Slabz is considered an upscale restaurant in the Ramada hotel. Their offerings on the menu were plenty and diverse enough you can find something you like.
We were traveling across the country and wanted to try a little bit of everything. We started out with a salad and ordered it without olives. Took a bite and almost spit out the food. Plenty of olives hiding in the leaves. I was surprised by that error. Had it been an allergy, I’d be off to hospital.
The oysters were briny and delicious but we were surprised they didn’t include any horseradish. Fortunately, they had it available once we requested it. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make it perfect.
Next were the trout bites. Battered and deep fried little nuggets of fish. They were ok, but nothing special. I didn’t taste any seasoning it in or maybe that was their intent. For $17.00, I wouldn’t get them again.
Then came our main dish, the 3 lbs trout, and entire reason why we chose this restaurant. It was glorious! It was filleted in half and drizzled with balsamic vinegar, I believe, and topped with microgreens. The fish was very moist and tasty. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the fish. However, be forewarned that it is NOT deboned so I hope you are ready to pick dozens of bones out with your fingers. I’m used to it but some folks may not enjoy playing with their food and debone as you eat.
Our server was the sweetest young lady who was so friendly and charming. She said she was new and sadly, it showed. Having waited tables myself for many years, you should have the basics down like get the order correct, refill the water glass, clear the dirty plates after eating and get customers their to-go containers and bag in timely manner. None of that happened at our table. Hopefully in time, she’ll improve and be properly trained. Since she was so pleasant and a good conversationist, we tipped generously even if the service was lacking. Overall, we would return if ever back...
Read moreNot the best experience. Multiple items we ordered were not available and the waitress forgot multiple parts of our order. I wanted to try this new restaurant for my birthday so my husband obliged. He ordered a beer from their list. The nice waitress came back and said they didn't have it so he ordered a different one. He then ordered Two Hearted Trout Sliders because they were shown on a TV6 news show about the restaurant. The waitress came back and said they also did not have that as well. He gave up being creative and ordered Buffalo style chicken wings first confirming with the waitress that they had blue cheese dressing (he only likes buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing, being from buffalo). I ordered whitefish ravioli and brussel sprouts. My husband had mentioned that we were there for my birthday to the waitress and I was offered a free dessert, which I ordered. When the food came, again we were let down when the waitress informed us that they indeed did not have blue cheese dressing and had brought ranch with some blue cheese crumbles on the side. She offered a free beer in compensation. She forgot the brussel sprouts which we had to request again. The whitefish ravioli and whitefish dip were too fishy for me. Whitefish is known to be not fishy and I actually love the whitefish dip at the crossroads. The sauce on the whitefish ravioli was pretty good though. The brussel sprouts were excellent. My Gitchy Goomy drink was tasty. The wings were more similar to BBQ rather than buffalo. The bill came and dessert was never delivered. I didn't bother mentioning it, I'm sure it would have been good though. The only way to mess up dessert is to not bring it to someone. It was a disappointing birthday dinner and first...
Read moreShould be a 6! We're there late the night before University classes start in the morning so it was empty. This is the restaurant inside the ramada and parking was easy but were told it can get full We were in camp casual, which is to say that some of our shirts had writing in them. I tried to find pictures of the clientele, but the only pictures were of the food which I appreciate. I feel creepy looking at people online. (Rob? ) took care of us and David checked on us. Both men delightful and competent. Fish and chips- fish excellent. A tad too much salt on the fries for my palate tonight. French onion soup was amazing. Really couldn't have been better. Raviolo is singular for ravioli. So this is a big one in a sauce. Some guests say the sauce is too sweet. (We don't.) It comes with a pile of Pecorino but that needs scattered or the sauce needs a teensy bit of salt. Royale burger was amazing. The potato chips are SPECTACULAR. They bring them with a whitefish pate for an amuse bouche and I stayed with them rather than getting fries. Good call! Pot du creme was wicked. We had nuts caramel, and blueberries on the side because we're all different picky sweet-eaters. The caramel sauce was amazing. (Warning-it has Amoretto in it if you hate fake almond flavor ( benzaldehyde) like I do.) The whipped cream could use a touch of salt or sugar. Maybe vanilla? Something to bring the flavor of the cream out more, I think. It was still really good! I'd get it again. Finally, the Blondie cookie was To Die For. Sorry I was too full to finish it. I highly recommend this place. All is local, fresh, perfectly prepared, and prettily plated. Don't really think you could go wrong here. Bill was just over $200 but that...
