Portneuf Rapids Tube Rental — Local services in Lava Hot Springs

Black Friday on steroids is how I would describe our experience at Lava last weekend. The shuttle system was out of control. Grown men and women completely lost their minds and all sense of common decency as they trampled each other to get their tubes onto the back of a trailer. At one point we were the first "in line" when the next shuttle pulled up and everyone swarmed like a pack of animals to get their tube on first. I thought my husband was going to be buried alive as people kept piling tubes on him. Not sure why they can't hire someone to manage boarding the shuttle and maintain some kind of order but until they do, I would recommend not going on a Saturday during peak season unless you're a glutton for punishment. The website claims they have convenient parking but we went back to our car and found a poor family trapped in the "parking lot" because a group of cars had parked and blocked a whole row of cars in. If this rental company isn't making enough money to hire some parking attendants, maybe they need to charge a little more. The river was fun, but if you don't want to experience the depravity of that shuttle, get your own driver to take you up the river or maybe try going...

Please update your website so that other families do not end up with the disappointment that mine had. The FAQ section states that you are open until dark with the last tube rental one hour prior. We arrived at 6:32ish on 6/19 to be told that you closed at 8 and that the last tube rental had been at 6 because the smallest package is 2 hours. Dark that night was 9. We had this planned as part of a family road trip and had been on the road for a long time, looking forward to this as a fun break from the car. Prices were fair at $49 for two single rafts for a half day. The river is narrow, and if you fall in it can be very hard to re adjust. The weekend is extremely busy and with the rugged rock bottom and sides the rafting is fairly strenuous. It was much nicer 10 years ago (when I was younger ) but the staff was very friendly.
