The restaurant’s location is across the beach and its a good place to hang out and appreciate the views. They also have good lighting setup in the evening.
However I observed few caveats during my dining experience. On a busy evening, the friendly staff can get a bit overwhelmed water refills and simple requests may take longer than you’d expect. If you’re particularly thirsty or in a hurry, be prepared to send a polite reminder. Also, the tables are small, in fact, that it can be challenging to fit all of your dishes at once without feeling cramped.
Pricing practices here warrant extra scrutiny. The restaurant automatically adds a 20% gratuity to every bill, which can feel hefty, especially when service is uneven. What’s more, if you pay by credit card you’ll be prompted to add yet another tip percentage, risking an unintended double-charge if you don’t catch it. I recommend reviewing your itemized bill carefully before you leave, otherwise you may end up tipping far more than you intended.
Cocktails are another mixed bag. I tried the classic margarita, but was disappointed to find it more soda than spirit, light, and nearly devoid of tequila. At $20 price range, I expected a more robust taste or at least a more interesting twist on the traditional recipe.
And yet, despite these frustrations, the food itself is really good. The birria quesadillas have tender meat, and the molcajete platter filled with a colorful medley of grilled chorizo, steak, and carnitas is rich, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. Each bite delivers authentic Mexican-seasoned flavors that remind you why you came in the first place.
In summary, this spot is a study in contrasts. The view and the cuisine are certainly worth experiencing especially if you arrive with an appetite and the patience to navigate a busy service staff. Just be sure to double-check your bill before you pay, and perhaps stick to the stronger drinks list if you’re a cocktail aficionado. With those caveats in mind, you’ll find that this seaside restaurant has plenty to recommend it so long as you’re prepared for a few rough edges...
Read moreI have eaten all over the world. I love people and I love a great food. Occasionally there is a place that surprises me and it is always because the people that work in that place care about those they are serving. Oh! Mexico is such a place. There are many restaurants in Miami Beach and South Beach and we all have experienced the ones where the service is, "Oh, another tourist. Whatever!" Oh! Mexico, is so different and it is because of the staff and two stand out. First and most importantly is Agostina. Her smile starts your evening by lighting up the world around you. When she knew I was learning Spanish she immediately spoke Spanish with me and helped me when I was unsure. Did I mention her smile? It is truly heaven because it starts in her heart. I only have a son, but if I had a daughter I would want her to show her what wonderful is and to touch the world with her light. She suggested shrimp when I was going to have salmon. The shrimp is exquisite! Then my girlfriend asked for some type of salsa that was a bit spicy. Agostina brought four and explained them to us. The one most spicy was so delicious I could not stop. There are only three red wines here, but don't be fooled. The Malbec is fantastic and I know my red wines. Whenever we needed something Agostina appeared right on time. She engaged with us and made us feel as if we were not just another customer. We felt special. There was also a waiter who I watched help a blind man on the street. The waiter went into his pockets and I watched as he counted out bills to give the man and then he gave them to him. Because I make more than a waiter, I went to the waiter and asked him to give some money to the man. In one night, two service people made my evening wonderful. I have five more days in Miami and I will try other restaurants. I will return to Oh Mexico because of Agostina and one young man who cared for another. Did I mention the food is world class. If you eat seafood, take Agostina's recommendation and get the shrimp (camarones)! They are some of the best I have ever had. Thank you Oh! Mexico, you made our...
Read moreAVOID this place at all costs! THEY SERVE YOU FOOD OTHER TABLES LEFT BEHIND! Extremely disappointed. My father is Mexican and while on vacation wanted a taste of home so we decided to come here. We ordered our food (which was extremely pricey but seemingly normal for the area) and it came fresh out the kitchen. The food in it of itself was okay, nothing to write home about. However, after our meal we decided we wanted some churros and after a long wait our waiter came from a table outside and had the churros in hand. It seemed weird he had them in his hand and came inside from having been outside with them as their kitchen is inside. He set them down on the table and quickly went to speak to whisper in his manager's ear while looking at us and after finishing up with him let us know that the manager, out of the generosity of his heart, was going to give us these churros for free. We thought wow, what a nice gesture and began to eat the churros. Suddenly I saw a churro that looked pre dipped in the sauce and bitten, I asked my family if they ate it to which they responded no. They served us churros another table LEFT BEHIND. Absolutely horrendous action from the server and the manager, extremely disgusting. Prior to getting these churros we were already spending money at this establishment, and we ORDERED the churros, we did not ask for anything free! Attached are the photos so you can see how it looked when it came and then the pre bitten one. When I confronted the waiter he said he was not sure how it came out of the kitchen that way. Come on. AVOID...
