Thanksgiving I booked my best friend at the Red Roof Inn Mt Laurel over Thanksgiving weekend. I used to stay there years ago and even had my aged parents stay there when visiting family. It was always inexpensive, but clean, and well kept. ||This is the horror he went through:||First, the lobby smelled like marijuana checking in. I asked for a quiet room, so I was put on the first floor up front. ||When I walked in, I was greeted by a mirror barely hanging on the wall. I went to straighten it and it fell off the wall. ||The lampshade, air conditioning unit, desk, and safe were covered in dirt and stains. The sheet had cigarette burn holes in it. The electrical outlet near the sink did not work. The toilet was not securely bolted to the floor, and there were multiple dead bugs in the lamp fixtures. ||The whole place was disgusting. All night, cars were pulling in and out, people outside talking about being homeless, the room next to me had a screaming kid and barking dog. ||I went up to ask the guy at the desk if I could get a new room, but he couldn’t be bothered. I woke up in the morning to take a shower and as I stepped out after finishing, the electricity went out for about twenty minutes. Thanksgiving weekend I stayed at the Red Roof Inn Mt Laurel. Perfect, Or at least, I thought. ||I got to the room, after walking through a cloud of marijuana smoke and watching a homeless man go through a garbage can. |The room was much bigger, but it reeked of cigarettes. I turned on the fan to use as white noise to drown out the sound of slamming doors and other outside sounds. I managed to get some sleep, a shower, and get the heck out of there. ||I read a number of reviews of this Red Roof location after the fact, and they were similar to my experience. And all got the standard “We’re sorry to hear your stay wasn’t…” response, which is just bullcrap optics. The whole time I stayed at this location, all I felt was ick and a sense of unease. |Never again will I stay at a Red Roof.||I went up to the front desk and told the young woman my experience so far and I asked if I could be moved to another room. Read moreIf I was able to hit 0 stars I would… The employees act like they came straight out of the hood. You could clearly smell marijuana on the employees but let’s backtrack a little bit first… When we first arrived, the first thing we heard and saw was a guest with a bleeding head wound saying he hadn’t received the towels he requested for his room in over 8 hours. In hindsight, maybe we should have taken that as a sign. Ok, next… we got to our room and there were 3 flat pillows for both my boyfriend and I, and the both of us normally sleep on 2 pillows each. My boyfriend went to the front desk to request another pillow at about 3:00pm, then we both left the hotel and went out for about 3-4 hours. When we got back, there were still only 3 pillows in the room. So my boyfriend again went to the front desk and this time insisted they hand the pillow to him which they finally did… 15 minutes later. Next, during the course of the night it sounded like we were in the middle of a zoo, lots of shouting and noise outside. But, we ignored it and just watched tv in our room trying to relax. We went to sleep around midnight. Next… at 4:00 am we were both awakened by an extremely loud and intrusive alarm that was deafening. We tried to wait it out, but after about 10 minutes it was still going off with the same volume and frequency. My boyfriend and I both quickly got dressed and walked down to the front office to find out what was going on. There were already most of the guests out of their room smoking and doing other things at 4:00 am, as well as having their dogs outside with them on their leashes just to paint you a picture. We got to the office and found out that the alarm was a fire alarm because one of the guests along with the employees were making drugs in their room… Finally, 20 mins later 2 fire trucks arrived to shut off the alarm and you could tell on the firemen’s faces that they had been there for this purpose previously. Find out the next morning, this had occurred at least 3 other times. I’m confused how they allow the employees to do drugs with their guests/friends and still be gainfully employed. We checked out this morning, asked for a refund, they said the manager (whose name is Janet Jackson LOL) is the only person that can authorize that BUT she’s unreachable until Monday morning while it is Saturday now. They refused to call her to rectify the situation. We ended up going back and forth for about 10 minutes with the desk clerk and the housekeeping manager. We ended up receiving a partial refund which was not nearly enough but me and my boyfriend were mentally finished. In conclusion, DO NOT go to this hotel under any...
Read moreStarting with pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and truly trying their best. I had only positive interactions with front desk, housekeeping, etc.
Concerns: I’ll preface this by saying I did not expect luxury and I’ve stayed in many Red Roof Inns and have always appreciated they are affordable, pet friendly, and clean and safe for a quick stopover on long drives. I also really hate leaving negative reviews and don’t do it often, but I have such significant concerns I really hope something is changed with enough reviews sharing details.
This was unfortunately the worst Red Roof Inn and worst hotel period I have stayed in. My two biggest concerns are safety and health/hygiene/cleanliness. Too tired to drive further, I stopped here at 1am on a Sunday night and there were at least a dozen people on the balconies and walking around yelling, drinking, and smoking. The smell was overwhelming. I had booked a Superior King on the app for the fridge but when I arrived they only had Standard King, so I went to get ice and there was someone who seemed to be sleeping in the hallway so I went back to my room instead. There were knocks on the door next to me at 3am and yelling. As a woman traveling solo, I would not have stayed if I didn’t have my dog with me. Thankfully the deadbolt and security latch did work.
As for health/cleanliness: -The carpet and floor had not been swept in seemingly quite some time and the floor was sticky -Stains and graffiti on the furniture -The overhead light was broken and held up with a twisted wire hanger -The lamp was only a metal post and was missing the top and all lightbulbs -Floorboards were pulled away from the wall and seemed easy access for insects, etc. (though I will say thankfully I saw no insects/bugs other than flies in the room). -Hole in bathroom door and clock physically broken -Shower had only mild mildew/staining but given the rest of the room I didn’t feel comfortable showering there -Sheets had holes and thankfully I bring extra sheets and blankets for my dog, so I only slept on my own sheets/pillowcase and bagged them after to sanitize just in case -Significant trash outside the unit and around the property, concerned about walking my dog on broken glass so drove pet to another area for a walk / bathroom break
All in all, while the staff were incredibly friendly and doing their best, this hotel is nothing like any other Red Roof Inn I’ve stayed in, was not clean or safe, and I would strongly advise the owners do significant renovation. See...
