"Buddy, go and sit in the corner and eat" by the owner.
Me and my son were staying in Monterey for the weekend, to get his Scuba diving Certification. After his first day session he were too tired and said we can have a take out and eat at the hotel. this restaurant was on top of Thai list and we called in for and order to go ( $92). Later we arrived at the restaurant to pick the order. I saw the restaurant had good ambience and asked if we could eat in the restaurant. the above statement was from the server/owner as he referred to my son who has picked up the packed food. I paid for the food with tip and politely said that it would not be proper to eat from boxes in the restaurant and left.
I was reminded of pictures in front of London restaurants during British Raj. "Dogas and Indians are not welcome".
Addendum after the comments from the Restaurant: (Important Details) Few facts: The food was already to go when me and my son walked into the restaurant. No plates or utensils were provided, So my son walked back in to request for those. The conversation happened when I was there to pick up the food along with my son and not when my sont wen in alone to request utensils.
My comments are based on what i felt, and based on the dialogue delivery that happened. Feeling really disgusted I did call back once we reached our motel, to ask why we were asked to eat in the corner, the person on the phone, from the voice the same person I talked to, had less than 4 seconds to respond no "I meant your son to sit at table #1 near the window, ok?" and disconnected the line. Is that how one would behave if one had no intention of disparaging?
Even now there is no sense of guilt or apology. And in Hospitality industry. Continuation of the same tone as the other interactions "I am right and infallible, if you are hurt that is...
Read moreMy wife and I went here on a whim at around 2pm on a Saturday because we were just passing by. We were really impressed with the friendly service, and the savory, scrumptious, and delectable dishes! We got a hot pot thom yum kai with chicken -- more than enough for two and perfect not-too-salty, not-too-citrusy broth with flavorful mushrooms. My wife had Pattaya Pineapple and it came out with an exquisite presentation on a half pineapple. I got the chili duck. Both were of the best quality we've ever had and we've been to 4 other area Thai places. We went back again a week later at 8pm on a Saturday evening and fortunately got a table (restaurant was about 80% full). The owner and manager, Sam, remembered us and was warm and welcoming. We tried the dumplings, another hot pot, and for entrees, the phad thai and spinach with scallops. Phad Thai hit the spot and was better than the other area Thai places'. The spinach and scallops in garlic and black bean sauce were both cooked to perfection -- simply sumptuous! The atmosphere makes you feel peaceful and at home, the decor is beautiful. People with good taste come here because the food is great and you get treated right -- and you might just end up chatting with people of like minds at the table next to you. You can stay as long as you like and chat it up. Sam puts his heart into the food and into pleasing his customers. Everything is done right here -- that's the reason there are a lot of...
Read moreverrrrrrrrrrry lovely verrrrrrrry lovely. i mean cmon. you know i love thai food already. you simply cannot beat that pad se ew-green curry combo. like she is elite by global standards. so of course i'm craving thai on a two-night trip to monterey with my "friend" and stumble on this lovely little joint. and it hit the spot. ended up opting for the pineapple fried rice that was supposed to come in a pineapple but we didn't get a pineapple (okay rude was it something i said) but it was SO okay because this pineapple fried rice was doing it. she was puttin in the mf hours it was very well balanced in terms of sweet and salty and wasn't too oily either. i personally have no tolerance for spice (cough cough half white cough cough) and so i was pleased to hear that they offered a mild option on the green curry that didn't make me sweat my @ss off. i will say. this place was qui-et. as the late great sia once said in her hit christmas album "Everyday is Christmas", i could hear a pin drop. like i'm a loud talker and so is my "friend" so we were lowkey blowin up the joint with noise but every other couple seemed to enjoy the library-@ss aesthetic of the place. anyways i digress. 5-stars especially for a place that isn't posting the king and queen of thailand's portraits...
