I cannot say enough good things about Old Monterey Inn. We booked it for three nights for our babymoon and purchased the babymoon package. Everything exceeded our expectations. The inn was so homey and cozy. We stayed in the Ashford suite, which was more spacious than I could have imagined. It was like a two bedroom one bathroom apartment and had a ton of closet and bathroom storage space. Keep in mind the bathroom doors don't latch shut, they just sort of sit shut. Wendy was beyond accommodating of all of our needs including my gluten allergy. The evening happy hour was something we took advantage of every night and absolutely loved. There usually weren't many people there, but it was nice even when it was just us enjoying the wine and snacks together. The babymoon package was so worth it. Spoilers ahead regarding it.
-The welcome snack basket was actually a beautiful, generously portioned plate of cheeses and fruits. They supplied gluten free crackers as well. -The restaurant voucher made for a wonderful and stress free night out. It was an $80 voucher so be prepared to pay for some of your meal. I'm glad I inquired about this in advance. -The sunset picnic was above and beyond. They stocked the picnic basket with everything you can think of and, again, accommodated my gluten allergy. It came with a bamboo mat and blanket to sit on as well. -Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning and they even accommodated the fact that we wanted it a bit earlier (it is typically served between 9:00-9:30). Keep in mind that it is a fixed meal each day, not a menu of choices. Everything was delicious, but my husband is a bit picky so that was tough for him. -The flowers and welcome gift were super nice touches.
Overall this was absolutely the most special weekend I could have imagined for our babymoon. Thanks, Wendy,...
Read moreFriends surprised me at our hotel room for my birthday and did such a beautiful job decorating and arranged 4 vases of flowers too. They said Wendy, the innkeeper, who reminds me of Lorelei Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, since she has been there 30 years and is so casually professional and personal, was very helpful and responsive via communication to coordinate the set up, and gave them whatever needed to make the magic happen. We loved how comfortable and clean our room was, coming back from our day trips the room was freshly cleaned and everything back to new. Fantastic pillows, and lots of storage, multiple suitcase holders, great shower amenities and herbal soaps. Many hooks for towels (good towels), vanity mirror, & even a small desk where I sat and curled my hair. We loved our baths and the wine hour had a delicious variety of nibbles and good quality wines. We love character and this inn has it. From the small tiles, original windows, faux finished wall art, and land to roam around. We even had a breakfast picnic and they gave us whatever we needed to do that. The staff is also never really seen, but in contact, so it feels very private. My only comment to the owner is to make sure there’s a first aid kit somewhere accessible 24/7 for small emergencies and cuts requiring band-aids. Also we never heard our neighbors other than in the hall, so I’d say it’s got good sound privacy overall. For the price you cannot beat the quality. You’ll want to stay a week (and you can, because of how much storage there is in the room) We stayed in the Mayfield Suite. It was a perfect place to celebrate my 40th birthday, thanks for all your help Wendy! We...
Read moreThis place was pretty magical.
The grounds are beautiful - full of plants and flowers, plenty of places to walk and sit, lit up with twinkling lights that come on at twilight, making the place look like something out of a fairy tale.
The check in process was easy, with welcoming staff presenting you with local wine and hors d'oeuvres, along with a tour of the property. They are also more than happy to make recommendations regarding local restaurants and activities, helping you make the most of your stay in Monterey.
We stayed in the Chawton room. It was relatively small, but with all the requisite comforts - jacuzzi bath tub, queen size bed, private entry from the garden, and decorated with antique style furnishings, which fit the mood of the place quite nicely. The room also had an extra blanket, in case we wished to enjoy the evening out on the grounds, instead of our room - very thoughtful. The only complaints we had was that the mattress was a little rickety, and the walls were a little thin - we could hear someone above us snoring.
At 7:30 AM, we found a basket with coffee, hot chocolate, and biscotti awaiting us - nice way to start the morning. Breakfast was served in a beautiful antique style dining room, adorned with the original dining table from 1929. The food was lovely, the staff was very kind, and the other guests were all very pleasant.
Upon checkout, we were given a little parting gift of bottled water and snacks for the road - also lovely.
Overall, our experience was very pleasant, and we will...
