Cleanliness: so-so. Bed sheets seemed clean, but the bathroom had lots of hairs, dust, fuzz balls, and dirt on the floor and in the bath tub.
Quietness: Terrible. Every time someone closed a door somewhere in the hallway, the bed experienced a jolt as if it had been kicked. I was awoken several times during the night, not from the noise of doors, but from the feeling of my bed being jolted. There was plenty of noise too, though - the walls are thin, the floors are uneven, creaky, and hollow/thumpy. Big gap beneath the bottom of the door, so any conversation in the hallway comes through loud and clear. Each time the wall unit heater/AC turns off, it makes 3 large thumps that sound like someone is knocking loudly on it from the outside. The windows are single pane glass, so people scraping ice off their vehicles outside sounds like they're knocking on the window.
Internet: Obnoxious and unreliable. For most of my stay, I had to be online to get work done.... nothing high-bandwidth, though. The internet would keep kicking me off every 30 minutes or so, at which point I would have to re-connect and watch an ad before it would allow me to resume my activities. Sometimes the browser would redirect to the ad when I was mid-task on a webpage. On my second morning there, the internet wouldn't work at all. The hotel staff told ME to call tech support. I waited on hold for a while with tech support and by the time they got the internet fixed (it was down for the whole hotel; some guys in the lobby asked if I had it fixed yet), it was time to check out and I hadn't gotten any work done in three hours.
Staff: Some of the staff seemed polite but didn't speak very good English and didn't seem to understand me when I asked questions. Other staff spoke English well, but were brusque and unwelcoming.
Electricity & lighting: poor. The room has only 2 lamps with a total of 4 bulbs, and no overhead lights. One of the bulbs was burnt out. One of the lamps seems to have wiring in the carpet; it goes on or off depending on what part of the floor I step on. That...
Read moreNothing but rave reviews especially for Front Desk Angel Nikki who graciously, warmly found a last remaining room for me and my protection dog. She thought of everything to make my life easier, including looking up my Wyndham member # from my phone #. Nikki was disarmingly charming and clear with the info I needed. Competitively priced, $20 a night pet fee.
I'd driven 700 miles that day and ready to unfold myself from the front seat of the car, recline in a hot bath and take deep breaths but most of the motels in town were booked and I was in despair of having to spend the night in a truck stop ... But NOPE - Nikki to the rescue!
I read a few of the 1* reviews, that's not my experience and I'm sorry guests felt they had a 1* event. King size bed, ample lighting, desk, microwave, refrigerator, oversized television. Clean bathroom with towels and toiletries. Hallways clean, carpets clean, breakfast room clean, ample space to walk the dog.
I'm a frequent traveler and this Super 8 has everything I need. Many eateries in the area to choose from, lovely Jamestown, lovely experience.
If you have a good experience, please tip the staff a few dollars, sometimes it means gas in the car, milk on the table for babies and puts a big smile on happy faces and makes staffer's day easier. It's not so much about the $, although that helps, it's about feeling valued and appreciated.
FREQUENT TRAVELLER TIP: If you tip housekeeping, please take the $ to front desk and turn it in with your room key so that it's guaranteed to get to the person who helped you.
Thank you Nikki, thank...
Read moreWe stayed here on a long road trip across the US from Canada. Upon arrival, they checked us in fairly quickly. Got to our room and the keys didn't work, so went back and got new keys.||The room upon first appearance was fine. However, of the 2 lamps in the room (only light source) neither worked and both had broken glass bulbs in them, huge fire hazard. So I called down to the office to get new lamps. I left broken ones outside room while we went out to find some dinner. Upon our return, the lamps were gone but no new ones. I went to the front desk and waited and the lady said oh....she put them in storage, didn't realize we needed new ones???? Uhm okay.... so she eventually brought us two more so we had some light.||The plug situation is iffy in the room at best. The location is okay and there is a mall across the highway which was the one positive there.||It was quite a loud motel...||The next morning I went to make coffee with the coffee machine in the room only to discover that the basket for it was completely missing so unable to make coffee....UGH.||We went down to the continental breakfast and all that was left was 1 yogurt, 1!!! That was at 8am. We left and had to go buy breakfast.||All in all, I would NOT recommend this motel. this is the 2nd Super 8 we have stayed in the past year and...
