Recently, I was temporarily displaced and had mentally glazed over from the exhaustive mind-numbing search for an affordable hotel that wasn't home to every drug-addicted, child abusing/wife-beater this side of Dante's 7th Circle of Hell. I scanned my phone again and BAM! There it was; the hotel I knew hours earlier was the one: Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Katy @ I-10 & Westgreen. It was reasonably priced, I loved the decor, and the location. I was amazed by how well-lit the parking lot was when I pulled in, plus, I parked directly in front of the entrance. Not only that, as soon as I walked through the automatic glass doors I was greeted by a gentleman wearing a smile with a pleasant demeanor who was happy to help me and so was the police officer standing behind me who patrols the property. After he introduced himself he made it clear that he was around if I needed anything. Nice! Every morning the hotel serves a delicious Breakfast Buffet in a designated area inside the lobby at no charge for guests. Some of the items of the buffet include fresh fruit, cereal, muffins, breakfast cakes, granola bars, sausage gravy and biscuits, waffles, coffee, milk, juices and other items. Another accommodation I appreciate immensely are the laundry facilities. In fact, the card-key to my room provides access to the facility whenever I am ready to do laundry. Inside the room, there is one washer and one dryer and the room itself has been clean every time I've had the occasion to be in there. Both the washer and the dryer take 2.00 each (in quarters) to complete their respective cycles. I do appreciate that it only takes one cycle (2.00) to dry the garments in the dryer. There is also an exercise room beside the Laundry facility that is also accessible with the card-key to your room. Danny is Days Inn & Suites, manager extraordinaire, and I say that sincerely because I cannot recall ever seeing a manager work the front desk...by choice. Perhaps if they're understaffed, or they're being punished for some infraction, but it is unheard of, at least in the hotels I've stayed in recently, with one exception, Days Inn, Katy. Danny is at the front desk so much I often wondered if he slept or left, as I saw no evidence that he did either. His presence sets a precedent that is unmistakable and the logic behind that style of management is brilliant--I have seen the way he interacts with the staff and they are extremely loyal to him which is a credit to Danny and one more reason the environment unlike the others. Can I just lay it down plain and straight? There's vibe, joo-joo, that permeates the property in a positive way. It makes people feel good. One more thing and then I'll go, that is, the rooms, they are spectacular from the decor to the floor. Most importantly, the room, the bed, the bedding, the bath, shower, commode, sink, and refrigerator--everything is SANITARY & CLEAN. The towels are clean, without stain. Coming from someone who writes reviews sometimes it feels like negative elements hit me in the face and I hate that--but what I have experienced at this hotel has been a breath of fresh air, that has unwittingly restored my faith in humanity for many reasons. If you ever have the occasion to be in our neck of the woods, stop in, book a room, I think you'll be glad you did....
Read moreOK, I stayed here because of the price. I am flat broke. But, an extra $25 a night would have gotten a MUCH cleaner room where the owner actually cared about the comfort and safety of their guests. It is conveniently located. The elevator doesn't work and hasn't. For a very long time. I believe that the owners have no plans to fix it as that will cost money. The room was disgustingly filthy. The carpet was so stained that I wore slippers unless I were stepping in or out of the shower. I always travel with a rug for my bedside and I have never been so glad to have one The walls were covered in oils, stains, handprints, markers... The handles were off of the drawers. The bathroom and vanity hard floors were not only not mopped, they were swept. Under the bed skirts were not even lifted up by housekeeping. Between the two beds I found a rotten, but totally dedicated, peach, a bottle of women's deodorant and a baseball. Also a dozen or so of the beads that many children and some men wear on their braids The carpet stank, I had brought a scented candle which I burned, not to enjoy the scent, but on this trip it served to mask the room smells. I first checked for bedbugs but, thank goodness, I found none. That would have truly been the last straw. I would have shortened my stay and upgraded my hotel. The breakfast was an absolute joke. There were very overcooked eggs, some sausage links and Belgian waffles. No bread of any grain, no yogurt that I saw. There were 2 mini-muffins, no biscuits, grits, oatmeal (even instant). There was only one fruit (apples) one juice (orange) and only one cereal (raisin bran) but I doubt it was name brand. The AC did work as did the shower. There was no stopper in the shower so no baths, just showers. The vanity sink has long black hairs in it when I arrived. Having been an environmental services supervisor, I am Well aware that most places (including, sadly hospitals) are in truth, not clean at all, I always take Lysol and a spray bottle of alcohol with me everywhere I go. It certainly came in handy this trip If you can't afford a clean room, stay. But take disinfectant, ear plugs, a door alarm, a rug, a scented candle or room deodorizer, check for bed bugs and take ear plugs. It seemed as if there were many long term guests. I do believe that the owners are strict about keeping the rooms smoke free. This means that the long term guests all smoke right outside of their rooms for a lengthy period every night. Any trip out of your room for any reason means that you must pass through the smoke. There are butts everywhere and some guests ever keep a lawn chair beside their door for this purpose. Also, one block to West is a depressed area where there were people digging through trash that was dumped by the roadside. Take protection, be extra careful in forays out of the room, clean the room before taking possession and...
Read moreBeware. Don't stay here. I'm elderly and they tried to stick me in a room in a very dark succluted area with a dark alley beside my door. I ran back in the office and ask for a different room the lady at the counter told me No, I asked for a refund and walked out. About 5 minutes later a man walks out and ask me if I will take a 1 bed room, of course. He went to take me to 108, but it was 106, it's 11.30 at night. I ask for key, he goes to get it. My husband moves the car, But can't park at the front door bc an Off duty Ambulance driver backs it up right to our door and it stays there for 12 hours. Then I realize someone has been in the bed. He denied it , but I remember the lady across the parking lot that came out of this room. He denied it tells me I'm wrong. But how was the room open if I'm wrong? My husband saw her leaving the room too. A little while late we realize that our door doesn't close lock unless you slam it. While we were away the next day someone was in our room and stole certain things. I had the do not disturb sign on the door. They also had cancelled our room key and my husband came back to the room in an emergency and was locked out. They never asked me who was staying in the room with me and we have different last names. They didn't call to check with me, They just gave him a new key!! Our room had already been searched over. It's now 4AM there was 2 roaches crawling across the floor. I AM Out of here! Oh the TV remote is broke, no back. The room is also very muggy and floors are damp must wear shoes...
