We made reservations early in the morning, around 10am, prior to our travels and after a long day, we checked in around 9pm. The young woman at the front desk introduced herself as the property manager and asked for my reservations. I pulled up my email to give her the number. At first, she was unable to locate it and asked if it was under a different name. I said no, she checked again and still couldn't locate it. She then told me that their system they use for reservations had been down all day, so she honored the rate I was given from booking online. She was a very nice young woman and we had a short conversation during check-in. I was given a room on the first floor which was very, very nice considering I have osteoarthritis and the climb up to the second floor was outside and would have been difficult, especially since it is winter.
After checking in and receiving our room key, we proceeded to investigate the room. This is something we do at any place we stay to check for bugs, cleanliness and to ensure everything is satisfactory. MOST motels/hotels will honor a full refund if you do a check within 10 minutes of arrival and the room isn't to your satisfaction. I recommend every one do this as it will save you a lot of problems if you find yourself in a situation where there are some unwanted guests with you.
When we walked in, we were met with a smell of ahhhhh, clean. We checked the beds, pulling back the sheets, mattress protectors and pillows. Clean. Then we pulled out all the drawers and checked the lining of them. I can live with drawers being slightly off when you pull them out, I can't live with bugs or garbage from the previous guests. The drawers were clean and rolled perfectly. No snags. Then, we checked the lights, switches, outlets, sink, tub/shower, toilet, microwave and mini fridge. Everything was great and in working condition.
Overall, the room was perfect. There were no issues and the beds were the comfiest we have ever experienced. This one will be our go-to for our next stay when we come this way.
They do not offer a breakfast in the morning, but they do offer 24-hour coffee and tea in the lobby. There is a guest laundry, vending machines and an ice machine in the lobby as well.
So, in my conclusion, this is a great place to lay your head for a good night's rest at a fair price. The parking lot is well lit and parking is efficient. The location is right off the interstate and...

Short version: horribly rude staff, disgusting property, room stank of cigarette smoke.
Long version: For over a decade, when I travel with my dogs, I always stay at a Red Roof Inn. They aren't fancy, but they're generally clean, affordable, and I appreciate their pet-friendliness. I almost always have two dogs with me when I stay, and I have never encountered a problem. My husband and I decided to stay at the Castleton location to avoid a long night-shift commute after a very late medical appointment. We brought our two well-behaved dogs with us without thinking twice. First, Red Roof now requires a $100 deposit upon check-in for incidentals. I paid the deposit, and the clerk (I am assuming he is the owner) gave us our key without asking us any questions. Second, the room smelled like smoke, even though the property is supposedly smoke-free. I didn't complain, but it was disgusting that ALL of our belongings reeked like cigarette smoke when we left. Third, there was so much animal waste on the property's green space that it was almost impossible to walk in the grass with our dogs. Completely disgusting. Finally, the owner and another employee (a son or other relative, I'm guessing), came banging on our door after 7pm. I had been sleeping for my upcoming night shift, so it was jarring to be awoken like that. They asked me how many dogs I had, to which I said two, and they told me that the property only allows one dog. The owner then shouted at me, accused me of lying to them, saying I told him at check-in I had no pets, when he never even asked me about pets. They said no dogs were allowed in the room I was in, and they proceeded to force us to check out immediately because I had 2 dogs. The owner continued shouting after I said no one asked me about any pets, and said they ask everyone. I find this amusing, as the man in the room next to me also had a dog with him.
Because of this horrible family, I will never stay at a Red Roof again. I will pay the extra money to stay in a nicer facility, on a clean property, with employees who don't ambush you and shout and who cannot produce their own policies in writing.
I will admit, however, that there is a line in the fine print on Expedia which says only 1 pet is allowed per room. My mistake. Disappointing, as my dogs are great, and I always clean up after them!
