Whalers Cove is The. Best. Place. On. Kauai! Beautiful, serene and luxurious - this is our fourth trip to Whalers Cove and we are already planning our return. This vacation was a last minute, but much-needed, trip for us. Marianne Martin, who is the on-site property manager, is extraordinary -and she is the best at helping you manage your vacation in paradise. (A shoutout, too, to the staff who keep the units spotless!) The property is expertly manicured and has a walk-through orchid garden. It has a gorgeous pool AND a hot tub - and sitting in the hot tub and looking up at the brilliant stars in the evening is a great way to eliminate any lingering stresses that may have made the trip with you. We have stayed in Units 110 and 111 before - but on this trip, we stayed in Unit 122. All are phenomenal but Unit 122 is, well, incomparable. It's 2,000 square feet of luxury. The lanai overlooks the ocean. Breakfasts here can last hours. We'd go to either the market at Kukui'ula Shopping area (just a short walk from Whalers Cove and it has fabulous stores and restaurants) or the Big Save in Koloa Town for groceries and happily make our own breakfast so we could drink our coffee and eat on the lanai. The sound of the ocean promotes tranquility, and from our perch, we could see turtles navigating the surf and many beautiful birds flitting about the palm trees. Watching the ocean change its hues of blue throughout the day is mesmerizing - and was just the tonic we needed to relax. This unit has everything - including ALL kitchen appliances - plus what may be the most comfortable mattress ever made in the unit's master bedroom. Honestly, Whalers Cove is a vacation by itself, but if you choose to venture off property, the island is lovely. Here are some random recommendations in no particular order: Captain Andy's Sailing Tours Kauai ATV Tours Outfitters Kauai (zip lining) Kauai Backcountry Adventures (tubing) The Hanapepe Friday Night Art Festival and the Banana Patch Studio in Hanapepe. (There's a UPS store at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center so you can ship home your purchases). Keoki's Paradise (and treat yourself to the Hula Pie - because calories don't count in Kauai) Puka Dogs (coconut relish) Hyatt Regency for live music on the Terrace (any night) The Pakala Porter at the Kauai Island Brewery and Grill in Port Allen The Wednesday Farmers Market at the Kukui'ula Shopping Center Get a bottle of Gloria Ferrer Brut at Koloa's Big Save Market and some Hawaiian Sun guava nectar and make your own guava mimosas. Baby's Beach (you'll have to ask Marianne) Cucumber lavender margaritas at Tortilla Republic I purchased a little sign at Soha at the shops in Kukui'ula - "Hawaii is always a good idea." I'll add "Whalers Cove is always a good idea, too!" Aloha! And Maholo! Looking forward to returning to...
Read moreOur stay in Unit #124 at Whalers Cove was truly unforgettable, offering one of the most breathtaking ocean views right from our lanai. Each morning brought a new wonder: playful dolphins leaping, curious sea turtles surfacing, vibrant double rainbows, and stunning sunsets painting the sky. The constant, soothing sound of waves crashing against the rocks, just a stone's throw from the condo, was pure bliss.||Inside, we found a sanctuary. The beds were incredibly comfortable, with a thoughtful selection of pillow firmness options. The bathrooms appeared newly renovated and felt luxurious. The entire home was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed with local artwork, truly feeling more like a personal retreat than a rental. A special shout-out to the manager, Marianne Martin. Her deep connection to Whalers Cove and the land is palpable; her genuine love for the place and dedication to guests' amazing experiences shine through in every interaction.||The fully stocked kitchen made preparing our fresh macadamia nut crusted "catch of the day" a breeze – it quickly became our favorite dinner routine. For evenings when we preferred to dine out, Eating House 1849 was our go-to. We loved sitting at the bar, savoring their house-prepped edamame, the exquisite black garlic & yuzu ahi tartare, and the savory pork and shrimp pot stickers. The bartenders were incredibly kind, and we especially appreciated learning that one of them runs a farm that supplies the restaurant with some of its ingredients – a true farm-to-table experience!||For ocean enthusiasts, Whalers Cove/Koloa Landing offers some of the best snorkeling and diving opportunities right at your doorstep. Our last swim in the bay alone brought sightings of six turtles and a vibrant array of fish – definitely bring your goggles, you won't regret it!||If sandy shores are more your style, several beautiful beaches are just a 10-minute walk away. We enjoyed swimming and sunbathing at Kiahuna Beach. For a chance to see turtles and monk seals sunbathing on the beach check out Poipu Beach.||Golfers have many options on the island. A great deal we discovered was the 10-round package at Kiahuna Golf Course, conveniently located just a 5-minute drive from Whalers Cove.||You really can't beat the location of Whalers Cove. Beyond the immediate property, there are enjoyable walking opportunities. A short walk leads to Spouting Horn, a natural blowhole where water shoots up from the ocean. Additionally, the Kukui'ula Shopping Center, which has shops, restaurants, and a farmers market, is conveniently within walking distance. Their farmers market every Wednesday is something worth...
