So this place was new to us and all things considered a bit pricy. The room we had was clean and spacious with decent amenities. But missing a dresser or any shelving. There was no real work desk that you could use a laptop on. No full length mirror which is essential for fantasy fest. I also felt like they kind of nickeled and dimed for certain services. For example, we rented a little buggy but they told us it would cost us $32.50 to park it in the lot overnight. They offered a happy hour with cheese and wine but I feel like other places we have visited did this way better with an assortment of drinks and fun shots and not during dinner hours. The pool area was nice and quiet, but maybe just a little too quiet with no real music playing or any form of atmosphere for a party town, like Key West. Every trip requires downtime and, This also was an issue because they use very outdated tvs that do not have any way of streaming or casting content that may be on your phone or tablet so, you end up watching old shows with a ton of commercials. Perhaps, they need to update their technology in the rooms or at least offer some form of Chromecast device so that you can stream your own content. In conclusion we decided we probably would not come back to this place again, not that it was overly bad but there are so many options in Key West that I think might be a better bet. Also, lastly and this may not be fault of the inn itself but the drew in an older crowd and me and my wife at 50 felt we were pretty much the youngest people here.

Stayed here 4 nights, 5 days. Hotel has changed ownership since I stayed here last. I read the reviews before booking, after our stay I would question their legitimacy. Front desk is run like a motel. Nobody there half the time and nobody answering phones. If you want anything requiring a manager they have to make a phone call. Left messages for two managers and did not receive a response (Michael Nichols; Erik Dennisson). While I was speaking to the “supervisor” on site, one of the desk attendants chimed in by saying, “well, you left your moped in the front and that’s not allowed”. I moved it that night, and guess whose car was parked in that spot the next day ;) yup, hers. Rooms are run down, first room we stayed in was visibly damp due to a running bathtub faucet and had black mold all over the inside windows (see pic). Blanket on bed was actually a thin fleece blanket wrapped in two sheets. Room walls are paper thin so when the people next door come back from Duval after midnight, you will have to get dressed and out of bed to ask them to keep it down since no one is at the front desk from overnight. Key West is extremely good at tourism and hospitality and at $500-$700 a night plus “resort fees”there are plenty of other places to stay so do yourself a favor and pick any other property than SMS LODGING. On a positive note Dachelis tried her best to be helpful, despite managements efforts to leave her there to fend for herself.

Foster was completely unprofessional and rude, and made my girlfriend cry. When we arrived, Foster took us through a map of the area, which was helpful. He asked if we wanted to do any excursions and we said yes but we weren’t sure when we wanted to do them yet. He said that was fine and told us we could come back tomorrow to book them. At no point did he mention he received commission from excursion bookings. He also took my cell number.

The next morning my girlfriend went to the office and booked an excursion with the person there at the time, which was not Foster. Later, she went to the happy hour and was confronted by Foster.

He said “I see you booked an excursion. What happened to booking with me?”

My girlfriend responded by saying “Oh I’m sorry. We came the next day and booked like we talked about. We didn’t realize we were supposed to book with you. Do you get commission or something?”

He said “Yes of course I get commission. And you all said you would book with me.”

My girlfriend responded: “You told us to come back today and book, which we did. I’m sorry, we would have booked through you if we knew you received commission.”

He said: “Oh so now you are calling me a liar? Wow, Kelly, wow. So now I am a liar. I guess I am not pretty enough like the other girl here this morning. That girl does nothing all day and gets all the bookings. Foster does all the work around here and gets nothing. I gave you my number I don’t know why you didn’t call or text me.”

In reality, Foster took MY number and did not follow up with me.

Foster continued: “Some people appreciate me around here. I get tips like this all the time.” And proceeded to show my girlfriend a $100 bill. Completely unprofessional.

My girlfriend apologized once more and came to our room crying. It ruined our trip. He was completely unprofessional, unhinged, and mean. It was the worst customer service experience she had ever had. Who talks to customers that way? I...

I come down to Key West multiple times per year for both work and leisure. I also stay in hotel rooms at least 100 nights per year due to having a job that involves a lot of travel. I am an experienced traveler. So while this hotel has comfortable rooms, I wouldn't stay here again. The reasoning is two fold. Service: My toilet stopped refilling and so I couldn't flush it. I went to the reception area around 11am and no one was there. Waited awhile, no one came. Called via cell and left a voicemail with my issue (there are no phones in the rooms). Never heard back (yes, I left my cell number to call me back). Then when I did actually interact with a reception agent on Wednesday she was incredibly rude and didn't listen. Gave me the bill for a different room, then told me it was MY fault because I had told her the wrong room number. I know that I didn't AND I also told her the name on the room too. My last name is uncommon so I know it wasn't also listed on that room too. She just wasn't listening. Value: The $40 resort fee provides very little value compared to other area properties. At many properties the resort fee will include use of bikes, breakfast, daily activities, etc. First of all you have to pay extra to use the bikes here. But they include breakfast and a wine & cheese happy hour. Great right? The breakfast was just pre-packaged cereal, basic bread/pastry and hard boiled eggs. The "happy hour?" The cheapest brands of wine in a bucket with some random cheese. Why did I need to pay FORTY DOLLARS for that? They also said it includes the pool and hot tub....come on. That should be tied into the room rate. Parking is also an extra $30 per day for a lot they clearly own. It just felt like you were being nickel and dimed at every turn. So if none of the above matters to you...great! You'll love it here. The location is fabulous and rooms are decent. But I think there are multiple properties across Old Town that will serve...
