safe. If you have family please do not walk in surrounding streets. ||This was unfortunately one of the most unsettling hotels we've ever stayed at, and honestly we were not expecting perfection or luxury in the least, but simply a comfortable, safe place to sleep before our cruise. Lady at front desk and the one in charge of breakfast were very courteous and kind, however. And breakfast was very simple but adequate. Just our honest review mostly to just warn families with...
