This restaurant almost ruined our first wedding anniversary. Beware! We purchased a fall getaway package from the Mimslyn Inn which included a $50 voucher to be used in their restaurant. The only one open during our stay was the speakeasy restaurant or the breakfast restaurant in the morning. We planned on going to The Speakeasy to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary (the reason for the fall getaway to The Mimslyn to begin with). They do not allow you to make reservations. This is where a major problem lies. You have to use the voucher there during your stay, yet you cannot plan ahead and make a reservation. You can spend your entire evening waiting your turn while they have empty tables that they are not seating people at, while claiming they have a “waitlist”. Cool. Also if you’re staying at the hotel, there’s no accommodations to be able to eat anything in your room. So we had brought our wedding cake topper to eat for dessert, since we were there for our first anniversary. Before I could even ask if we could have it there, I was scolded by a nasty, rude, and ill presented waitress. Who didn’t even offer to put us on the waitlist. We decided to go somewhere else, and I’m thankful we did. After further reviews, I have found people mentioned food was undercooked…being pregnant this is a major concern so beware! We didn’t actually get to eat their food, but from what I saw while waiting to speak with wait staff, it’s nothing special. We reported this horrible interaction with the receptionist at The Mimslyn and were sent to The Chop House where we had an amazing dinner, and were also allowed to have our wedding cake there! The Mimslyn Inn and The speakeasy need to work together to allow people to make reservations when they have a package that included a voucher so they do not cause such a problem. They also need to teach their employees how to interact politely with people. Also maybe they should anticipate accommodating special occasions as this hotel is advertised as a special occasion type place. Though I would...
Read moreNot for diners or foodies, this pub-esque revenue center at Luray's Mimslyn is in desperate need of a complete reset. Limited menu offering and those that exist are poorly executed.
On the server's recommendation, we tried three apps to start while we waited to see their dinner offerings, that apparently aren't even known to the staff until the manager prints the list at 5pm.
Had their deep fried oysters, which were decent. Ate their quesadilla served with sour cream and salsa - it was just passable. Unfortunately, we also tried their chicken wings, which were under-cooked, pink and bloody inside. Showed the server, who immediately recognized the under-cooked poultry, acknowledged the error, and started a re-fire.
Later, the re-fired wings arrived, Albeit ONCE AGAIN, under-cooked, pink, and bloody at the bone. REALLY...? How nice to come for “fine dining", only to arrive to poorly executed frat house fare, and twice be served, and bite into, under-cooked chicken. Hey cook! ...Ever heard of a probe thermometer? Or were you never trained?
But wait, there's more! After waiting 12 minutes for the server to return (no 2-minute, 2-bite check-back here, not even on a re-fire) we asked for both the check and the manager. When the "manager" arrived, she lead off by remarking, in the most condescending tone imaginable, "I hear you have an issue with your food." REALLY...? WOW! Though it was not easy, I resisted the urge to provide the response she really deserved. Subsequently, and only after my having to inquire as to whether she even bothered to get the facts before approaching our table, did she acknowledge that we were twice served under-cooked chicken.
We then paid for what we consumed, minus the bloody poultry, went to another Luray eatery (one with quality offerings) and spent $150 on a real meal.
Bottom line: We found the Speakeasy at Luray's Mimslyn Inn to be HUGELY DISAPPOINTING. If you're foodies, looking to dine,...
Read moreWe decided to enjoy a hot meal at the Speakeasy restaurant. After choosing the Cordan bleu and the wellington we noticedthe restaurant was not very busy After waiting 35 minutes, we received our dinners - sorta of. My wife's meal was correct but only barely warm and 4 tiny asaparagus that had endured a tough upbringing was one of the sides. The Irish would have been impressed with the amount of potatoes as the other side, although they lacked any character. My meal was an old airplane on the railroad tracks- it didn't resemble what I ordered. The first time it was not what I ordered and I was still waiting on the salad to come out. At this time, the people next to us got their dinners and got up and left! The salad came out. The second entree came out cold and alone with no supporting vegetables. At this time, I called the waiter over and asked for the manager. She was busy with another issue and came over shortly. I explained my issues. She apologized and said they were having issues with the kitchen. She offered to get me something else from the kitchen and I declined as I didn't wish to wait another 45 minutes for more culinary surprises. She said she hoped we would try them again and I responded not after finding our hotel's rooms bathroom with other peoples hair on the floor and dirty. She comped our experience. It's odd to leave a restaurant hungrier than you went in! Time wasted...
