My wife and I (age 70 walking with a cane) stayed a week at the Hilton Vacation Club in May, 2025 for our 30th wedding anniversary. We thoughly enjoyed the experience. Our observations.||Uber. We used Uber 10 times during our trip. Response times were a good 5-10 minutes, except the last one. The response time going back to the airport was nearly an hour. We had been warned by a kind driver about that response time so we factored that into our departure time. Uber cost $70 and 45 minutes for the trip to or from the airport. We did not rent a car. That scary crowded two lane drive along the cliffs around the mountain to and from the airport was too much for us.||Eating Options. Hilton acquired this property when it purchased Diamond Resorts three years ago. They are actively working on increasing the food options. A very good breakfast buffet for $24.95 was offered from Saturday through Wednesday: eggs, bacon sausage, fried rice, potatoes, pastries, French toast, coffee juices and fruit, etc. No cereal or oatmeal for kids however. You did not have to eat a full buffet breakfast. You could order individual breakfast items too, The Hilton had nightly specials, including prime rib, BBQ ribs & chicken teriyaki on various nights. The large portion chicken teriyaki and beef with vegetables was great. You could buy pizza and good size chicken wings all day. The food could be served in a to-go box or on a plate. We loved sitting down eating at the tables in the bar overlooking the pool area. We loved the all-day smoothies. Three days we ate at the very nice Beach Club Restaurant right next door just a few steps along the beach walkway past the gas grills at the Astor resort. We ate large portion omelets and shrimp fettuccine there. They have great ocean views there. We also took Uber to both the beachside Hula Grill and Duke’s Beach House for dinner along the beach at sunset. The food and experience were very nice. With all the food options and the snacks, souvenirs, health care products, and supplies available at the Hilton Gift Shop, we found it unnecessary to go to the grocery store across the street or to the Safeway down the street.||Luau. We took Uber to and from the Mai Nui Luau at the Sheraton mid-week. The 3-hour show was awesome and the food was good but not great. More seasoning was needed. I loved the purple sweet potatoes. The Sheraton arranged for a golf cart to drive us to and from the luau. We did not have to wait in line. We were allowed to sit down. We booked preference seating a month in advance and were seated at table 1. You are seated according to your booking date. We were able to take some great pictures with our IPhone. There is no reason not to book in advance since you cancel up until 24 hour in advance at all luaus. The Sheraton luau is not for persons in wheelchairs or with serous mobility problems because it is on the lawn and is self-served. Also there were no kid friendly foods on the luau. A 7 year picky eating girl seated next to me was not very happy that there were no kid friendly foods. We later cancelled a cruise luau for the weekend because we found out that it was self-serve without enough seating options. There are a lot of luaus. Do your research.| |Pool/Balcony. We Stayed in the Ohana (family) wing in an 800 square foot one bedroom ocean view suite. We had shade covering the balcony after 12 noon. Nearly one-third of the pool area is shaded in the morning hours. The shade slowly recedes until the pool area is in full sun after 12 noon. Soft Hawaiian music is played in the pool area, Also on several days around 5 pm a musician played live music on the bar area overlooking the pool.||Maui Craft Fair (open only on Sundays). We took Uber to and from the Maui Craft Fair just down the street in Lahaina. It is small but we were able to buy souvenir shirts, coconut bowls and magnets. The big craft show on Saturdays near the airport was too far away. Prices were high: $25 T-shirts. $45 Hawaiian shirts.||Problems. The Spectrum cable TV service was out the last two days we were at the Hilton. We used the Spectrum TV app on our IPhone to continue to see & hear our TV programs. It would have been nice if the Hilton had provided free DVD movie rentals while the TV was out. You could rent movies at the gift shop for $4. The TV problem along with the fact that the pool heater was out a couple of days prevents us from giving our experience a five...
Read moreGlad to be back home! I was excited to go on vacation and it was a long time coming considering Covid came along 18 months ago but I was happier to get home from vacation. Please read my review of the Royal Lahaina Resort because this is where Diamond placed us. I bought a sampler package and was told that I could use the package in all types of ways but when I tried to use it, I was told that I could not use it because my contract does not permit me to do other vacations with cash. Because of the pandemic I had to pay an additional cost because my expiration date was near. I was given 10 months to book my two trips which I did just to get it out of the way. This wasn’t my first time to Hawaii but my first time to Maui. Maui is a beautiful place and my stay would have been better if my accommodation had been better. I attended the timeshare presentation where we were pressured to buy a timeshare and offered to receive my original sampler payment back but only to go towards a down payment towards a plan. When we bought the sampler almost three years ago, we were both in good health. Within the past 90 days we had bad news regarding my wife’s health and making a financial purchase wasn’t feasible at the moment because we were not sure if she would be able to travel again after treatment. Not being considerate of us when we showed that we are in need of a transplant, the salesman kept pushing us to give him three vacations we are planning on taking within the next year. He simply didn’t want to hear us anymore and tried to sell us something. His manager tried to sell us something and lastly this guy tried to sell us something. They act like they care but what we say went in one ear and out of the other ear. Our experience is considerably less stringent than the owner's experience and moderate when compared to others who had purchased a sampler package. KEY POINT – We were given a tour of the property which appears to be very nice from the eye. Although we spent about $2,500 for the sampler package and paid additional fees to book a trip, we were not good enough to be given a room at the diamond resort property. We were given a room with stains in the carpet, an outdated room, a mini refrigerator in the bathroom closet, no microwave and had to walk halfway across the property to get ice from an ice machine that was outside. If I was weak enough to fall for the sales pitch, I too would be a victim. My best advice is to stay away and do not buy something that you will never physically own. Buy a house instead.
Good luck to all who...
Read moreRooms were still dirty when we checked in. The floors were dirty. It was like an 8 year old cleaned the floors. Dirt was still collected under the furniture and in the corners. The rest of the bare floor looked like they just did a quick swoosh. Carpet still had dirt on it and dirt stains like they don't shampoo them. The arms of the couch & chairs also had built up dirt stains. Staff were not very friendly & didn't follow through with booking excursions. Make sure to contact them & double check. It would be a good idea to get the contact information of the company they book you through so you can follow up to make sure you are booked for the day & time you expect. We asked to have housekeeping re-clean the dirty floors. Was told our cleaning day was Wednesday based off our stay & asked if we wanted to use the regular cleaning day on the current day (Sunday). I then asked if we could at least use a broom & dust pan to clean the floor ourselves. They said "Oh sure, you want me to put the order in?" They gave us the splee as though we were at fault for not reporting it on Friday (the day we checked in). The Front desk staff then got on the phone with housekeeping & we could hear enough to know the staff on the other end was complaining about it. When the guy came to our room to clean the floor, he was very rude, would not look us in the eye & asked where he needed to clean (as though the work order didn't explain what needed to be cleaned). He just did a couple swooshes with a dry mop (just pushing the dirt around) and took about three swipes with the vacuum on the area rug and left. Didn't ask if that was good or anything, just left.
When we went to the TimeShare splee, the salesman was polite but the second guy they brought in after we said no not at this time, was very rude. He basically called us liers and walked away.
I couldn't stand it when your in the elevator making chit chat and the second thing out of their mouths is "Are you Members?" Only members would ask a question like that. When we told them "no" that seemed to abruptly end the conversation. I wouldn't want to be a member of a place that treats others like that. TERRIBLE!
When we got to our room on Friday, we tried to watch TV as we settled in but, couldn't get it to work. There were no instructions or anything explaining the accommodations. We later learned the cable was out throughout the building & they had no ETA. Why couldn't the Front Desk Staff be made aware of these things & inform the guests when...
