Being a long-time patron of IHG hotels, I felt confident in Booking this Candlewood Suites property. We had traveled for many hours the day of our arrival in Idaho Falls and expected a comfortable room to relax for the evening. In the early afternoon on the day of arrival, we called the hotel to confirm our reservation. We were assured by the desk clerk that our room was secured and that we had been given an upgraded room with a balcony. We thanked her and continued our travels.
When we arrived at Candlewood Suites, we were told they had no rooms with 2 beds as we had requested at the time we made the reservation. After a few minutes, we were told that the best she could do was to put us in a room with a sofa bed and a king bed and that was all she had available. We were weary from traveling and didn't feel that we wanted to deal with fining another hotel at that late hours. We unloaded our luggage and proceeded to the assigned room. Upon arrival, we found it to be a handicap accessible room. We decided to try to make the best of the accommodations and move on.
As we prepared to retire for the evening, we pulled out the sofa bed only to find a pile of pop corn kernels and a large yellow stain on the sheets that seemed to be from the buttered pop corn. We were repulsed! Since we had been told that was the only room with 2 beds, we had no choice but to stay in that room.
If that wasn't enough, there was so much noise coming from the room directly above us that we couldn't sleep. We called the front desk and asked is she could quiet the occupants of that room so that we could sleep. She said she would speak to them. The noise continued and seemed to become worse. It sounded like children were repeatedly jumping off the bed onto the floor directly above us! I called the desk clerk again and told her the noise had gotten worse. She confirmed that there were children in that room and she would speak to them again. We had to put ear plugs into our ears in order to fall asleep as the noise continued! We had a long drive ahead of us the next day and we had a most unpleasant night with little sleep in the Candlewood. We have been loyal to IHG hotels, but this experience has prompted us to seek other hotel chains who will honor our preference in completing our reservations...
Read moreNOTE: this applies to all the Candlewoods I’ve been to, not just this one.
For an extended stay hotel, they have potentially the stupidest Wi-Fi connection system I’ve ever seen. They know exactly how long I’ll be here, yet the Wi-Fi kicks you off at the exact same time every single night.
The kicker is that reconnecting is a completely frustrating mess. Every single night (again, despite knowing exactly how long I’m here for), it makes you reauthenticate through their little webpage, where you have to tell the page what room you’re in and your last name.
Except it uses some sort of crappy redirect system that flat out does not work. It will refuse to redirect you to that reauthentication page, sometimes for up to an hour at a time. So, if you’re traveling for business and have important things to do, carve out thirty minutes to an hour at the same time every single night to try and reconnect to their crappy Wi-Fi.
Why????????
I’ve even been so lucky as to have finally gotten to that reauthentication page and punched my info in, just to have it not actually connect me to the internet anyway. I had to change some Windows settings to even get the Wi-Fi to ask me for my room and...
Read moreWhen I travel, finding a safe, comfortable, clean place to spend the night is paramount. Although that is my main focus, I always appreciate extra comforts and conveniences. The Idaho Falls Candlewood Suites provided that. Having a recliner in the room felt like a luxury and, as an older person, I especially appreciated the grab bar by the shower. I liked having liquid soap in a dispenser, rather than a little bar of soap, and shampoo and conditioner in dispensers in the shower instead of little individual bottles. So much less waste. Although I didn’t use the kitchenette during my one-night stay, it would certainly be a godsend had I stayed for an extended period.
I’ve traveled a lot this past year and, even in nice hotels, I can’t tell you how many filthy room carpets and littered hallways I’ve seen. Not here. Every area of the hotel was clean and well-maintained. And, importantly, the staff were welcoming, efficient, friendly, and polite.
The hotel is conveniently located and it’s nice that it is on the river and by the riverwalk. Plus, there are plenty of eateries close by. Overall, I will plan on staying here again on my next trip to Idaho Falls. Thank you for a...
