I stayed here 6/9/23-6/11/23. When I spoke to the owner, months in advance and made the reservation over the phone, I was quoted a rate that was under $350 total for both nights, including taxes. When I checked in, I was charged $453. I assumed there was a $100 hold charge for incidentals, but they said they don't do hold charges. I explained that the total was not what I had been quoted when I made the reservation and they denied it, saying that their rates are always the same and they don't change and it's out of their control. I looked on their website and found that the next Saturday the same room I was staying in was $105 with taxes and fees. I don't know why they chose to take advantage of me and over charge me. Be sure to either book online or have them send you an email confirmation if you book over the phone. I learned a lesson to not be so trusting and go on faith believing what a hotel commits to over the phone. All rooms are supposed to include WiFi, it even says so on their street sign. After checking in, I tried to get online but was unable to do so. I took my laptop to reception and the employee tried repeatedly to get the wifi to work. He even went into my settings and started changing things. Nothing was working and I was going to be late for a dinner reservation so I gave up and left. The next morning I went to reception again and he tried many times again and I told him I was not comfortable with having my laptop settings changed and not to continue to mess with them. After about 20 minutes for him doing the same login info over and over unsuccessfully, I left. When I checked out, I informed the owner that the wifi had not worked for my whole stay and that I expected to be refunded a portion of the $453. The owner began to argue with me saying it's not his fault if the wifi didn't work and it's not guaranteed. I replied that it was promised to be a part of the room and is even on their street sign. Then he proceeded to blame my laptop. I replied that was not a valid argument and that I've never had an issue with wifi on my laptop. Finally, after several guests came in and out of reception, witnessing the unprofessional and verbally abusive treatment that I was experiencing, I was told that I would be refunded $25/day, equaling $50 for the wifi not working. They said they would need to run my credit card again so I gave it to them. I assumed they would refund the whole $453, then recharge me for $403. Instead I was given back my card and was told that they charged me an additional $50 but they would refund it. Excuse me??? I was shaking and in a state of shock by how I had been treated, and how it kept getting compounded, but realized there was nothing left to do than dispute it with my CC company, so I left. I have informed my CC company and we are disputing...
Read moreReview of the Arbor Inn in Monterey, Calif. (Beware)
The Inn seemed clean inside and out and our room was spacious (paid extra for larger room). The service (hotel clerk and hotel manger) was not only unfriendly, but hostile. This was the worst experience I ever had in all of my travels. Beware of erroneous extra charges!
We entered our room at this dog friendly advertised hotel about two weeks ago and indicated on our reservation confirmation that we are bringing our dog. We brought an extra dog which I was planning to inform them the next day. We left for dinner with our dogs in our hotel room and returned about 90 minutes later, only to discover that we were locked out of our room (it was late, around 11:30).
We inquired at the hotel office why we were locked out and this nasty female hotel clerk said that I never claimed on my reservation that I was bringing ANY dog. I told her I had proof of this paperwork in my room, but she would not let us in unless we paid a $200 fine on our credit card. Thus, she was holding our luggage and our two cute tiny dogs hostage, unless we paid this ridiculous and exorbitant fee. Talk about extortion! Then when I tried to reason with her, she threatened to call Animal Control and have my dogs impounded. So I was coerced into signing this charge in order to get back into our room. I was so upset, I could not sleep all night and had a 10 hour drive ahead of me the next day.
The next morning, I showed the Manager my proof. He also had the same nasty temperament as the hotel clerk so they are probably related somehow. I showed him my reservation proof of my claim that I am bringing a dog. He said it’s not there. I said, “Are you kidding me? It’s here in black in white.” He said it was not in black in white. (I realized that I am now dealing with a crook). He then retorted that I placed my dog claim in the wrong space, yet I could find no other place to state that I was bring a dog. I realized that both of these rude people were in on the take. He also refused to refund the extra $200 fine. I would never go back to this hotel, unless accompanied by the police to arrest them both for extortion. They will try to take advantage of you any way they...
Read moreI stayed here with my son for Monterey Car Week and like all the "cheap" motels, they jack their prices up for the event. I was prepared to pay a lot so it was ok. The room was in poor repair and smelled of mold. The shower water overflowed everywhere and the baseboards in the bathroom were rotten. There was so much nice at night from the room above us. The sheets seemed clean so that was good. I could have dealt with all that just fine but the main reason I will never return is because the people who run the place are terrible and especially the woman at the front desk. I booked this place almost a year in advance. I was called twice about a month before my arrival, during a workday and couldn't pick up, and received a vm and email telling me that if I didn't call them back in 30 min that they would cancel my reservation. One time the issue was just getting a verbal confirmation that I was still planning to arrive and the other time was because they wanted a different credit card. Both were very aggravating phone calls and the lady on the phone threatened to cancel my reservation multiple times when I expressed my dismay. Upon arrival, the same lady checked me in and gaslighted me about me requesting an accessible room and her having some conversation with me about it. She went on and on. I told her we never had that phone call and that I do not need an accessible room. She told me she could prove we spoke by looking up her cell phone log. Lady is nutty. I finally just had to just let her blame me in the hopes that she would hand over my room card. ||Clearly, these cheap motels can make a lot of money last minute during car week. It seemed obvious they were trying to get me to cancel my reservation multiple times. Maybe I saved a couple hundred dollars by booking early, who knows. Just stay somewhere else...
