The best part about the Edge Water R.V. Park/Resort is location. It is next to the Portneuf River and you can get out of the river with your tubes right at the campground, it is right next to the Lava Hot Springs swimming pool complex and you can walk back and forth, and finally it is a short convenient to walk to town. Also the people working at the campground were polite and helpful. The less desirable points are the camping sites are way over priced and they charge extra for each additional person over the base number (2) unless your kids are under 11 years, which is ridiculous considering the base fee is so high to begin with. There is a rest room and shower that goes with your fee, but it was so dirty I was disgusted when I went to use it. The shower is either Hot or Cold and complete with spiders, other bugs, and lots of dirt that has been there for quite some time. I'm pretty sure there was mold growing on the walls as well. They obviously need to do some cleaning and repair. The camp sites are very small and if you do not pay for what they consider a "super site" (which is about a normal size in most any-other camp ground) you will find yourself uncomfortably close to your neighbor. This campground is owned by the same people that own the KOA and since I did not go there I can't say if it would be any better or not, but I would be willing to give it a try. There are several other campgrounds in the area and I'm certain that when we go back we will check out alternatives. I would only stay here again if I absolutely could not find any...
Read moreWe chose this resort campground because of friends that have gone there and had such a wonderful time. it is close to the pullout point of the river, and to the swimming pool and to Main St. it is probably the most convenient place in town. there is a lot of upside about this part, it is big, it handles a lot of people, and that can also be its downside , it handles a lot of people. Weekends are just a zoo it is wall-to-wall trailer, tents, people, trucks, cars, whatever you can imagine, it is not that great on weekends but during the week it is awesome. The camp hosts are good to work with, you can rent tubes right on the spot there is a grocery store right around the corner and it is next to a river, lots of good going for it. There is a train track approximately a quarter of a mile away and trains run regularly on the route don't be surprised if you are awakened in the middle of the night hearing the whistles of a train. The bathroom and showers are nice they are a bit dated but they do keep them clean and it is wonderful to be able to shower and go to the bathroom outside of your trailer. The only problem I have with this RV resort is the price they charge if you want to place at tent on the spot you reserve. You can use the grass for anything personal that you want but the minute you put a tent up they charge you $25 that is ridiculous when it is in addition to the $50 approximately that we paid for one of the large RV pads. Overall I would highly recommend this RV camp to anyone traveling through or going to...
Read moreMy family has been using this campground for over 30 years. Plainly put, it's a dump. It's was taken over by "new management" about 3 years ago, but all they've really done is jack up the prices. However, there are limited options if you want to camp within Lava, it's not much worse than any other campground you'll find nearby and it's one of the cheapest. The pros of this campground are that it's right on the river, it's at a point on the river where you can get out if you are tubing the river and there is more shade here than a lot of the other campgrounds in Lava. The cons are it is only moderately maintained, the management doesn't always control the noisy and drunk people and the bathrooms are inadequate and completely, absolutely disgusting. Because of some supposed law banning any new construction on the property because it's a "flood zone" they can't or won't build decent bathrooms. So for a campground that can have over 200 people in it at any given time, they have 2 showers and 4 usable toilets for each gender! I think they could probably get permission, but use this as an excuse to not spend the money. So seriously consider other options if you aren't bringing your own bathroom. The staff varies from friendly and helpful to rude and nasty, depending on who you get. They are pretty much indifferent to most complaints and if you stay here on the weekend, keep the number for Bannock County Sheriff on hand; this is the only help you will get if you are dealing with drunk and...
