Hampton Inn Minneapolis NW Maple Grove — Hotel in Maple Grove

Incredibly noisy, impossible to get any sleep. I always bring ear plugs but they were of no help. At 10 pm, I could hear voices from next door room as if there was no wall. I could even hear the guests snore when they finally shut up. The walls are paper thin. My room was facing the freeway and traffic noise the whole night was super loud. At 4 am, sudden loud noise from the bathroom almost gave me a heart attack. Probably the neighbors using the toilet but it sounded like tsunami (again, this is with ear plugs). At 6 am, the alarm started blasting from the alarm clock. I didn’t set it and didn’t need to get up till 7. It looks like the alarm clock remembers the alarm when it’s set once. Really bad choice of the clock model for the hotel IMHO.

The air in the room was very stuffy. It was moderate weather outside (in October) and neither heat nor AC was needed. I left the fan running while we went out for dinner but when I got back, the air wasn’t fresh and felt muggy, as if no AC in summer. Upon closer look, the vent in AC unit was quite dirty.

The breakfast was typical for Hampton Inn but coffee needed to be carried from the lobby area into the breakfast area, over 2-3 stair steps. Not a big deal but would be nice if coffee was closer to the breakfast food. Also no Splenda by the coffee or in the room but a few packets were randomly hidden among the condiments. Gluey barely warm oatmeal was a bummer. Unripe bananas and red “delicious” apples were the only fresh fruit items. Cheap yogurt full of preservatives. Pretty bad coffee.

On a positive note, staff were very nice and accommodating, there were free cookies in the evening and excellent selection of teas. Mattress was comfortable. Good water pressure, nice toiletries (although I got only few drops of hair conditioner). Very nice scented body lotion. Water fountain and water bottle refill station in the lobby.

If you have to stay here, make sure to ask for the room that is not facing...

In the case of being under unprecedented circumstances (A missing campus shuttle and no means of transportation or shelter overnight). I was very perplexed in how to truly review my experience. I didn't get a chance to even get to the hotel because I was denied access due to my age. I am 19, I was informed that all I needed was to be 18 and have a credit card which I possess. My reservation service was amazing. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the one who helped me but he was very helpful and patient with me despite not knowing the full capacity of what I was dealing with. In contrast to when I was transferred over to the shuttle service. I was relieved with a short attitude. I could barely get a word in and I was dismissed without an actual explanation other than "You're not 21". My reservation that I had just bought was then canceled. I did not fight or argue over the matter since I was trying not to be "that" customer over the phone however, if your business is promoting "all you need to reserve: age must be above 18 and have a credit card" and I get told that I can't because of my age. That is false advertising. My hopes of not being stranded at the airport were dashed. And before anyone wants to say that it was my fault, let me state that I was early and the shuttle I previously paid for to take me to campus never arrived. Staying the night at a hotel was my last hope and I wasn't able to do that because of false advertising. I was let down and terrified. Now this is not to bash anyone. We stayed July 13th-July 17th during the USA Cup in Blaine. The room was clean upon our check in. The staff was polite and pool area was nice and clean. Where the 1-star rating comes in is the poor communication amongst the staff and room cleaning. We were not notified upon checking in that we needed to notify the front desk to have our room cleaned due to reduced staff. I found this out during our 2nd night. I called the front desk and stated to have room 203 cleaned. The desk receptionist said a clean towel could be picked up at the front desk. Day 3 came and went with no cleaning, this time I asked the day manager to have room 203 cleaned. I was upset as our room had garbage over the coarse of 3 days not cleaned up, beds not made, and dirty towels not cleaned up. After being away for soccer coming back to a dirty room is the last thing you want. Day 4, room still not cleaned. My wife talked to the front desk and let them know the room was a mess. We were charged full price for service that was sub par, no cleaning of the room, and service that was never provided.

I would be cautious if staying as your room may not be cleaned during your stay.
