They call themselves a Patisserie. They are a genuine Patisserie. I've been to Paris and other European cities, and European style cities this side of the Pond like Toronto, and 231 stands up.

Delightful sticky bun. Got a triple or quadruple espresso, plenty strong, delicious flavor, not bitter, absolutely perfect. Had a breakfast burrito, plenty of flavor and a nice balance of flavors, touch of heat and serves with Cholula to adjust to your preference and it all worked well. Also, it's been like 20 minutes since consuming it and it's sitting well.

Music is on point, really nice mix of jazz and folk and a few other things. Came here to write and read and such, music really helped me come in and out of focus, which sometimes I have difficulty doing, so, 10 bonus points for music.

Had light conversations with other patrons as I spent the morning here, very friendly.

Artwork is fabulous. Above the register is the silliest print: two old school robots on the Golden Gate bridge, one has just jumped and slammed down, causing the bridge to buckle like a child's playground and launching the other robot up. It's just silly. Meanwhile, in the seating area, you've got Batman brushing his teeth, a bunch of colorful astronaut prints, and a breathtaking woman in a dress who is also sewing her own dress and the darn light switch (like, the actual light switch) is painted to match and from across the room I legit can't tell if it's a real light switch or just part of the print.

Lighting is right. Not too much, so, if you haven't had coffee yet, you're not getting assaulted, but plenty of light to...

I've been here a couple times, so my rating is overall.

I've enjoyed my menu selection each time, taste tester of all things sweets. I can't recall what I got last time but I remember thinking it was good but nothing to write home about.

This time I tried 4 different macarons (mixed berry, Peanutbutter -chocolate , cookie monster, and espresso) and thoroughly enjoyed each. It's always difficult to find a place that can execute the macaron texture and flavor, these hit the bar for both! (Especially when directly compared to the shop just a couple doors down.) This is also saying something b/c I actually didn't end up eating them in the same day, in fact they sat down a couple of days but were still thoroughly enjoyable!

I also tried a chocolate mouse/cheesecake layered dessert (can't remember the name of it), but it was also good, rich & flavorful.

The staff are always quick and kind. The atmosphere itself is kind of stark. Clean but stark, I personally don't feel a warm welcome comforting feel so I've always opted to take my goodies to go and enjoy down...

Friendly staff, great vibe, a really cool place to chill or study. Had a pumpkin cookie layered with a Carmel cream top as well as a Carmel apple macron, I hate to say it but both were nothing special. Pumpkin cookie was a little off on the base flavor and didn't have a very appealing texture...Carmel top was nice but the whole thing definitely needed a better texture to carry the flavor, the edges were a little more done and had alot better texture, I think the cookie would have been moons better if made flat like a traditional cookie to provide that nice chew. As for the macron... it was a sad call at Carmel apple. I had high hopes but it had a very prominent and weirdly stale taste to it, texture was there but your average frozen variety will knock your socks off in flavor comparison. Take this with a grain of salt of course as I have heard many good reviews of their pastrys so I may have just got a...

A fun small bakery with a decent selection of pastries. We got there later in the day after dinner, so I’m sure there’s typically a better selection. The white chocolate dessert was delicious! A great balance of sweet and tart. We found the flavor options of macaroons to be a little unadventurous. And some of the more adventurous options weren’t all that good. Our favorite was the fig! Overall they seemed to have a lot of nice space for patrons to eat, work, or hang out with others. This was definitely a place I didn’t see being in the UP but Marquette is a great spot for it.
