Updated review: I reached out to customer service about this experience, particularly about our room being downgraded without letting us know. The manager, Mr. Railef, emailed me and we set up a time to discuss the issues. He was very apologetic and after listening to my concerns he told me what his plans were to address them to make the experience better for other customers. We also discussed appropriate compensation for our experience and I feel that he went above and beyond to make sure we walked away with a satisfactory resolution. Based on the customer service provided to address our complaint I would give the hotel another chance. Customer service goes a long way for me, especially these days when many businesses don't care about you once they get your money.
Pros: beautiful, historic art deco building and decor; bed not terrible; pillows nice; Very hot water; good quality complimentary toiletries, close to everything
Cons: -Front desk staff do not answer the phones - I called twice on Friday the 19th and once on the morning of the 20th and the front desk never answered. -The parking garage that they recommend on their website is absolute garbage - avoid at all costs - park at the Target center parking ramp and Uber/Lyft to the hotel (or just walk- it's about a 10-15 minute walk) -Front desk woefully understaffed on Saturday and Sunday-only one clerk working both days creating a long line which crowded the narrow corridor in front of the desk by the elevators -Extremely strong perfume smell in lobby (not from a guest, it was there when we checked in at 3, when we left for dinner at 5pm, and when we arrived back at 8pm) -Smell of sulfur/rotten hardboiled eggs in room- seemed to be coming from vents but it was all over the room so unsure of source -Terrible room service- We ordered burgers from room service for $16 dollars a burger and I don't necessarily mind that they were the most basic burgers ever but they did not bring any condiments, napkins, or plastic flatware with meal- it was just a basic burger with fries thrown into a box -They overcharged us for room service. The room service receipt amount is lower than what they put for room service on our checkout invoice -The bar makes very weak drinks- I have maybe 2 drinks per month so I'm sensitive to alcohol and the drinks were like there was no alcohol in them at all -The cabinet/closet in the room was broken so that the light inside could not be shut off- which is great if you need a nightlight but very annoyiny if you want to sleep in the dark -They put us in a different style of room than what I booked- we booked a premier king room, which in the description says that the living area is separated from the bedroom by a privacy wall but we were put in a deluxe king and I guess they just hoped we wouldn't notice.
Overall, this was a very disappointing stay, especially given all the high reviews...
Read morethe clerks at the front desk were a different story. It was very hard to understand one of them because of the extremely strong accent, I had lots of trouble trying to understand the person that I had to ask the same questions multiple times. I also was told by that same person that breakfast was free and that it was between 7-9 am when I went to get breakfast they didn't make it clear that it wasn't free at all until I started ordering my food. I ordered a chia pudding parfait and they didn't have it so they charged full price for just simple yogurt w the oats and fruit... I would have rather gone to McDonald's and got the same thing if I would've known it was gonna be like that and it being 9$ for garbage yogurt. I also ordered the salmon cream cheese bagel it was so bland as well.. very disappointing especially when they advertise "chef made" it was a plain bagel smothered w basic unseasoned cream cheese and some raw slices of salmon w tiny bits of cucumber.. where is the flavor? I had extremely high expectations and was definitely disappointed. They also had a sausage quesadilla and it was 13$ and literally Taco Bell would've done better than the so called chef they have... it was a terrible and bland quesadilla w some frozen sausage only thing worth maybe the price was the French toast everything else was a disappointment and was nasty and no flavor please fire your chef. It should Also be made clear to people that the breakfast ISNT FREE and that you have to pay as you go, frustrated because someone told me differently. I also didn't receive my complete deposit. Valet was 55$ and my breakfast was 73$ in total was 125-130$ spent and when I was refunded my deposit I didn't receive the entire thing back because it took 200$ just to hold it just to only give back 50$ but it should've been more. The room looked okay when you got inside but if you look closely at things you'll see there are stains on the floor and the trash receptacle still had a spill inside dried up on it and I seen little Knicks on the corners of things.. they did a basic clean up but if you look closer you'll see the dirty. The blondette bar was also a very sad view to see compared to the photos you see online. It looks bigger in the photos than when you see it in person. I probably will not be coming back if I have to pay for luxury and get mediocrity I'd rather not spend my money and you won't be seeing me again I'd rather take my business to the hotel foshay because they are luxury and can get everything right unlike this wannabe luxury hotel. I'll be telling all my friends and family about how much of a scam this fake luxury hotel is. Thanks ! For ther terrible experience. Ps I also paid 300$ in total for this type of...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. The manager, Nabil, is incredibly rude and it’s shocking that he was hired by a Marriott Bonvoy labeled hotel in a managerial role. The policy clearly states that we were able to cancel our reservation for no fee until noon 5/17. We checked out in person at 10:30 AM 5/17. Nabil insisted the room is non refundable even though we had the policy stating no fee cancellation before the time we were cancelling in front of us. Nabil turned my husband away saying “he didn’t have time for this and has guests to deal with.” I am confused why my husband having been a guest at the time, was not considered one. I called Nabil again this evening to confirm the room was cancelled and to send my confirmation so I can file a dispute with my credit card. Nabil refused to give me his last name when I asked; and I asked to stay on the phone so I could confirm receipt of the cancellation via email. He then told me the same thing that he “doesn’t have time for this, he has guests,” and hung up the phone. He said he had “spent hours on this” when my husband was there for no more than 10 minutes and my call was a total of 8 minutes (which more than half of it was speaking to a female front desk staff and not Nabil the manager.)
I am shocked that Marriott Bonvoy allows this hotel to be considered under their umbrella. We have been very loyal Marriott customers, and have never been so mistreated by Marriott employees.
Beyond the staff issues, our card didn’t work to open the exterior door in the pouring rain/freezing wind and had to bang on the door to be let in. Both exterior doors were locked. Then we couldn’t get back into the parking ramp connected to the hotel either, the door was locked that attached the hotel to ramp and had to walk around the exterior to find another way in. Very inconvenient and poorly managed - no surprise, “Nabil” is an incredibly incompetent human.
**this platform doesn’t appear to allow for photos. I would gladly post the screenshots I have displaying the cancellation policy in question and my call history showing my 8 minute phone which Nabil considered to be “hours of time...
