After a few walking up and down Lincoln and the tourist traps restaurants, we decided to walk to over Pane e Vino, and what an absolute delight it turned out to be! From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in an atmosphere that felt like a warm embrace – cozy, full of character, and wonderfully reminiscent of being in Nonna's own home, without a hint of pretension.
Our evening was made truly special by our server, Mirko. He was, simply put, a gem. Mirko was the epitome of attentive service: kind, incredibly helpful, and always there when needed without ever being overbearing. His humor was a welcome touch, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable vibe without ever being a bother. Thank you, Mirko!
We started with the Burratina, and it was nothing short of delicious. The burrata itself was creamy and fresh, perfectly complemented by the vibrant, fresh arugula. The portion was ideal for sharing, setting a high bar for the courses to come. We also appreciated the simple yet elegant touch of fresh bread served with quality olive oil and balsamic – a classic done right.
The culinary journey continued with the Tonnarelli alla Ruota, which was a true highlight of the evening. Mirko transformed the preparation into an art form, finishing the pasta tableside right in a giant Parmesan wheel. It was a wonderful show and presentation, and the pasta itself was cooked to a perfect al dente. We were consistently impressed by the freshness of all the pastas, and the portions were just right – generous without being overwhelming. During our meal, we even had the pleasure of watching a woman skillfully prepare fresh green Tartufati, a testament to their commitment to authentic, homemade quality.
My husband, a self-proclaimed carnivore, was utterly captivated by his Cannelloni della Nonna. Every single bite was delicious and deeply satisfying. He genuinely didn't miss meat with this dish, a true testament to its flavorful and complex taste. The Chianti we chose was a generous pour and proved to be the perfect, robust compliment to our dinner.
Dessert brought more tableside magic! The Tiramisu was perhaps the most fun to watch being prepared. Again, Mirko brought his magic with the help of a large Bialetti. It was utterly delicious at the time – incredibly light yet wonderfully creamy mascarpone – and miraculously, it tasted even more wonderful the next day after the flavors had a chance to meld in the fridge. The Cannolo Siciliano offered a perfect symphony of textures between its rich filling and crisp shell, also holding up beautifully until the next day.
Even the restrooms at Pane e Vino were a delightful surprise, full of character and intriguing details to explore.
Pane e Vino was more than just a meal; it was an experience. It was well worth the walk, and we left feeling completely nourished, both in body and spirit. Highly,...
Read moreI was in Miami in 2014 when Angelo and Athena Quaglini opened Pane e Vino but I never visited because I thought it might be a tourist trap due to its location on the very busy Española Way in Miami Beach which is crowded with very average Italian restaurants. Not going here then was my mistake and I was lucky enough to score a reservation last night for me and my pregnant and very hungry wife.
Diego was our waiter - he’s from Argentina and you know that he is from Argentina cause he will address your group as “chicos” and to my surprise he was the best and most professional server in Miami - a place known for lackluster service.
He made several recommendations and if we were hungrier we would have ordered them all because the menu and the specials sounded so good. The whimsy of avocado in pasta and other ingredients that uplift the pasta here from above average to outstanding are to be noted.
They also take advantage of the window pasta making machine to make their casero home made pasta on site. And there is a pecorino wheel as well for dishes that require that extra cheesiness. For example dessert they do a tiramisu table-side tiramisu which I have never seen done before. Very simple but very fresh ingredients and a necessity if you are lucky enough to score a table here.
Before I go on and on about this place let me remark about what is truly special here and that’s owner Athena. She has a personal touch and warmth that comes across along with her heavy Italian accent. You can tell that the decor and the details from the home-like bathrooms and the dim lighting the perfect volume and the wine wall and other touches that she cares very much about her customers. In fact she ran after us in the street to grab us when we arrived and told our reservation wasn’t for a while. She made my wife and I feel like we were the most important customers they’ve had in ten years and now that I’ve read many of the thousands of reviews I can see that she and her staff leave that impression on everyone.
So if you’re visiting Miami Beach and you want northern Italian food that will surprise you with its authenticity, freshness and love this is the place you should grab a...
