Stay away! Owner is only interested in making money, not guest comfort! Apparently he owns the whole block with all the restaurants, and pushes early guests out into the street because there is NO LOBBY!
We arrived early, and had to drive around the block twice to find the place. It's NOT ON THE MAIN ROAD, but on a closed street, which is very confusing for Lyft and Uber drivers. Our rooms weren't ready, which is understandable at our 9:30 am arrival. Front Since NO LOBBY was offered and all the restaurants were closed at that time, we had to wander the streets for hours.
Our friends arrived at 2pm, and again NO LOBBY was offered, instead , we had to sit outside on the El Paseo Hotel owners little Monopoly of restaurants spending money to sit there.
After checking in, and signing off to a myriad of hidden charges (35 day for valet parking although WE DID NOT HAVE A CAR,) Finally the room were ready and at that time, we were told about the "Wine Hour" up in the "Library".
Imagine our surprise when we went to the "library" upstairs, to discover a cozy room, with bookshelves, a coffee maker and a nice veranda that overlooked the very restaurants we'd be forced to sit at ALL AFTERNOON.
NO ELEVATOR. We lugged our suitcases up to the 2nd floor, to discover a small CRAMPED DARK ROOM located in the BACK OF THE HOTEL. It was a cross between a hospital room and military' barracks. The view of a parking lot and an overgrown palm tree.
NO DRESSER OR DRAWERS TO UNPACK. ONLY NARROW BOOK SHELVES.
When we asked for a room with a view (after checking the website for availability, which they had) we were told, NO. We said we would like a view, since the price is the same, and were told it would be noisy if we got a balcony. We understood that but only wanted a decent window view instead of a dark "courtyard".!
OUR KEYCARDS DIDN'T WORK! Yet another fiasco. I had booked the two rooms and they told us all the key cards were for one room, not the other? Who does that? The key cards in our folder should have been set to the room were were in, not the other room our friends were in.
Our friends flew in from Denver, leaving at midnight, and arrived at 2, exhausted. They had to stay outside too until the rooms were ready. When they finally got into their room, the landscapers were having a great time yelling over the leaf blowers, which was directly outside the small window.
I said we didn't have a car, so I do not want to get charged for the $35/day valet parking, so we shall see if I was charged when we check out. Haven't tried the beach yet, this should be another disappointing experience based on what has transpired so far.
Complaining did nothing, asking for a room change did nothing, being nice did nothing, getting angry did nothing. THEY SIMPLY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE COMFORT OF THEIR GUESTS.
NEVER STAY HERE! RUN AWAY TO BETTER HOTELS...
Read moreHonestly, it was fine to stay here but I wouldn't come back. The pro, at least it was clean.
Everyone complains about the noise but it's next level. The restaurant below is SO loud and open late into the night. The windows and doors have no sound proofing. It's not even just the restaurant, the doors to the other rooms are ridiculously loud as they open and close. The check in process was a nightmare, there is no one there and they don't answer their messages promptly. We had issues with our rooms and it took 24 hours for maintenance to even help us. The doors to the buildings dont close properly, so there goes any additional security on a busy street. So many other travellers came in super confused on how to check in. No baggage area if you arrive early. The rooms are all damp so everything feels wet. Our bathroom door barely closed and the shower made a high pitch noise when it was on. They don't have curtains in the room and at night it's like you're sleeping with a lit up billboard out your window, it's so bright. Oh, and there's no tv channels, just chromecast. So you can literally turn on and off other peoples tvs around you. We would try and watch something and it would constantly get turned off.
And when we stayed there, there was a womans luggage that somehow got left at the front gate and the company never moved it to a safe space, it got ripped apart by homeless people, this woman's private clothing and purse was laying all over the front entry. When we told them it made us uncomfortable and to clean it up they just suggested it was a homeless persons stuff, meanwhile it was filled with clothes like high heels (clearly a traveller) and her name was on the luggage. It was so offensive that they were fine with a womans private belongings being pillaged infront of the hotel.
Finally, the lack of common area sucks because the rooms are small. So if the weather is bad your options are to go out somewhere that you have to pay to be at, or lay...
Read moreA nice budget hotel that delivered what we needed. We stayed for 4 nights and later travelled elsewhere in Miami and Florida. I wouldn’t recommend a stay beyond that length as you probably do need the room servicing at that point.||Location - very good located on a busy street with several restaurants and bars, but that does have some drawbacks in terms of noise. However, the street appeared to close down from between midnight/12.30am every night. A 5 minute walk to the beach/Ocean Drive or the shops in the other direction. There is a bus stop very close by that can take you further afield. Ubers are also in good supply and relatively cheap.||Room - generally clean and tidy. The furniture could be updated but nothing more than some scuff marks or chips. Shower didn’t get extremely hot but was warm enough for a shower. Ample towels and toilet paper for our stay and understand you can access additional resources if needed in Building One.||We actually enjoyed the lack of a staff presence. No unnecessary hassle and you could access anything you need.||We found it easy to follow the instructions to access the room with the keypads and this actually felt quite secure as opposed to a hotel with free access.||Although, whilst we didn’t have any issues with this I can imagine if the keypads failed for any reason (or any other issue with your room) this would be a challenge to resolve with no staff on site. ||There was no lift though so you will need to carry cases upstairs if you do not have a ground floor room. A minor inconvenience for us but may be a dealbreaker for anyone with accessibility requirements.||Was one of the cheapest hotels we found for our visit and appeared to be much better value than others with lower star or TripAdvisor ratings. We actually changed our hotel prior to our visit to this one on the back of some negative reviews on our original booked hotel.||Essentially a self-service Travelodge would be the...
