La Mulata We were visiting Miami Beach, FL and had decided where to go eat supper. We wanted to try Cuban Cuisine while we were here. We were walking there and were a block away when I noticed we were beside another Cuban Restaurant, La Mulata. The appearance of the restaurant made you feel you had stepped into a Cuban city. Ernesto was absolutely amazing! He knew the menu and made some wonderful recommendations. For appetizers, we had Homemade Empanadas Cubanas. They were so good. The sauce that was with it was delicious. I ordered Enchilado de Mariscos from the Seafood Menu. The lobster was a little chewy, but still tasted great. The shrimp were out of this world!!! QUICK NOTE- I HATE peeling the tails off my shrimp, BUT some of these shrimp were whole!!! It was actually fun taking these apart! The muscles were tender. The plantains were so good. I definitely made the right choice! My wife ordered Ropa Vieja Grandma Style. To say it was great is an understatement!! The blend of flavors was mesmerizing. When you ask to have a bite from your spouse’s plate, be careful because EACH BITE IS DIFFERENT. The blend stays the same, but there is so much going on in these dishes, that one bite is not enough. My son ordered chicken fingers and they were exactly what you would expect… chicken fingers. My daughter ordered the Baby Churrasco. What came out was NOT what I expected. The display was what I would expect an adult to get. The care that was taken for the presentation alone was beautiful. The steak tasted remarkable and I was jealous until my food arrived. NOTE- We asked for the kids’ food to come out first. We finished with the BEST Tres Leches I have ever tasted. My wife, the coffee lover, had a Cuban Coffee and LOVED IT! Ernesto was so pleasant and welcoming. We had never been in a Cuban restaurant and he was VERY patient with all of our questions. We felt like we were in his home and he was a gracious host. He helped my children with their Spanish and was very entertaining. Ernesto will be our favorite part of this dining...

Our server, Gabriel, was nothing short of phenomenal. He handled our lively group with the grace of a maestro, ensuring every detail was perfect. His infectious smile and genuine enthusiasm made us feel like family. Gabriel’s knowledge of the menu was impeccable—his recommendations were spot-on, each dish bursting with authentic, bold flavors that left us raving. He navigated our group’s dietary preferences with ease, offering thoughtful suggestions and ensuring everyone’s needs were met without a hitch.
The food itself was a love letter to Latin cuisine. The food was fresh, zesty, rich and soul-warming. Portions were generous, and every plate was presented with care, making the meal as visually stunning as it was delicious. The cocktails, especially the mojitos, were expertly crafted, adding a refreshing zing to the evening.
Gabriel’s service elevated the night to another level. Despite our large party, he was attentive without hovering, refilling drinks and checking in with perfect timing. His ability to balance professionalism with warmth made the evening feel effortless and joyful.

Gabriel’s exceptional care turned our group dinner into a memory we’ll cherish, and we’re already planning our next visit. Five stars aren’t enough—this place is a culinary treasure, and Gabriel is its...
Read moreWe were party of 8, came here because of the good reviews, and wanted to try authentic Cuban cuisine. We were from out of town and eager to try local foods. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the paella was good (however no octopus, squid as advertised) but was on the salty side; the avocado salad was just greens with some slices of avocado, some tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, and dressed in oil, salt, pepper. Nothing fancy. Portions were small for the price. Churassco steak was very salty. However the experience went sour when the wrong dish came out (waiter's confusion as he persuaded us to get the more expensive seafood lobster (enchilado de mariscos) over the carribean garlic shrimp, but he probably put through the wrong dish to kitchen. The shrimp dish came out. Waiter came back telling us lobster is out. So we rejected the shrimp dish because we never wanted it in the first place. (Why wouldnt he let us know, and ask if we wanted the shrimp instead, before bringing out the shrimp dish).Waiter then waiter got upset since we rejected the shrimp dish, as he kept shaking his head in disbelief while brisking away. Owner later asks us again she could make lobster stew(?) At checkout, not only did he fail to take out the shrimp dish charge, but also tried to get me to tip him more: the automatic 20% service charge was added to the bill, and his response when I asked him if gratuity was automatically added on, was that I could add tip on the line on the bottom of receipt. What a disappointment. Really didn't walk out happy with the amount of money spent there. Not to mention $40 was tacked onto the bill because he kept filling our cups endlessly with 4 bottles of still water (the only choice offered was still or sparkling, no...
