My husband, 7 month old and I recently went to stay at the Lava Hot Springs Inn and if we could give this place 0 stars we would. Before I write this long review I’ll just say, do not stay here!! And if you do, do not sign the consent from before viewing the room!! We were very excited to stay here considering you have usage of the hot springs and the hotel seemed like a historical land mark. We opted for the room with its own bathroom considering we have a 7 month old and wanted some privacy. We paid $189 for this room mind you, as we entered the room we realized that it actually only had a jacuzzi tub as way to bathe yourself. This was not the problem. The problem was the state of this room. Stains on the floor, looked like this carpet hasnt been cleaned in years. The tub was disgusting. The bedding was old and stained. And the cherry on top the toilet was broken and when my husband went to fix it he noticed that there was black mold on the inside of the toilet. To preface we are not the type of people to complain or make a scene, I even thought of sucking it up and staying there to just not be confrontational. However, the longer I sat in this room the worse it got. Our 7 month is crawling around and I didn’t even want her in the floor of this place. We were the in the room no longer than 10 minutes til we went back down to talk to the front desk about getting a refund. She informed us that there is no refunds and offered us another room. We decided to go up and check out the other room in hopes it was better. However, it was a tad nicer but still not $189 worth or up to any health code. She informed us she has no authority to give us a refund and that the consent form we signed stated that it is a non refundable stay. However, given the circumstances we were hoping we could plead our case to the manager. After almost a week of no contact, and us calling almost every day to speak to someone about a refund we finally were able to get ahold of a manger. The manager was very nice and again WE ARENT THESE PEOPLE, we hate confrontation. But $189 is a lot of money to lose out on especially with a baby. He explained that he talked to the owners personally and the owners WILL NOT give us a refund and offered us a gift card. Respectfully I will never step foot in this place ever again, not sure what a gift card would do for us and the kicker is it would expire in a year😆. He also explained that if we dispute it with your bank that they have dealt with this A LOT and typically they just send over the consent form that you sign BEFORE you see the rooms and the bank declines the dispute. Just want to warn everyone that this place is a scam and the owners are scammers and do not care about the state of their property or their rooms. This is the most expensive hotel option in this town and looks worse than a rundown motel 6. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody, because it literally is so disgusting it should be shut down. If you are looking for a hotel in this town don’t waste your time here, we stayed at the Blue Jay Inn and not only is it clean and welcoming but the owner was extremely nice and accommodating. Not to mention it was $130 a night for a king suite WITH a kitchenette, shower, a working toilet and no black mold!

Upon arriving the front desk clerk sent me packing all my luggage up to the 3rd floor only to be confused by my room's location - and then sent me packing down the stairs with my belongings- never asking if he might help carrying these items due to his error, instead he laughed and said his mistake. When walking into the "king suite" I quickly realized that the Inn had not removed the cooling unit from the window and noticed they placed a thin white towel around it. I was apprehensive about staying as it was forecasted to be the coldest night this winter. But then the bugs became more of an issue than the cold. They were everywhere. I had my travel companion chasing bugs All Night Long. At one point I threw my hands up in the air and said I'm not going to let my attitude kill the adventure, and said this'll just be a "really expensive camping trip". About 930pm we had walked back from dinner and noticed what seemed to be the hundreds of children in the pools so we retired back to our suite for personal soaking. Not 20 minutes later I had a man unlocking my room with a key, no knocking, no voicing his arrival - NO NOTICE - he opened the door and my travel companion had to yell to get him to realize there was no place for him there! He shuffled off - no apology AND didn't lock the door behind him, he didn't even shut the door behind him. So my naked and afraid self got out from underneath the thin sheet I grabbed for modesty and immediately got dressed and decided that the stay was complete bullcrap and contemplated driving home. Thru the canyons in the snow storm, sigh. I left the hotel for a few minutes so unhappy with the situation I had just encountered. The guy working the desk explained to my partner that he had a drunk patron insisting our room was his and he should have checked the registrant list. In my opinion he should have used common sense! He saw us coming and going for hours, gave us dinner suggestions, he knew VERY WELL there were no men in our travel party!!!!!!! 2 women traveling alone should never have to worry their safety is questionable by the hotel staff itself! I'm mortified anyone that's trying to take in a relaxing weekend will stay at this hole in the wall dump! Management sent me a gift certificate for the suite cost after explaining her staff was junk & the stay was the exact opposite of what was expected & what she sold me on over the Tele. I advised her that staying again was a VERY LONG SHOT. I asked her if she'd return to a place she doesn't feel safe in & she couldn't answer. That tells me everything I need to know!

Business owners are SCAMMERS. Be aware they falsely advertise and do nothing to change their information so they can TAKE ADVANTAGE of peoples TRUST. Visited the Hot springs Inn and Spa for an overnight getaway with my wife. It was my first time staying as a hotel guest. I enjoy the pools here and like that they have a cold plunge pool as well. The hotel building has a lot of character and history, turning 100 years old this year. Unfortunately the pool temperatures vary each time I have visited. Not any temperature consistency the dozen plus time I have been there to soak over the last 4 years or even day to day. On this trip they had drained 3 of the five pools in the morning even though they say the pools open at 6 am . Therefore, there was no way to use these pools in the morning as they take many hours to refill. I don't understand why they don't drain the polls for cleaning at 11 pm when they close the pools for soaking in the evening. That way they would be full , cleaned and refreshed for the next morning. They have taken better care of the grounds and the pool surrounds in the last year , repairing the edges of the pools that were deteriorating. I believe they do the best they can with the limited employee resources they have in a town that has out-priced ( reality wise ) the locals that have lived there for decades. With most of the employees coming from the surrounding but kinda far away towns to provide the services the Hotel and Spa need to operate. The 3 star review is mainly for the untruthful advertising about the cottage room bed size and photos not of the actual room.

After reading ALL their reviews, I was honestly skeptical of coming here. I decided to give them a chance! My experience overall was good. THE ROOM: I booked the cottage. For me and my date, it offered much more seclusion and privacy. It's a separate unit with private bathroom. Most of their other accommodations are a hostel type stay with shared bathroom so keep that in mind, if that brothers you, then book the cottage like I did or call ahead and verify if your desired room selection has a private toliet or not. Our stay at the cottage was great. It was cleaned enough for us. We both enjoyed the vibes of the cottage. It was cozy and inviting and we'll equipped enough for our needs. The TV is EXTREMELY small so just know that. It does have cable and a DVD player and HDMI hookups. Please note that their actually is no Wi-Fi available for the cottage. The website and staff may tell you there is but both our phones and our Nintendo Switch could not find it. That didn't bother us tho, we used our hot spots. The Jacuzzi jet bath was big enough for both of us. However we are small humans. If you and your significant other are of a larger build, then you both won't fit comfortably. Overall, I would recommend the cottage. I myself, will definitely reserve it again! THE STAFF: Was nice to me. Informative, patient and pleasant. Friendly ladies if you're nice to them as well. I'm sure if you go in giving them attitude then they'll mirror your emotions. THE POOLS: Were fun. They were like normal hot springs. Nothing bad or nasty about them at all. The reviews that say "the springs were nasty" those people are dumb. I've been to some seriously gross hot springs. These ones are NOT gross. No complaints about the water. They have 8-9 pools to. Chose from. Ranging from too cold to want to get in all the way from too hot to want to get it. You'll find your desired temperature here. These Springs are not to get confused with the main Springs called world famous hot pools. Those Springs are extremely overcrowded and I won't go there again. The Springs here at Lava Hot Springs Inn and spa have much less people even on a weekend! It's was so nice to not have as many humans around us! Plus the Springs here you have unlimited entry you can come and go throughout the night and the next day during the morning before check out as you please. Versus the world's famous ones is a one-time entry only. Definitely recommend chodes these guy's pools! THE BREAKFAST: Stellar! I've stayed in several different hotels and no hotel has ever came close nor compared to. The kitchen ladies definitely put time energy and effort into making you fresh unique breakfast. There was many options. The eggs was like a scrambled omelette square that had fresh veggies inside. The potatoes were cooked just right and had good seasoning. They had a wide variety of fruit and breads. The ladies were nice enough to give me a to-go box to take to my date who is still sleeping. That was very kind. To anybody who is reading this review and other reviews trying to decide if they should stay here or not, my advice to you would be go and get your own feel for this place and make your own review I think you will enjoy it if you go there with an open mind. I strongly believe that the majority of people who have left detailed complaints are probably a higher class richer people that are very close minded and very high maintenance. Don't expect this place to be brand new and shiny and up-to-date modern because that is not what this place is. We went there knowing this place was going to be older knowing that it was going to be rustic and knowing that it was going to be small. And this place did not let us down. It...

This was an awful experience. We do Spring and Fall motorcycle rides every year. The Spring ride is usually our coldest and it was no different. We prepare for such things but we always enjoy getting to our hotel and taking a nice hot shower before we go to a local pub. We had the same expectation for this hotel however it was a complete nightmare. There were four of us staying in the room so we opted for the 170.00 room that said it had a bathroom (so we assumed a shower) and two rooms. We got there and were told that the room did not have a tub or a shower. We were pretty upset being tired after our ride that day and just wanted to get in the shower. We asked for some sort of compensation since we weren't told anywhere that we wouldn't have shower! The lady at the front desk said she couldn't do anything for us and we could just use the public showers and wouldn't look at us when she spoke. We finally asked if she could talk to someone. An older gentleman came and spoke with us and said the shower had been out of commission for twenty years (WHY DIDN"T THEY HAVE THIS IN THE ROOM DESCRIPTION?!) and that if we wanted to upgrade to their family apartment that we would have to compromise on price. We decided we would pay an extra $55 for the family apartment just so we could have the hot showers privately. We then found out it was off-site away from the hot springs, so now we would have to walk a block and a half back to hot springs. We did want to take advantage of the hot springs though since we were in Lava (three of us had never been there before) and then we all went home tuckered out. The next morning as we were getting ready to leave we went to turn on the shower and come to find out we didn't have ANY hot water. It never heated up. So, we had just paid $55 for literally absolutely nothing except having to walk an extra distance to the hot springs! When we went down to check out we overheard the people that had been below us blaming us for taking up all the hot water in that building!!! We were horrified. We explained we hadn't had any hot water while we were there either and just as disappointed. They even had the audacity to ask us why we didn't just tell someone. What? You don't treat guests like that. The lady (different from the night before, thank goodness) at the front desk said that she would see what could be done to refund our extra money since we did not even get the service we had requested. Come to find out when we got home that they didn't just charge us an extra $55, they charged us $78!! We seriously will never go back and have been telling everyone we can to not go. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel/motel. It completely ruined our first experience at Lava Hot Springs. I worked in the hotel industry for six years and the people I worked with would be horrified to hear how we were treated. This is NOT worth the stay, not even for the...
