I had been looking for velvet fabric for an upcoming church fundraiser. Because I live at least 35 miles away, I decided to text the shop to see if they had any. I received a message that they DID have some, but after seeing the photo, I found that it wasn't what I was looking for. A couple of days later, I got a text saying that some velvet had come in. I called to inquire, and I was told that there were three different colors. When I asked about price, I was told $2 per yard. I told the owner I would be there the next day. She said it wasn't ready to put out yet, so the chances were good that I could see it. I drove at least an hour to get there. When I saw the fabric, it wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I figured for $2 per yard, I could use it for something. I left it at the counter and picked up a few more things. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the three pieces would be $30! I didn't have a lot of money with me, so I picked the piece that looked the biggest. For that piece, I was charged $10.
Imagine my surprise when I got home and found there was barely over five FEET of material. So, instead of $2 per YARD, it ended up being $2 per FOOT! That's quite a difference. I could have gone to Hobby Lobby for $7 a yard...
VERY disappointed and disgusted with this place.
Well....her it is...a few weeks later. I had a nice conversation with Kate, one of the owners. She was VERY apologetic and sorry that I had an incident with their place of business. She offered me some restitution, but since it is a brand new small business, I didn't want anything. The fact that they're going to discuss what happened is ok for me. As for my next visit, it's going to be a while, since it's about an hour away, and I don't need...
Read moreI'm a big fan of trying to be eco friendly, particularly with shopping second hand. I scored my sectional couch off FB Marketplace for a great deal during the pandemic, but my favorite cushion has been developing some tears from constant use. I previously did visible mending to fix them, but when the most recent tears happened, I didn't have the patience to properly whip stitch the fraying edges, especially knowing it would just develop a tear in another spot. Thankfully Revive has an incredible stock of fabric, and somehow had the perfect material for me to do this large patch.
If you don't know, Revive is a creative reuse store; think a thrift store for craft supplies. So their entire stock is donated gently used (but mostly brand new!) craft supplies of nearly every variety! There's even an entire chest of scrap fabric, perfect for quilting or those odd little mends. Heck, I even scored an awesome working iron! Definitely beats my tiny travel one I've been using.
Highly recommend checking them out, they also do community focused...
Read moreI love thrifting, and I love crafting, so Revive is an absolute delight. I can go in and reliably find essential "basics," like if I'm looking for a specific color of ribbon, or a certain sized brush, or want some random seasonal accents... but then you also get the "thrill of the hunt" of finding some real unexpected gems if you take the time to explore the shelves!
I needed some green ribbon and Fall florals to spruce up this ren-faire corset. I forgot that I ALSO needed a magnetic pin cushion, until I was looking right at it. And I absolutely did NOT need this adorable, never-used notebook with a cover you can cross-stitch yourself. But did I walk away with all of it at a stupid-good price? SURE DID.
Again, go in with a thrifter's sense of adventure. Be open to whatever you find, flexible and creative with what you need, and support a great local business keeping this stuff out of landfills and rehoming it in craft rooms and...
