High Entertainment Value
A few months ago, I started seeking for a hotel to accommodate myself and my family (totaling 4 rooms). With multiple events taking place in the Indianapolis metropolitan area this weekend, prices everywhere were high. This hotel appeared to be clean, comfortable, and affordable. I skimmed through reviews reading the high points and also taking into consideration the low points as well. Common sense tells me this is not Caesar’s Palace, but it checked all the marks with availability, price, breakfast, and ease of access to the local areas we had intended on visiting. With approximately $350 for a weekend, I was sold.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the gal at the front desk. My significant other asked for the location of the lobby’s restroom. She stated they do not public restrooms. All fine. During our check in, she answered a FaceTime video call, and told the individual she was working and to “hang on”. She let the call continue on as she was checking us in while we had casual conversation with some of the others in the lobby. I did not mind the interruption of her answering a call, or even a FaceTime call. However at the time, she also was handling my ID and my credit card, so there was minor discomfort, and I went about my business after receiving our hotel key cards, and we made way to the elevator.
By the time the elevator hit our floor (3rd), I found myself searching for a corner to claim as my own because I was unsure the metal on metal scratching mixed with the rhythm of rusted chains was going to hold us for much longer before breaking. We arrived safely on floor three, and chose to take the stairwell the remainder of our stay.
The 3rd floor hall greeted us with the potent odor of cannabis, and knowing this was not a Five Star Hotel, I had no complaints.
Our room was as described: 2 full beds and a kitchenette. There were cigarette burns on the floor paneling ironically located next to a no smoking sign.
Room felt/appeared as clean as expected and held no complaints amongst us.
While we were getting settled into our room, the remainder of our family began checking in with the same front desk gal. She was very friendly with them, so much so, that after discussing the hotel bar, we found out the hotel bar was not actually facilitated by the hotel. It was just a side gig that she was running in one of the spare rooms.
Anyway, we left the room for the evening to tend to our plans. When we arrived back in the 10 o’clock hour, the smoking section in the outside parking lot was filled with the scent of anything but cigarettes. The stairwell & hallway replicated these strong THC odors, enough so much that the kids asked if there was a skunk around. That night was filled with loud partying from Floor 2 that kept some of our family awake, while others were unfazed.
The following morning, I went down for morning breakfast, and found myself lost. I inquired and was told they don’t really have a breakfast. They managed to conjure up 3 prepackaged muffins to hand me. While this took place, the same front desk gal spent time slapping on hotel doors from the first floor, telling people to get up. Not sure if they were friends partying with her at the “hotel bar” or there was a strange wake up request that involved door slapping amongst the 1st floor stayers.
While the entertainment level was high and the beds were comfortable, I am not sure this would be one I would recommend to my family and friends. I cannot guarantee this won’t be my last time staying at The Extended Stay America of Indianapolis-Fishers, but I would have to be craving prepackaged muffins & the thick smell of pot in order...
