This was our first time to give Mafia Sushi a try. It's located in a small center on Westgreen not far off of I-10. The parking in front of the location was ample. When we arrived a few minutes after 8:00 there was only one couple leaving, one person at the bar and one other couple seated. I was a little surprised that the lack of business for a restaurant with many five-star reviews.
We were promptly greeted and told to take our choice of tables. The restaurant had a very pleasant unpertentious decor and a cozy appeal. All the staff was very pleasant, attentive and gave us adequate time to look over the menu once seated.
We immediately ordered drinks and rceived a bowl of miso soup. I have to admit miso is a long way from my favorite soup, but it was no better or worse than what I've had in the past.
We placed an order for three rolls thinking that would be a good start. The spicy tuna roll came out first followed minutes later by the other two.
I noticed immediately that the spicy tuna wasn't typically your bright deep red of fresh tuna, instead it was a pink creamy looking paste, the likes that I have never had. My first bite confirmed there was virtually no tuna flavor, the texture was all wrong, but more noticeably was the warm room temperature of what should be raw fish. Next I tried the Spider roll, which every piece came apart and unrolled as soon as it was touched, forcing you to pick up pieces. The crab tasted like it had been fried in old oil and that flavor permeated the remainder of the roll. Then I tried the eel roll, which had the off flavor of old fish.
We were hungry so we got through the meal, but afterwards wishing we hadn't. Obviously, we didn't order anything further as we had originally planned. We paid and left hey tip for the service.
I mean this in all honesty, my wife and I have traveled the world and have been eating sushi for over 50 years. We have been to numerous places and like most from time to time ordered something that was not up to par or something we just didn't like. But everything we ordered at Mafia were things we have had numerous times in the past at many restaurants. Never have we had everything ordered subpar.
Old and off temperature fish is not only unappetizing it can be dangerous. Freshness, preparation and presentation are the key ingredients for good sushi. We found none of that at Mafia. Obviously, we will not return, nor can I recommend Mafia to others and I question the validity of the...
Read moreOH YEAH. I love this place. First time customer and was impressed in a major way. Let me tell you of my experience. We walked in and the air was fresh with all that sushi aroma. We were seated and our waitress was very attentive to our needs. The cook was fast. Our order made it to us in like 6 minutes flat. Both me and my wife's sushi was unexpectedly BIG. I mean the sushi was big for the price. With fresh ginger on the side. Don't forget the wasabi. The miso soup was just right. I will admit I enjoy sushi, but this place is special. To the end, our waitress treated us just right. We did not have drinks but there is a full bar if you wanna pick up some drinks. I want some Japanese cocktails. Next time for sure. The manager even came by to check up on us. Impressive. They even had that authentic Japanese accent and were stereotypically polite of the culture. Overall you cannot do better. Good job Mafia Sushi.
Update. Ive been at this Japanese restaurant many multiple times. The waiter and waitress know me well. I had asked my regular waiter guy if he could put some Japanese music, he was able to impress. A very authentic atmosphere. Thankyou very much. On the menu they got the most awesome ever ROCK N ROLL sushi. It really is good. And the kids love it. Cannot decide on sushi? Try the ramen soup. More specifically SPICY TONKATSU RAMEN, with pork. has heat, but trust me you can handle. The spice is more on the mild side. Soup big enough to have some to take home for lunch for work. Get some. Overall the Mafia sushi Experience is Top. I mean after eating so good with such exceptional service, why would you go anywhere else? Good job Mafia Sushi. An update. Most recently my family had once again visited. Service and food was exceptional and to our liking. Top tier Japanese restaurant. Dont believe those spoiled...

Two out of four rolls were really good. We got four rolls, a drink, and an appetizer. Cost $75 plus.
Service was friendly. They really were. But they were really off their game that night. We waited a VERY long time for a final roll, and we're going to cancel it.
A few tables seemed upset with wrong or late orders and we even got two things we didn't order. The guy helping the lady to serve our table was a bit more on point when it came to dealing with stuff and I feel bad docking the place honestly. Because I bet it is normally good. Though we felt a bit neglected.
My family was from NYC. We love the godfather, and the mafia theme. The random Jamaican remixes of old 80s songs was mixed. We loved the samurai art and Eastern aesthetic, but the overall feel was mixed.
Unfortunately, a shallow version of a man with a northern accent threatened to shoot another guy verbally at the sushi bar. Not something workers are paid to deal with. Having worked both multiple restaurants and security, you guys should cosisder calling the police the moment it turned potentially violent. Especially with those kids around. Never know what could've happened! He even left without paying. I am sorry that happened to you guys.
Was not the best...
