I am new to area due to work, so on last Wednesday my bestfriend took me to Spoons for lunch. We were so excited, we had already looked over the menu and read the WONDERFUL reviews, and my bestie was just excited about showing me that McKinney square. Well, I must say out of my 46 years of life i've never experienced what I experienced on this day at a restaurant. We walked in and i'm not not sure if this restaurant welcomes all races of people i'm ( Afro American & Creole)but I was with my bestie who is caucasian, we entered and I stood there after reading the sign my friend sort of walked past the sign but not walking to a seat. We were then approached by a hostess who first never greeted us she had an attitude with us but she was looking at me the whole time. Now mind you i'm dressed very nicely I have my medical badge on but that ment nothing lol. So she proceeds to ask "Do you have a to go order!" I said no we are eating in, she said "look its space in an area thats right down from our building you can go there we try to help them out they have the same menu." Ok, the restaurant WASN'T full, I was totally confused she lead my friend out of the door and pointed to some blue umbrellas and said "just go there and they can take care of you." Still confused on what had just taken place we walk down to the umbrellas and its a garage type area with a bar, very hot inside so hot that I asked the waiter why we were directed there and he stated "I'm not sure ma'am unless you asked, we have the same menu but you definitely could have eaten there". Well at this point i felt as if I had taken a trip back to the 60's and i felt very disturbed and displeased and annoyed at what took place at Spoons Cafe. We ended up going to the pizza place right across from the garage area the hostess had sent us to and first off the Pizza place was very cool inside and the service was AWESOME. It really embrraced me in front of my friend because we watched others who were either Caucasian and even Asian which I have both Ethnicities in my family walk in and be seated. So I called, and I spoke first with a very sweet young lady who wasn't a Manager but did apologize and wanted to get a Manager for me to speak to. The Manager who also was a Caucasian female did take the phone but in no way apologized for what happened or even took to consideration how this looked to us or how it made us feel. She was very cold and unfriendly, but I stayed very professional but honest to my truth. I must say this exsperence was hurtful but very eye opening. I will go back to Spoons Cafe I said, I wouldn't return because i felt totally discriminated against but I definitely will return, will I feel nervous about my food order yes lol but I pray over everything. See the behavior we received from the hostess and the manager I won't allow that type ugliness and ignorance to win. Again I'm new to the area so yes you will definitely see me again and again. I would like to thank the young lady who took my call at first, that young lady I know wasn't a Manager but her customer service skills ran circles around the Manager I spoke to and the Hostess that that totally disrespected my friend and I. Had we been given a choice I would have understood that but we weren't . You ( Ms. Hostess)took a greatly anticipated lunch date with my friend in a new city, and turned it into a very hurtful and...
Read moreWow, where do I start? Between the horrible service and overpriced mediocre food, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. My fiancé and I brought Our newborn son there to eat this afternoon and when we were 2 feet away from walking in the front door and waitress walked out. She noticed I was pushing a baby stroller and didn’t even hold the door open. She just let It close right in front of me, inches away from the stroller, without a care in the world. What a great way to start off our experience. I started off with a Bloody Mary, which was literally the only reason we ended up trying out this place. (We couldn’t find another breakfast place that served bloody Mary’s) the Bloody Mary turned out to be in an EXTREMELY small glass (almost a laughable size for being a $9 drink) was filled with ice and barely any drink. The taste was nothing to brag about or compliment in any way. Even the straw was so much bigger than the glass, It was like It was trying to tell you the drink should’ve been bigger ha When the waitress asked if I wanted another one after I finished It in less than 2 minutes I said not a chance, that is way too small of a drink to be $9. The waitress got an attitude and told me to “listen up, customers complain even if it’s in a bigger glads with more drink in It” ….Ummmm no I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a customer complaint about receiving a larger drink. we wanted to leave at that point but we were already so hungry. I ordered The chicken salad sandwich and It was subpar at best. In all honesty I would recommend the chicken salad sandwich at Arby’s. It tastes better, there’s more grapes in It and it’s $2 cheaper. You also don’t have to wait over 35 minutes for the better sandwich at Arby’s. I dont Understand how this place had as many customers as they did while we were there today. Everything was overpriced and accommodated with a bad attitude. Even my meal came out looking like It was served from a food truck. I dont...
Read moreOur family had bad experiences with service and the food here over four years ago and decided to stop spending our money here. Given the recent reviews we thought we’d go out on a limb and give it another try tonight. Everyone (and we have 3 picky teen/tweens) was excited about the menu and ordered. The restaurant was half full and we were seated right away. The server was great, very attentive and the food came in a reasonable time. It was mediocre but we had a great time and were okay paying the overpriced check because we were out for the first time in a while and it was generally nice. I signed the check, left a 20% tip, wrapped the pen around the check and put it on top of the condiments in the middle of the messy table.
I walked out with my children to my car a few feet away, my husband had walked to another store and was not present, and as I was trying to help them in the car I was confronted by a female employee who accused me of leaving with the receipt. I asked for clarification because I wasn’t sure she was talking to me and she aggressively accused me of taking the receipt and not tipping. As a former server and restaurant manager, this was shocking behavior. I explained with preciseness where the receipt was and she turned around while saying “sure it is”. I’m there alone with my kids and she accuses me of bailing on my check - without even looking at the table to see if it was there. I followed her to show the server, who is not at all at fault for this person’s ridiculous behavior, and picked up the receipt off the table to physically hand it to him. She was a manager.
This woman ruined my family’s evening, insulted me in front of my children - all for nothing. She could have looked at the table herself to see if the check was on it, but she didn’t. Clearly the management here is lacking and not at all worth the +$100 we spent for burgers and pancakes. We...
