We did not stay here, but we did come for the couples dinner and it was FABULOUS!! The food was so good, the best food we have had since moving 3 years ago from the East Coast! We were visiting Lava Hot Springs for our 5 year wedding anniversary and saw the postcard advertisement for the Dine & Unwind package at The Harkness Hotel, the wonderful hotel we were staying at, and decided to call and see if we could just go for dinner, as we had already had massages that day. They had a reservation for 7 PM available, so my husband took it. He made our reservation and placed our entree order while I was in the shower, so I had no idea what he had ordered for me. When he later told me that he had ordered the Filet Mignon for himself and the seared Ahi Tuna for me, I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous. If you know anything about seared Ahi Tuna, you know it has to be very fresh or you have a very high risk of food poisoning, so you don't order it from just anywhere! I had never been to this place for dinner and I had no clue what I was getting myself into. Well, let me just say, I was more than pleasantly surprised!!! This was one of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life! My tuna was beyond good. My husband's filet was wonderful too. My husband and I know good food too! You would probably consider us foodies and we know how to cook as well. So we have very high standards. This place blew us away!!! Everything was made with such care and attention to detail. The meal started with a wonderful shrimp cocktail with a homemade cocktail sauce. No detail missed. The shrimp were fanned and the lemon wedge was seasoned. Then they brought out a salad with homemade ranch dressing and homemade croutons which were very good. They served the salad with homemade rolls and whipped fresh butter. The rolls were so good!! Then the main course came out. The entree that we each picked, serviced with the most amazing mashed potatoes and green beans. The plating of the food was wonderful and appealing to the eye. No detail was missed. For dessert they brought out homemade Crème Brule with a piece of chocolate made with cayenne pepper that popped in your mouth like pop rocks. It was so amazing and fun in your mouth, it brought you back to your childhood! The Crème Brule was delicious. They also served amazingly fresh coffee with the dessert, which in itself is wonderful because it is not easy to find really good coffee around this area. We were so satisfied by our meal and our greatest food expectations were fulfilled! The next time we go back to Lava Hot Springs, we know where we will be dinning for dinner. We also took some time to speak with the owners. They are some of the nicest genuine people you are ever going to meet. They are the kind of people you could just sit and talk to for hours on end. They told us about the manor and how they got started there. They let us look around the building. It is such a beautiful building. It used to be a LDS church. We really like this place and will, without a doubt, be back again! Thank you for the...
Read moreI would absolutely not recommend staying here to anyone. The room is good in size but doesn’t include a shower?! You share a shower with everyone else in the hallway.... I didn’t know I was paying this much to stay in a hostel! The staff were horrible at communicating. I got a receipt via email with no specifics on check in or check out time or codes for the door or which room was ours. We arrived at 7:30pm and no one was there to greet us. Luckily the door was still unlocked and our room door was labeled with my name. We got locked out later that night as the manager locked the door and no one provided us a code. I luckily got ahold of someone to give us the code, which honestly should have been in the welcome email. Could you imagine what would have happened if she didn’t answer her phone? It was snowing outside when we got locked out! The next morning we asked what time we should get out of the room so it could be cleaned. The woman who served breakfast told us 10:30 but when we asked if we should leave our key so they could get into the room to clean and another person looked at us like we were crazy and rudely told us that they don’t clean until we leave and then offered us new towels. They also have at least four cats that run around loose throughout the property. The cherry on top was finding a bug in our pillow the 2nd night. I would not ever recommend staying here! What an overpriced waste of money. We also had no way to control the heat in our room and a sink that was always clogged. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Go stay...
Read moreRomantic dinner, a perfect meal My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Sunday night 6pm. The first thing you'll notice is the quaint antique style of this B & B. We were a tiny bit confused as to where to go for dinner since we weren't guests staying at the Manor but one phone call and we figured it out. The dining area has only 6 tables, so reservations are limited. We tried for Monday but it was full, Sunday worked out perfectly, however, because it turns out we were the only dinner guests. You get an incredible 4 course meal for 2 for just $85 The appetizer was unusual, a bit too gourmet for me, but a more refined taste would really enjoy it. It was sliced beets with a honey mustard glaze, blue cheese and pumpkin seeds and a beet hummus with parmesan crisps. Next, the salad was strawberries and banana chips on leafy greens and a rice wine vinaigrette. The rice wine flavor wasn't too strong for me, but it was close. We selected the filet mignon and it was cooked so perfectly. It was served with sautéed zucchini and a butternut squash ravioli with a walnut glaze that was incredible. Finally, desert was a perfect cheesecake with raspberry and chocolate sauce. Oh heavens it was amazing. The atmosphere was just lovely and although we were the only ones dining, it didn't feel stark or lonely or awkward. Marion, our server was just the sweetest person and it was such a fun experience...
